  1. Good point. Perhaps though, an individual's greatest chance of achieving change in a society such as ours, is to make a stand. Democracy is about the majority. If it will cost votes, only then might the laws be changed. Defiance is one way, none of which are particularly effective, to be noticed - the first step in getting supporters. Oh really Fair enough.
  2. Ok guys.. go easy on me, I'm a mathematician who did two years of physics in my undergraduate degree. I've always had an interest in Physics but I haven't kept up to date with the latest developments. I'm entering this conversation with the hope of learning something from you. Have you both heard of Professor Krauss? I've got a book here that he's written that describes (in simple terms) how Fermilab stores antimatter for long periods. He compares the method to how the Tokomak devices contain high-temperature plasmas. The book also tells how protons and anti-protons can be accelerated and controlled, by magnetic fields, to collide in specified points. Drunken Monkey are you suggesting Matter/Anti-matter weaponry is impossible or improbable.. or just that the technology is not there to make them cost-efficient?
  3. Why is it that people are so quick to mouth negative comments? Actors kiss in movies. Is that considered cheating on their partners? Why should any other genre of artistic performance be different? A kiss is a sign of affection. Why are we so eager to avoid positive actions? The world is full of anger hate and violence. If we all kissed a little more often the world would be a better place. Didn't society get over the whole homosexuality is bad stereotypes back in the 90s? In any case, one's sexuality is not defined by their actions, but by their feelings. I acknowledge that Americans tend to be a little behind the rest of the world.. and are a little too conservative.. but what is wrong with educating children about sexuality? Perhaps we shouldn't teach them maths or english either? Education promotes harmony whereas secrecy only prolongs propeganda and resentfullness. Keep smiling, enjoy life - don't be jealous of others who are either!
  4. What a great idea!
  5. I think its probably because the Martial Arts community has grown out of that adolescent attitude.
  6. WOW! I seemed to have missed this thread before.. what a conversation.. Black holes, Anti-matter, even some metaphysically theology Gotta go to work now but I'm gonna read back through some of this.. sorry.. but there'll be more than two cents worth coming.. Might even have to get out those undergrad physics texts
  7. Laws are made by men with political goals in mind.. Laws are not necessarily related to ethics or even science. Clearly the laws that have been put in place have allowed for a generally comfortable lifestyle for most. However, "because its the law.." is nothing more than juvenile gang psychology on a large scale.
  8. Most freedom fighters want to have their cake and eat it too. Education is the key to "freedom" and improving society. Knowledge is power. Hero: "A person noted for feats of courage or nobility of purpose" Terrorist: "One that engages in acts of force or violence with the intention of intimidating societies or governments" One who is violent or seeks to intimidate others cannot be a hero. Terrorists are the worst possible type of human beings.

  12. Pffffft! The older you get, the more you understand the value of relationships. In fact, our lives are defined by them. Refusing to date someone in your class is equivalent to refusing to be friends with people with blonde hair, or not training under instructors who drive Fords.. A true relationship should be based on who you are and your compatibility with the other person, not on your hair colour, job description or your karate grade. We are all faced with decisions in our lives. If we make the wrong decision we can make a mistake - BUT we can learn from it, we can grow and become better people. If we decide to pass on an opportunity we pass on life and pass on experience. "If you never take risks, you'll never truly live." "The only thing to fear is fear itself." Keep smiling, V
  13. Although the response is common among young people without a lot of life experience, it is still a valid philosohpical stance. Although not necessarily one I would choose..
  14. Hi all, I don't think we should criticise someone, until we've walked a mile in their shoes, so to speak. There are always exceptions but.. Generally, teachers say what they say and do what they do for one of three reasons. 1. They care for the student and honestly believe they are doing what's best for them. 2. They are sick and tired of being treated poorly from immature teenagers and lose their cool for a minute. 3. They are under pressure from the Principal or Deputy and are following orders. Keep smiling, and show a little respect for a group of people who's rights are diminishing and responsibilities are growing..

  18. But doesn't that happen everywhere? Some relationships work, some don't..
  19. "Commercial ****** .... selling out?" Couldn't the same be said for anything in a capitalist society? Our society encourages it! Big business and making money sadly governs our society..
