  1. Many people hit a point where they realize the reason that they started training is not the reason the would like to continue. And that the style/art/gym they originally chose is no longer the right place for them to be.
  2. How about if they charge money guaranteeing a certain rank? I thnk that is what most posters mean. Pay x amount of money come to x number of classes and you will be a black belt. Notice the lack of passing the test and meeting the propper standards of performance?
  3. And remember there is not one set standard for camoflauge. It changes to best blend in with the local scenery of where the operation would be taking place. If a special colored uniform would best fit the situation that is used. If dressing as the locals do that is what is done. Through the history of different nations; be they asian, or european the dress of those performing stealth missions has always been to dress to blend in with the locals.
  4. The heian/pinan katas as well as the tekki/naihanchi katas can be traced back to Itosu. It is thought that the naihanchi kata was originally just one long kata and that Itosu broke it down into three katas to facilitate learning. They used to be the first katas that were taught to students. The heian/pinan katas are also traceable to Itosu. To facilitate teaching to younger students he introduced them. They are largely based on kanku dai. Jitte, jiin and jion may have originally been one kata or not. It is thought that they have a lineage going back to a Chinese temple. The Meikyo/Rohai katas are very old. Their origin has been lost to history. By Kouh-shang-kouh you mean either kusanku or kanku dai. It is known in different styles bye both names.
  5. From time to time there will crop up problems with a particular persons posting attitude. They are given multiple chances to clean up their act. Too many pi**ing matches and they will no longer be posting here.
  6. To be honest that type of an attitude from another female in class bugs the rest of the girls too. Regardless of what age we are.
  7. Welcome to the forum. Glad you stopped in here to introduce yourself. Sounds like you will have some interesting posts in your future and good input to the forum.
  8. I had to laugh a bit when I read that. Then I started to think a bit. For many females the idea of actually breaking something is a really foriegn concept. Much of the time it is mental barriers that hinder the physical act of accomplishing the break. Should they continue to train I bet the next time they have to break they will have better attitudes about it.
  9. Welcome to the forum.

  11. That is one of the things we try to maintain on this forum. Everyone here should be treated with respect. There are ways to disagree with someone without getting nasty or insulting about it. Those who insult other forum members or make insulting remarks about their art will be asked to clean up their act. If they find that they cannot do that they are asked to leave the forum.
  12. There are quite a few active teen aged posters on this forum. Which has always been one of the unique things about KarateForums. All age groups are respected. The only thing one needs to do to receive repect from fellow board members is to show the respect back to them.
  13. Is your goal to learn how to fight or to learn how to defend yourself?
  14. Don't worry give it time and it will begin to gradually shrink up.
  15. It sounds pretty interesting.
  16. Welcome to the forum.
  17. Can you tell us something about cuong nhu?
  18. Another thing that needs to be considered right now is SARS. There may be travel restrictions and health concerns. I don't want to be a wet blanket but that is a consideration right now.
  19. Don't use Cotton eye Joe either. I saw a form done to that once and it was just plain silly.
  20. There is a difference in sharing your accomplishments in the dojo with other martial artists than there is telling someone who has no idea what you are talking about. It gets to be kind of a commuinity thing. Many of us like to encourage each other. Part of that is encouraging new students. Part of that is helpig those who are discouraged keep going. And part of being part of the martial arts community is sharing in the accomplishment of others. Someone who is a couch potato has absolutely no idea of what it is like to give your all in a test situation. The nerves, the worries, the hours of training. We can appreciate the accomplishment of our brother and sister martial artists. Something our non participating peers can.
  21. I have a wavemaster. It is really a lot of fun to chase it across the room. Just spend time working on the basics at first. Just punch, block and kick.
  22. I guess it was natural for me to keep a martial arts training book. You see, I have been keeping a strenght training and aerobic log for years. Training books are really helpful to look back over and see what kind of results what you are doing is getting. And seeing what the results in changes in your workout bring.
  23. Is there a way you can take him to the side and practice a technique or help him with a kata and mention it then? You know there can also come a time after your a black belt when you have this nice fancy embroidered black belt. Your name on one end the name of the school on the other end. Real cool right? Wait until you have to tie it with your name on the right and the schools name on the left. Only problem is they are both in Japanese. So how do you get things on the right sides? Do you ask sensei before class or do you ask another black belt? Or maybe do you just put it on and hope you did it right?
