The action involved tiltign your head for 2 reasons. One is that really ahrd part of your skill is about where most people's hairline is; the second is that the angle of hit produced would do little to jar your head around (bouncing your brain in your skill, which is what causes knockouts and brain damage). Actually the front of your hairline is not the best place. It is very thick but comes to a point on the inside of your skull, which your brain will then impale itself on. If possible, the sides of your head above the same amount up have an area almost as thick that is smoothe on the inside. Bouncing around of the brain inside your skull, especially on the pointy bits, causes punch-drunkedness, but knockouts are usually caused by twisting or bending of the spinal cord.

Ever had to use your MA in a real sreet fight

In my opinion, there's nothing wrong with using martial arts for offense. However, I would recommend against using it in rage. If that happens again, count to ten, then plant a carbomb. -
Dahahaha, that'll teach 'em to follow rules. Remember, history remembers the winners, the fact that they cheated is only a footnote.

Martial arts being highly effective versus slave traders armed to the teeth and operating in groups? Are you sure about that? -
Dropped By a 5 year old!!!!!

The instructor should've said "Maybe Karate isn't you thing. Try flying!" and then punted the kid into the air! Dahahaha, that'd be hilarious! -
No offense, but that sounds a bit far fetched. A train hitting you will not send a 250 pound man that far. If this guy packs more power than a train, maybe he could find a lucrative career in demolition.

Being bigger will sacrifice some of your flexibility and such, but the strength gains are more than worth it, in my opinion. Who would you rather be - Mike Tyson or a Russian gymnast, both with the same level of training?

MMA vs. Reality

But conversely there are many things that you probrably don't expect, not because it's against the rules, (there are none) but just because the environment in a real fight is so varied and irregular compared to the homogenized ring of MMA that you don't always notice something. For instance, if you were to casually walk through an area with another person looking for potential weapons, the conferred about your findings, chances are that both of you would have noticed things that the other did not. You simply might not have noticed a pitcher of beer that could be used to great effect as a swinging implement, or that the table wasn't bolted to the floor and could be tipped over onto someone while grappling on the floor. Even against things like biting, obviously you can't predict and be ready for every possible attack that the person could throw at you. I don't do much grappling, partially for that reason, because it gives the other person time to think and time to come up with something they might not have considered at a slower tempo. In the example of Mike Tyson, for instance, I don't think Tyson planned ahead and said "Okay, I'm gonna clinch, then bite his ear off." It was likely more like "Damn, this isn't working out. Hey.. what's this in front of my mouth? *chomp* Haha, sucker." -
Well, you never know. It could work.

What about in.. some movie. I don't remember which one. Aha! I saw an episode of ninja turtles once where the turtles got their butts handed to them and barely escaped alive. Then Splinter was like "this is a great victory for all of us." And me and my friends were like "WTF? You let shredder get away with that crystal and now he can shrink anyone or anything at any time? How is that a great victory?" I shall conquer all! ALL! I first need to find a way to preserve myself indefinately, but once that's done, ohh.. it's all over for democracy.

That all depends on what is at stake. You can charge the weapon from a distance of several feet. A hit to your brain, upper spine, or abulitory system (bones in the hips or legs) will stop you; but a "center of mass" hit will still leave you with at least 10 seconds of consious action; and never underestimate the ability to miss even at close range. Two hands, close to his body, with a willingness to "fish" with the gun makes control hard... if you are armed at all, you may be able to "kill him back" (I can sever a lot of important arteries in 10 seconds), and depending on the situation; this may be perferrable to some alternatives. Yes, but you ignore the most simple and most likely solution. They're not going to shoot you once COM and wait for you to die. They're probrably going to shoot you again and again until you stop moving. I know I would. In fact, I'd probrably shoot you until you were laying motionless on the ground, then a couple in the head just to be safe. But that's just me. I'm just saying, if they decide you shoot, you will likely be shot many times, not just once. With a gun held tactically in two hands you could expect to squeeze off 4 or 5 rounds per second... so that 10 seconds might be a little shorter than you had planned. I didn't mean close to his body and "fishing" with the gun, (whatever that meant) I meant a tactical position, basically the same as you would hold a rifle only, of course, it's much shorter.

I disagree with that. I consider common sense to be using other people's logic when your own is lacking. I consider common sense to be inferior to your own logic. Common sense tells you that a small battery is incapable of causing you serious harm - Not true, a man once electrocuted himself (and died) with a 9V battery. Common sense would tell you that you can't put out an oil/grease fire with water, because it just spreads the oil/grease - This is not true, it does spread it but it still absorbs energy from the combustion reaction into the water and thus will quell the flame if you use enough. .. and so on. I dislike common sense!

[quote name="TJS HAd it been a "real fight" what woudl have kept holyfield from doing the same thing back? After the bite I imagine Tyson would back up to leave Holyfield to suffer. Depending on what part of the ear, it can bleed ALOT. Swimming goggles will allow you to practice eye-gouging relatively safely. If you hit the plastic with an eye-gouging attempt, that would obviously have gone into the eye otherwise. -
Mas Oyama could kill a bull by punching it in the head. Conditioning your fists will remove any worry of damaging it on the other person's skull.

Yes, because we all know how much girls like it when you slept with 5 different girls at college. Don't worry about "missing out on college girls." Promiscuity is bad, mmkay! -
Is she hot? If so, then don't look a gift horse in the mouth. If not, you could say something extremely rude so she won't want to be your partner either, like "Hot damn, you gotta license to be so ugly??"

My space fleet shall crush your puny ki flames! Stupid NASA refuses to drop their price on a Saturn V so I can build and launch my very own deep space fighter craft. I'll never pay 25 million dollars for your crappy rocket! Never! However, it this was a truly nerdy conversation, it would look like this: Ph3AR my 1337 5P8CE FI331! Hax0RZ!

defense against a push
Warp Spider replied to aznkarateboi's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
Are we talking a "yo watch where you goin' bro" kind of push, or a "you're a foot away from a brick wall and about to meet it at 30 MPH" kind of push?
