I wouldnt reccomend any of these things I think they are for like really really fat people, if you can run, you dont need this, and in my opinion, the more its advertised, the less it does, because if it was really good you wouldnt need to advertise it as much. Take coca cola, as an example. Noone needs to advertise it cause people know its good ;P Final word - Work hard for your 6 pack, and dont use any of these things that make you "loose weight", if anything, you should eat more to get more energy and muscle and be stronger and healthier overall. It will feel much better if when you get a 6 pack you know you worked hard for it and did it all by yourself.

Ok, I basically started with a 15 pound barbell, doing biceps. When I got more into it, I started doing squats with it. A bit after I started putting the weight in a backpack and doing pushups with it aswell as dips. I wanted to get into shoulders but 15 was too much, so I bought a 10 pound. As time passed, I got stronger. Yesterday, I bought a 25 pound barbell. Basically, this is what I do : (to get weights higher than 25 I put multiple weights into a backpack) Biceps - 25 pounds sets of 15-10-5 Squats - 15 pounds sets of 20-15-10 25 pounds sets of 15-10-5 35 pounds sets of 8-5-3 Dips - 25 pounds sets of 10-5-3 Shoulder Lift - Sets of 15-10-5 (15 pounder) Somehow, lately ive been having a bit of back problems (before i got the heavier weight). I think its when I work my biceps (I sit in a chair and lift with my back straight). Can anyone tell me any info about this? Why is it hurting? And am I going in the right path? Should I do more reps? Other exercises? BTW - Im looking mostly for strength here, not much endurance yet.

My turnout and the new beggining - Well basically I grew to 5'9 and dropped to 138, ran 5 miles 7 days a week, did karate and weight training everyday for a few hours and went to school. I knew 15 katas and won many competitions, i helped my sensei get his 6th dan and i was top pupil on my county. Then, long story short, my hips started hurting. 6 months later, they are still healing. Now i can do some soft exercise but i lost all my muscle and i forgot all the katas and i am starating to work out softly. Moral of the story - Dont let drive turn into obsession. On this whole post is basically all of my experiences i hope you can learn from them.

How can you be 4th dan brown belt?! That dosnt make sense....l

All of you guys with negative responses probably dont know what it is to be on his shoes. I KNOW WHAT IT IS LIKE! I went from yellow to orange belt, beating up green-black belts from other dojos and styles. As soon as I hit green belt myself, and started working on my technique, I became more aware of what I was doing and calmed down on the parts I didnt have control on. Now black belts that i could beat before can kick my * easly, but my katas are better than theirs! (Have gotten all 1st places on katas since ive been sucking at combat ) My advice is, get into the technique. You might get worst at fighting but you will be aware of every single thing. (I will be releasing an article on this, give me 2-3 more days)

You might want to look for a post on conditioning your shins, it wont make it as effective as wearing the guards, but ive been conditioning them lately and I know if i hadent been, last night would have been a sure broken bone after this white belt elbowed me in the shin as I was demostrating a kick (he was asked what he would do to defend it , and he just elbowed me right in the middle of the frickin shins with all his strength ) Anyways, just another thought.

What should you eat? Food.
-
Yeah, I agree, you should do knuckle pushups but not hit sand and brake skin ( do you know how much bacteria sand has?! ) Punching a bag to the extreme isnt very effective for knicle strengthening either. PS - To the gojuchad guy, you strengthen your CHINS?! Wtf?! no matter how strong your chin is one punch is all it takes buddy!
-
I think if the escape was jammed, I wouldnt punch through it, as it would be really stupid (no offence), I would probably front kick it, and if that dosnt work a few times, ill step back about 10 feet and run as fast as I can to drop my whole body weight on it. BAM! lol Anyways, on topic, unless you have samurais with wooden armours coming to your house to ask for protection money, and you have to punch through their armour and beat them up to send them away(like in the old days) I dont think its nessesary to do that, besides if you are a musician or something, itll slow down you finger dexterity.

Once I was on a tournament, wearing shin guards, but we couldnt kick to the knees though. Anyways, my opponent wasnt wearing any shin guards, so he lands a mawashi-geri right in my ribs, which hurt like a mofo, I thought he had cracked a rib for a second. Anyways, I got mad and I thought I would pay him back with another mawashi to the ribs, but as hard as I could. He throws a weak jab, so I move to the side, and as hard as I could, with all the rage boiling in my, aimed for the ribs, and BOOM! my foot bounced some 300 degrees back as soon as it hit him (because of the bouncy padding) and so my back was basically to him, so he oi-gerid me (bad move) on the spine. I was in bed for weeks. The moral of the story is, if you are going for power, and strength, dont wear them (padding makes kicks softer, however they might protect against elbows and knees) also, they can be bouncy at times. If you are going from light-medium-semi full contact, wear them, because if you arent looking to break someones rib or going all out on them, the shin guards can prevent a broken bone or an injury that wont let you walk for days. P.S - If you only kick to the head, you dont use your shins because you kick with your foot. The padding might slow the kick down, so you might wanna keep that in mind.

