Its simply not possible under normal, everyday circumstances.

Is the miyagi in the karate kid movies supposed to be the founder of goju ryu?
-
Thanks for the responses. The highest person in my dojo is just a shodan ho, and he still has a year or so till his next belt, so I guess ill wait and see what he gets. Btw, on my style 1st kyu is brown belt with half black, and shodan ho is black belt. My teacher is a 4th dan and its a plain black belt with some japanese writings in both sides, and its very old so its starting to get white from the sides.

If katas werent important, then all these styles wouldnt have them. I think its very important to learn katas, beacuse they arent just a bunch of funny looking moves to the sides, and advancing, each move actually has an explanation and can be followed by hundreds of techniques/combos. Katas also help alot on building technique and adquiring good form when fighting. Aside from its wide range of katas, I think shito ryu is a very good style all around.

Thats a nice look into it... Never thought about it, hehe ill try it next time on my bouncy opponent.

I still dont understand this. So far, I know that after the 1st kyu, comes black belt (Shodan Ho), which is first degree black belt right? Then, it is followed by 2nd dan, which is second degree black belt. Does this mean you jump from no stripes to 2 stripes or that there is no plain black belt beacause 1st dan is 1 stripe? I also know in some styles they dont use the stripes, but im asking about the ones that do. IF its too confusing, here - Is it - |Black belt| - Plain or has 1 stripe?, |Black belt, 2nd degree| - 1 stripe or 2 stripes?

Everytime I get in a fight, I feel confident of myself. I know how to knock out my opponent, seriously injure, or kill him with my own hands. I think the best way to not being scared is gaining knowladge. The more you know, the more confident youll be, because youll know what will do what and where. For example - You said you first aim for the nose. No, the nose cant kill a person(The bone going into the brain is a mith). Yes, this wont kill someone but will injure them, same thing if you aim for the upper lip, the stomach, or even the heart, which will shock the person for a few seconds. If you are scared, and let power take over knowladge, your techniques might bet out of control and your punches can slide to parts which are dangerous to hit, such as the windpipe, which can be crushed, the temple, which can cause concussion or even the jaw, which will paralyze one side of the opponents face. If you KNOW you have the knowladge to disable him, with such strikes as a knee kick, punch to the nerves on the shoulder or even on the groin, you should not be afraid, because no matter how strong or big the opponent is, there is no muscle on the skull, or any of the other vital points, and if there is, enough pressure will always do the trick. Youre being pushed around? DONT HIT THE PERSON, that will trigger him and you will probably get into a fight. I would reccomend any kind of locks or pressure to vital points, which wont really have any violence, but you will make him beg you to let go Anyways, in conclusion, dont be afraid to take a hit, chances are your opponent is as scared, or even more scared than you. If you get hit, you come back up and use your best judgement on what you should aim for. P.S - Only karate fights look good, no real fights will be clean or have all those fancy 360 kicks. Dont be afraid to look bad. But as always, the best thing is to try and not get into a fight.

LMFAO, too much tv

I train in a shito ryu dojo, and its awsome. As far as kata goes, they have mostly different variations of shotokan/goju ryu katas, and they add up to be about 40+ katas in total. As for self defence, I like it alot, because every sigle move has an explanation, and we are tought how to use it, for example on Heian Yondan, on the first bunkai you get to hit the opponent on the nerves on the side of the neck then drop him to the ground and from there, you can finish him off however you want.(Thats how its like on my dojo) I would definately check it out.

Im not going to be checking up on this post anymore, none of you seem to get it through your head that this post was pure opinion.
-
I changed all that, remember?.... If i still spend that much time i wouldnt be as fit, besides, school started now taking up around 10 hours of my day, plus my instrumental practice and such.

Somehow, I agree that bouncing is a waste of energy, but it also will give you speed, which you will probably will need. I can turn to the side twice as fast if im bouncing, than if i wasnt. Also, I can attack much faster.

