  1. First off there is no one step sparring in JJJ, second of all the lapel grab is used as a focal point to teach a basic principal about joint manipulation, the jujutsuka is learning techniques at a basic level and then through randori and hardship training he hones his skills. Jujutsu teaches principals, not wooden scenrio techniques. Although some schools do not randori most do. I don't even know why I am wasting my time with this because it's just going to go on and on with you BJJ people. I think this topic has ran it's course as we are going right back to where it started off. Lock please!
  2. A good judoka would be able to cripple a street punk for life if he had to. It has awesome ground work and awesome throws, sweeps, and takedowns so be it clinch range or on the ground judo has it covered.
  3. Hey Shazaam, it's easy to parrot what you here other people say about a subject so can you please include an example of some of the techniques that don't work. Just for my edification.
  4. Kurt Angle, Chris Benoit, Bob "hardcore" Holly, Al Snow (who trained Dan Severn for his ufc debut) Taz, And Brock Lestner would do very well in any grappling match against anyone. These guy are in serious condition year round and have some serious martial arts and grappling backgrounds. Especially Kurt Angle.
  5. JohhnyS may or may not be correct. Diffrent styles sometimes name similar holds by diffrent names. The cross face that the WWE guy is using looks like a spinal compression lock and is different in function then it's BJJ variant. JohnnyS remmember when you said that one submission I put up was called "stocks"? Well I had never heard it called that before, I had always know of it as the crucifix hold and it wasn't until you mentioned it that I looked it up and saw that it was called stocks in some grappling traditions. So Sano may be right. Just 2 cents.
  6. News to me. We do a lot of grappling and groundwork. It depends on the school. If you have it narrowed down to two, visit each and go with the quality of instruction and school over general opinions of the style. Are the ground submissions apart of the regular shaolin kenpo curriculam or has your sifu simply added them into it? I ask this because I know a lot of people are adding a groundfighting curriculam into their programs since the whole bjj craze. It is important to know if it is taught as a whole in shaolin kenpo or if it varies from school to school because as far as I know it doesn't include groundfighting as a regular part of the technique set, but all japanese jujitsu schools include ne waza. I could be wrong though so please enlighten me.
  7. Really? Are they bald headed?
  8. They are nearly identical in both technique and combat philosophy. But the japanese jujitsu has ground submissions, shaolin kempo does not.
  9. Holy stick, 9 years of age! He must be....THE ONE!!!
  10. Oh and by the way Gokor is holding his Hayastan grappling challenge tournament in knoxville tennesee. He has said he will roll with whomever wants to roll with him. Here is the link. http://www.mma.tv/events/EventDetail.cfm?EID=664
  11. So basically it becomes a style of fighting correct?
  12. What exactly are you asking has been out longer, martial arts or christianty or buddism/christianty? And what is the relevance to the topic at hand?
  13. Now there's a good way to start a flame war and get this topic locked. This is exactly why I don't like these topics, they can never go on civally for too long.
  14. I'll get straight to the point, what is it? Here is my understanding of it. At first I thought of it as a philosophy of crosstraining in different Martial arts. Then as time went on I noticed some peeps were speaking of it in terms of a specific style(s) of fighting i.e. muay thai, boxing, wrestling, and BJJ. So what I need to know from MMA fans is what it is exactly. If I train in Kyokushinkai, judo, and boxing am I doing mma? If the answer is no then why not? If I do muay thai, BJJ, wrestling, and boxing am I doing MMA, jeet kune do concepts, or pancretion? Tell me!
  15. Can you provide me some verification of this? I have heard of these accusations against him before. Although I don't know all of the details about the alleged lies he told I can say that I know of specific half truths he has told which also contributed to me leaving his dojo. But having said that, the mans grappling skill is without question on par with some of the very best in the biz and I personally spoke with Carlos Machado about him and he had nothing but praise for the man and his skills, and stangely enough he wouldn't confirm or deny if he had tapped to Gokor during training, So who knows?
  16. Now that's a wee bit harsh to flatout call us liars isn't it? I don't know about Treebranch's instructor, but I trained under Gokor Chivichyan at the Hayastan academy for about a year and a half before leaving to train elsewhere due to transportation issues. I'm sure I don't have to explain anything else... unless you doubt Gokor could give the Machados a good run.
  17. Royce won multiple pride championships when? He has never won in pride to my knowledge. He would have to improve his stand up and ground game tremendously to win pride because the people who compete in pride are much better grapplers then the people who competed in the early ufc's. You saw the result of what happend to Royce when he fought Sakuraba at pride grand prix, he got pasted and his brother had to throw in the towel after a 90 minute beating.
  18. Check out this link. It gives step by step instuctions complete with photo stills of this unique and deadly style of fighting. Enjoy! http://sardonia.org/karate/index.html
  19. Actually some of the kata of the okinawin styles can be interpreted as groudfighting/grappling moves such as an armbar and the like. And they do train to strike from the ground effectively as well. Check out bushido-kai.com to learn of these applications.
  20. This guy has a damn good sense of humor! ROTFL!! It's funny because I was thinking the same thing, seems as if taijitsu has some techniques for cheating as well. No but seriously can you imagine the damage a trained knife fighter can do in that position? It would be brutal! Just imagine the onlookers faces when they see that, they would all be like
  21. My former instructor has tapped SEVERAL Machados' before so what's the big deal?