Why do you do pushups in sets of 10 and squats in 25s?! Ive found both as challanging if not squats to be even harder than pushups! Thats a first for me
-
I wouldnt reccomend adding weight since you are only 15. I dont even reccomend trying to buff up. From personal experience, I would tell you to actually stay OFF the machines. Pushups , situps , crunches , squats , jumping, and a cheap 2 dolland hand grip, all you need. Pushups - Biceps, triceps, lower back, chest, stomach, legs. Situps/Crunches - Lower/middle/higher abs. Squats - Legs(this is the master exercise), Hand grip - forearms, hands. Jumping - Overal calorie burn, good for losing weight, also helps your muscles between ankle and knee, gives you stronger ankles and feet. Thats how you target all major muscles with no need of machinery. Ive seen people who can bench 200 lbs but cant do 10 pushups. Ive seen people that squat 100lbs but cant jump for a straight minute. I however, do support light (10-30lbs) loose weights. Id reccomend running instead of using bike, but run with shoes on the beach, make sure your shoes are not worn out, as shoes can absorb shock. It dosnt matter how hard you train, itll take you about 2-3 months to start seeing the results you now desire.

Maybe im doing the pushups wrong or im overtraining? (Thanks ill try and check with my doctor or sensei anyways)

Maybe I should add that I, aside from all the things ive lifted jump for about 5 minutes after class(2-3 sets), for your leg muscles (the ones between knee and ankles, dont know the name), and also use a handgrip for a few sets(fore arm muscles.) I also use my 30 pound weight to do some shoulder exercises and ocassionally use the 30 punder to do squats with added resistence and a few situps with the 30 pound weight (around 25-50), I have been doing this for about 3 months and I still see a fair amount of fat, that is the reason im constantly incresing reps/sets, im now working on getting to 150 situps and 50+ pushups a day and tryng to reach 40-50 sqats now, also set a goal of 5 straight minutes nonstop jumping, as well as a goal of 50+ reps (in 2-3 sets) on my 30 pounder. Note that the reps/sets go up but never the weight, in my opinion, morea than 30 is unhealthy and can cause back problems. I HAVE seen alot of improvement since I started though! (a year ago I couldnt do one pushup, 5 situps or 5 squats!!!), I also used to weight 170 now im 149 and decresing!(muscle increasing [Hopefully ]) Keep up the great responses!

I can only do about 25-30 pushups in a row if I really push myself at the moment. I read tons of posts and decided that to be able to pass that number, I have to do more sets, so I set out to do sets of 10-15 till I reach 200 pushups (sets are streached over a whole day). By the end of the day, when im on my last say, 15-20 pushups, a little something (a nerve or something) next to my elbow starts going "clack" everytime I go down on a pushup, and it feels tickly. This happened to me a long time ago, so I decided to give it a rest for about a month. Today, I tried it again and I see the same results, the clacking sound when I go down. The next day, if I try to do pushups the clacking noise is still there, it takes a week or so to go away... How am I ever going to pass 30 pushups if this keeps happening?!(I cant do pushups with the clacking sound because it tickles and I fall)

Red J, you wouldnt belive it if I told you how much competition we got around here... im talking about us, teenagers of course. We got 15 year olds working out , benching 200lbs , other 16 year olds spending 4 hours daily at the dojo and a few 14 year olds going all out on heavy bags for hours... I cant really afford to stay behind as my sensei depends on me mostly to set a name for our dojo. So far, I have won many tournaments along with his son (13 year old black belt), and the dojo has a pretty good name. Ill try what you guys are saying, keep up the good replys!

After the 125 situps, the pushups, weights, squats and karate lessons, im never sore the next day, if you were to ask me, id say im not training hard enough.
-
Do you think that I should train in less amounts every day, or more amounts 3-4 days a week? By the way, this amount of reps has been reached over the course of time, I used to weight 170 and not able to do 1 pushup.

Here is my whole work out for the week. I want your opinions, that is, if it is too much for me or too little, or maybe just right. Keep in mind im 14 years old, weight 148 and have been doing martial arts for a little over a year. Monday/Wednesday/Friday/Saturday = Workout consists of 1 1/2 hours of karate, 125 situps, 25-40 squats (working on it), 40 pushups, and weight lifting a loose, 30 pound weight, 35 times on each arm. Tuesday/Thursday consists of the same thing except there is no karate and I usually push my self slightly harder. Thanks for reading my post!

I have 3 characters. A level 101, a level 70 pure, a level 57 and a level 122. You can tell in the old days i had no life, as you can see in my other posts. I have quit runescape since I started doing karate. I deeply regret all those years. Here is some advice for those of you who wanna try it - DONT. Youll become an adict and lose years of your life playing a stupid game.

Yes, now that Sasori has brought that up, I guess it depends mostly on the dojo, rather than the style. Personally, in my dojo, we learn every bunkai, application and self defence move derived from each defence, and we use attacks as done in bunkai, everything is fully explained. HOWEVER, I am pretty sure alot of shito ryu schools out there just do the katas because you have to, and dont really get into it.

My instructor told me to wash it with salt after I passed to my next belt (alredy passed a week ago). Now im half blue and half green, and I dont think this one is going to undye. Thanks for the responses!