In my opinion, 4 hours of lessons dosnt help much more than 1 hour. Your teacher can correct you to a point, from then on, its full on training by yourself, THERE I would train 4 hours, not with my teacher lol
-
First see how many pushups you can do maximum, push yourself. Now do half of that amount in 4 sets per day. Do 4 sets of 25 roundhouses and 4 sets of 25 punches. Rich - Thanks for your reply, unfortunatelly, I cant get a job - no time, with school work and all.
-
Lol! We are one of 2 schools in the whole miami area... Id apreciate it if you stopped insulting my school and started thinking about more mature replys you can make.
-
??? matbla - Why dont you just set a signature insted of posting that on every post you make? Just look in the top right and go to Profile. Drunken monkey - whaa??
-
Sorry, dont get mad! XD. He is not passing people who suck, and I think you brake your leg or something if u go 50 degrees extra lol Drunken - This post was meant to express an opinion on a popular topic... Are you really drunken? Sometimes what you say dosnt make sense, maybe its just me.

I think practicing is the best way, as soon as you start learning a new kata, you will probably practice it alot, and then when you do an older one, youll get confused and mix some things from the new ones That happens to me alot with heian yondan/godan, juroku and matsukatze, they are so confusing sometimes XD
-
Fish - Exactly. Shorinryu Sensei - You dont understand, its not as punishment. Maybe after a bit of sitting down while other people perform kata I might get cold, so a few pushups, laps and squats will allow to perform kata better, faster, stronger. As these people have said, I debut there is such thing as perfect on a kata. My teacher does work the adults classes harder though, my classes are weaker because we got 10-15 year olds - Fish's post is basically whats happening.
-
Ohh no, you dont sound harsh at all! Thanks for the comment, I did have a talk with my parents recently, and its all woring out great. When he got mono, he was 5'11" and 136 pounds! - WHOA! lol
-
Um... your not really making sense, but anyways, my teacher is a 4th dan on shito ryu so yeah he knows like all the katas and stuff, and hes qualified by the world shitoryu federation or whatever. My dojo isnt a McDojo.
-
Lol somehow those katas look funny to me, maybe im used to shito ryu's version of katas. I can see in most of those, the guy stomps the floor alot, in my style they teach us not to do that XD. On Nifanchin shodan(tekki one) I though you were suposed to use the glass hour stand, nifachin dachi, weird

Seems like most of you are forgetting this is just my opinion. If you dont agree, or dont like it, you have the right to, but dont tell me im WRONG. Opinions can never be wrong, that is the reason there are opinions and facts. Angela - I understand what you are saying. In my case, it is a McDojo for everyone BUT me. I let my teacher know I want to learn and perfect my technique. If im not ready for a test, my teacher will fail me, if I mess up a kata, he will make me run laps, if I dont open my wide stand big enough, ill be doing 50 sqats. If im doing a kick wrong, he will correct me. Is this how he treats all the other kids? No. It is because I let him know I care, and that I dont want a McDojo. ALSO, if the instructor sucks, but all the students really want to learn the art and push themselves, practice everyday and learn as much as they can, I dont think it will be considered a McDojo, since all the students would be very good. I will have to disagree with you on that one. Luckyboxer - Are you saying that in your school if your cat stand is 0.2 degrees off, you will fail a test? Also - "If students dont want to work as hard i can see having them take longer then normal to learn the curriculum, but to just pass them through because they kinda have the gest of it, seems really bad :/" They dont kind of have an idea for it, they know everything that must be learned, and they know it correctly. No, they dont work out all day, or do pushups and situps, some people are only 10 years old, and you must be forgetting that some people actually have a life. Karate is not everything for some people, the point you are making is that you must be perfect or it will not be acceptable. We are on the 21st century, noone will come attack us with wooden armor we need to break. For alot of us, karate is just another sport, and for myself, I have no intentions to dedicate my full life to it. Seven star - Im the one who feels sorry for you, your brain is too full of katas and cannot process the word " OPINION "

Dude, did you know that not every person in the universe is the same? That was you, this is me. Im SLIGHTLY losing weight, but at the same time gaining much muscle mass, and I only train for about 2 hours a day, an day has 24 hours... I dont remember ever stating that I never communicate with my parents... Anyways, my mom is starting to have some days taken off at work, and now she knows that I dont wanna eat trash... She dosnt even bother making any high fat foods, she knows I wont eat them. Thanks for the post
