How to achieve maximum damage?
Warp Spider replied to Silverunicorn's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
I think that the science behind impacts on human beings is too complex to be boiled down to a single concept like momentum. If you really want to simplify it, the damage you will do to your target is primarily based on the composition and volume of tissues disrupted and the extent of disruption caused. However, as to how to translate that into how you can cause more damage by punching.. well, hitting vulnerable areas I guess, and hitting hard. There isn't really any "trick" to causing damage, just practice. (Unless, of course, weapons enter the picture) -
Yes... though they live within the ships I believe. There's also two types, the actual "warp spiders" which purge and purify any foreign psychic influences, and the aspect warriors named after them.

if someone pulled a gun on you
Warp Spider replied to sansoouser's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
I suppose we'll have to agree to disagree, if you should ever be so unfortunate as to find yourself in this situation I suppose you will have plenty of time to argue the matter with God. -
Well, yes.. you should be good enough to not hit anything... but most drivers will have at least one accident in the time they spend driving, usually within the first year, so it doesn't hurt to be safe. PS: I'm not American. There are some "american" cars that I like, others I do not like. Similarly, there are some imported cars that I like, while others I can't believe can actually find buyers. For a zippy sports car, I'd probrably get a European car. For a functional vehicle though, any Ford is good, alternatively I've heard that Chevettes will NEVER quit, no matter how hard you are on them.

Uhh, I never mentioned the range in my argument. I was suggesting you do this in a somewhat relistic environment. Controlled conditions does not have to mean a lab, but the situation is different every time in those statistics. Some times the shot may be easy, other times it may be difficult. Those shots of varying difficulty are lumped together and that is why stastics mean nothing. Exactly. I don't see why you find that hard to understand. If by targets, you mean people, and by range, you mean the bathroom/basement/bedroom/front yard/driveway, then yes. Non-lethal projectiles are fun! (Always wear safety goggles when being fired upon, BTW.) -
Mike Tyson V.S Bruce Lee
Warp Spider replied to Ti's topic in MMA, Muay Thai, Kickboxing, Boxing, and Competitive Fighting
I'd vote Mike Tyson. -
The more realism the better, for sure, the only problem with a more realistic environment is that people are more likely to get hurt. Like you mentioned there's a good chance you will be fighting on a relatively hard surface. You would be wearing shoes which greatly changes the way you should kick. It also hurts a lot more. A shoeless shin kick or heel kick "hurts." Getting kicked with a shoe with a fair bit of force is likely to HURT. Imagine getting kicked in the face without shoes.. it's like a slap. With shoes.. you're wondering where you are for a few seconds. You can see how a person could easily be injured in a less controlled environment.

I disagree with that. Mike Tyson is big. Most Thai fighters would be laid out with cartoon stars floating around their head after a single blow. Thai kicks are powerful, but I'm sure he can take it. As for training and whatnot, until you get a trainer I'd say mostly just hit the heavy bag lots and do some cardio exercises.

Warp Spider replied to Kirves's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
Often in a fight there is at least one unwilling participant. Other times there is a severe conflict of interest, not related to humility. Suppose your country was invaded, and enemy soldiers were going to execute your family? If you fought them I'd hardly place that as a lack of humility or intelligence. Likewise if, for instance, someone or something of great importance to you was stolen/kidnapped by someone. Would resistance in that case be due to hubris or dim wits? -
Well, there are asian and european cars in North America, so I would expect that they have imported "American" vehicles as well. F-150 is a tough truck, not bad for a first time driver, because if you hit something with it it'll be fine. EDIT: If you don't want to get a high-end exotic like I suggested above (don't know why you wouldn't want to, but meh) I'd recommend getting a classic muscle car or other "antique" car. People may laugh, but if you restore it you can turn a lot of profit when you resell it. Newer cars will depreciate, older cars will appreciate, even if their condition does not improve.

Martial_Artist, you claim that I don't have facts but the 'fact' is, you don't either. When was the last time you gunned down a fleeing victim? Alternatively, how many times have you fled from a gun-wielding assailant? NOTHING can be inferred from statistics or studies that are so unscientific. The only way of getting actual facts about how difficult it is to shoot a fleeing target is to try it under controlled conditions. Case studies are fun, but unscientific and invalid as an argument. A suspect recently ascended to the roof of a hotel during a standoff and was shot, while moving, in the head, with the first shot from a policeman. Does this case prove anything about the accuracy of police officers? Of course not, and neither do the cases you list. Similarly, studies of how accurate people have been in recorded instances is no indication of how accurate a person you will be faced with will be. As mentioned, perhaps you could actually try this. Get a gun, and some simunitions, and try shooting at a moving target. I recommend rapid semi-automatic, gradually increasing your lead on the target as you fire rounds. This is a fairly reliable method of hitting a target with a great deal of lateral motion, but that's just my experience. If you want to really know how easy or difficult it is to hit a target, I'd advise spending some time behind a muzzle, instead of behind a keyboard looking up statistics. -

