Do you specialize in a certain type of models or just planes and ships in general? I used to build scale models of WW1 fighter planes.

What woudl be better, sword or staff?
SaiFightsMS replied to BKJ1216's topic in Martial Arts Weapons
A lot too will depend upon which school you decide upon and what their policies are toward weapons training. Many schools have rank requirements that must be met before a student is permitted in weapons class. Then there may also be a curriculum that is followed - weapons are taken up in a certain order. -
Enough silliness for this thread. Any more will result in it's closure. This forum has members from many contries and english is definately not the first language for many of them. And proper respect must be observed towards all other members when posting.

Shotokan vs. Shudokan
SaiFightsMS replied to BKJ1216's topic in Choosing a Martial Art, Comparing Styles, and Cross-Training
Here is a link to the international Shudokan web site. http://www.wkf.org/shudokan.html It appears that they have similar roots in Okiniwa - Itosu. The difference being that Funakoshi then went to Japan and Kanken Toyama went to Taiwan where he also learned Chinese Chuan fa or Kwan bop. The name of the Shudokan style comes from the name Toyama gave to his dojo - Shu Do Kan meaning "The Hall for the Study of the Way" (in this case the karate-way). The name Shotokan came from the name of Funakoshi's dojo the hall of Shoto or pine. -

There are blind martial artists. It may take you longer to begin to master skills than your classmates but with persistence and patience from instructor and classmates it should be possible for you to learn a martial art. -

Have you looked at any of the local schools yet? You can often learn wether or not a style looks appealling to you by watching a class. Most reputable schools will allow you to watch a class or two, just make arrangements ahead of time.

A kata is not really yours until you start to see applications other than those you have been taught.

Wear a helmet or use foam ones at first if you are clumsy.

That is a lifelong process. My character will never be perfect. 'Course I still have to try. -

We were all white belts at one time. When I set my belt rack display up I deliberately put a white belt on top above all the colored kyu rank belts I had earned instead of my black belt. I find the more I learn about martial arts the more there is to learn. The first skills I learned get better yes, but there is also always room to improve. If you hit a day when you think that this is the best I will ever be that is the day to quit karate. -
Pizza before class isn't real great either.

Origins of Jiujitsu/jutsu

This could really be an interesting discussion. Those of us who do not practice a grappling art could learn a lot from this thread. So please remember to be respectful to each other and share your best information.
