Sounds like a good time. Is there going to be a stick seminar there afterwards?

With the exception of KSN Doug, I'm sure there are a lot of newer KSW practioners here who aren't aware of the political battles years ago when the art was just forming. It even reached up into Canada. But just as Doug said, most all arts seem to go thru it. Mine did recently.

Master Alex was running the show, eh? He's one guy I've never seen in person. He's pretty amazing from what I've heard. I'd have to bow out if Sims led the class. I can't handle 10 minute horse stances. -
And the prize is leftover V-Day candy.

You might want to seek therapy if you have any more of those.

Geez, sounds like you got dumped.

Will any of you be able to take some pics to post on this site? Even better if you can get one of Master Harmon beating up on Doug. -
i want to learn hapkido!

Yes, Hapkido is a good martial art, but why wouldn't you want to take advantage of the arts already available where you are at now? You won't get any better weapons training anywhere else, and the striking and grappling is as good too. -

Why would you need to carry a gun if you knew MAs? It's that way of thinking that can make you a statistic.

Just look for the guy who is carrying a suitcase-sized box that has a big red cross and it reads First Aid. Seriously though, good luck Doug. -

If I remember correctly, my instructor met with KSN and several other instructors at some seminar years ago where he emphasized breathing technique/meditation over anything else. From then on our class practiced the 16 or 20 (?) positions of breathing/meditation on the floor after warm ups at least once a week. They were quite relaxing. -

I did have an MRI done on the knee once, but it just turned out being sublexation of the patella. Man, that really drove me nuts when we had to kneel on the floor. I'm surprised AFLAC never denied my injury claims. -

I had to change because there wasn't enough people participating for my instructor to keep teaching. But I inverted my ankle during a jumping spin exercise he had us try a few weeks before the club closed down. I've also sprained ribs and my shoulder twice, usually caused during falling techniques. My knees feel better than they ever have since I've been gone from KSW. I don't do as much exercise being in the Filipino arts now, but I feel a lot better the next day. -

At least I stayed with it. Unlike someone I know. May your Sam Adams give you bad gas. -

When I was in KSW, our two hour class usually went thru 20-30 mins of stretching and warm up exercises. Then we would proceed with all of our punches and kicks. After that it was on to forms. Techniques were usually last, unless PSBN decided to make us do falling techniques. I do say usually, because he might emphasize kicking one night with rebreakable boards or pads, and then might skip warm ups entirely the next time and go right into forms....forever. We didn't do a lot of sparring because he really wasn't a fan of the point system that's used, but he would get the gear out in the last half hour of class if we pestered him enough. -

Slacker. -
Sounds like someone who would carry a weapon no matter if the law said he can or not. But, who knows, he might be one to stop a violent act somewhere too. Ya never know.
-
PressureGuy, To answer your question, I only carry when traveling thru a big city. Generally you can't take a weapon into an establishment where booze is served or a certain amount of people will be, such as a concert or sporting event. Yes, it should be concealed. The details of my permit are printed on the back of my license. If you get caught without a permit, you will most likely go to jail with pricey fines. People who have their CCW permits are rarely involved in negligent acts of violence. I wouldn't consider myself paranoid for not relying on a police department to protect me.

Or a basketball game in Detroit.

Correct, but generally speaking....

Doug still has outstanding warrants for unpaid speeding tickets in three states in the North East part of this country. That's why he had to move. -
Kali, which is sometimes known as Escrima or Arnis, is a weapons-based Filipino MA. Sticks, and knives or daggers, are most common weapons used. Yes, there are low level kicks and some grappling incorporated depending what style you train in. Some styles will emphasize disarming the attacker, while another might trap or lock the attacker's weapon. Mine uses both.