I had a group of people try to mug me and two friends once.. unfortunately they were a fairly organized group, 6 people surrounded me with another group of 6 a short distance away so as not to draw a lot of attention. One of my friends made enough of a distraction for me to get away, then he took off himself. The third guy ran with me when I escaped the circle. -
I'd go with knife or possibly stick. A lot of objects can be used like a knife, though if they aren't sharp it's not nearly as effective. Screwdrivers can't really slash, but they can stab and a quick slash still gives a painful scrape. Broken beer bottles aren't as aerodynamic but are still sharp. If it wasn't broken yet, it can still be used with a knife technique as a clubbing weapon. A sharp rock could maybe work but it would be harder to locate one. Keys can be used to some extent with a knife technique, though they usually aren't very sharp or large. Sticks are also often in abundance. Pool cues, actual sticks, car antennas (note that breaking off someone else's car antenna can quickly lead to a 2 on 1 battle if they are present or show up during the fight.) A crowbar, baseball bat, or wrench could also be used with a stick technique, though less effectively.

if someone pulled a gun on you

Again you make the comparison between the attacker and a police officer. Unless you are in fact being attacked by a police officer, that comparison has no grounding. Generally speaking, a seasoned criminal will be a much better shot than a police officer. Most of the time if someone pulls a gun on you, it's not the first time they've pulled a gun, and likely not the first time they've gunned down a fleeing victim. Police often have relatively little real experience. Many of them have never opened fire on a suspect. The shooting range helps, but it is no replacement for experience. Perhaps you could actually try this against someone with a fair bit of shooting experience. (using simunitions) You could even do it with a paintball gun. I suspect you will find that it is not that difficult to hit the victim repeatedly. If it is, you're probrably not doing it right. Unlike police officers, most attackers will have no qualms about sending a veritable hail of gunfire in your direction, not to mention the fact that they would probraby just shoot you as soon as you started running. Over 90% of rapists have looked at pornography. From that we can infer that the majority of people who look at pornography are rapists. Observe how statistics are completely meaningless, especially when those statistics aren't even related. Running from a person with a gun is just plain dangerous. If you cooperate, there is a good chance you will survive. It's not 100%, but still, it's a lot better than your chance of surviving when you run, which is rather low unless there is cover nearby, or the guy doesn't have the balls to actually shoot you. -
I wouldn't take the Olympic Comittee as an authority on which is the "official" association. They're in no better position to judge that than anyone else. The only person/people that could really dictate which is the official would be whoever started the art to begin with. Unfortunately, in many cases, those people are long dead.

Special forces get to use guns. That makes it much easier.
-
The F-150 is only a half-ton, but I guess it's pretty big compared to european or asian trucks. Nice truck though, and if it's the 4x4 you can take it off-road.
-
Gun's are incredibly cool. You should try using one, I imagine that you would change your mind. Bolt action isn't as fun though I'd imagine, but semi-auto or full-auto is loads of fun. Semi-auto has a great feeling of power behind it, while full-auto just makes me cackle with glee as I perforate cardboard boxes.

I'd have to give the opposite advice. I was propositioned by a homosexual man who apparently thought I was homosexual as well. Man, that was awkward.

There's also been examples where grapplers have been KO'd without getting a single takedown in. You might have also noticed that the fighters in UFC are generally not like Mike Tyson. In case you didn't notice, Mike Tyson is hugely muscular. If Andre the giant was alive today he'd beat them all!

I believe it is, as you say, because some girls don't feel comfortable training with men. I think you are right that they should train against both men and women, though generally even in mixed classes they try to pair off people of similar sizes.. so even there you miss the practice against someone larger/smaller than yourself.

Well, if it really is a tornado kick I can tell you what I've found when I've tried to do them: because you are spinning around really fast you can't really see where you are going. On the other hand the spinning leg does make a good shield. If you can see it coming you might be able to run in for a takedown when the leg passes you. Following that.. well, I prefer to remain standing and just stomp, but groundfighting might be better. Movies, and whatnot don't generally display as much in the way of groundfighting because it's not as exciting, so you might have an edge if you can take it to the ground.

baseball bats in fights
Warp Spider replied to aznkarateboi's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
Yes. I don't know the names of them.. but something like the "dog brothers" stick fighting would probrably be an effective method of using a bat. -
No offense, but they say exactly that every time a new engine comes out. Look at the screenshot and then look out your window. The graphics in the real world are just a bit better. It's the same engine, really.. the Unreal Engine is constantly updated as new graphics technology becomes availible, and developers that license the engine have access to whatever the latest version is. They call it a new "generation" whenever it has accumulated sufficient new functionality to justify it.
