Can someon help me out here really quick question?
Warp Spider replied to Rising Soldier's topic in Health and Fitness
Kick them in the coccyx. That'll show em how soft you are. -
How do you roll properly and do certain techniques?
Warp Spider replied to Rising Soldier's topic in Karate
What kind of roll do you mean? Like a forward/backward roll, or rolling to the side? (IE out of the way after you've been thrown or otherwise taken down) Also, do you mean a roll starting on the ground, or starting from standing up? If you want to overcome hesitation you could try being more agressive. I find it's much easier to spar against people you don't know, or people who you know and don't like. If it's against someone I know and am somewhat fond of, I find I'm somewhat reluctant to do any attack that might hurt them. -
Well, yes. Use of weapons is always better I think, but the point still stands.. a distraction was my original suggestion. Jab was just an example. Personally I'd think of a jab as a "free" move though, if you work on it it's so quick it can't really be countered. I find it's already back before I barely realize I started it, but that's just me.

MMA vs. Reality
Warp Spider replied to aznkarateboi's topic in Choosing a Martial Art, Comparing Styles, and Cross-Training
Perhaps we all need to agree that we disagree that warpspider is either a complete psycho or a stupid kid trying to be tough and ignore him. It's going nowhere. Actually, neither is the case. I'm no psychopath, just because my morality and beliefs may not match up with the oh-so-wonderful "western world," that doesn't make them any less valid. Believe it or not, "western" beliefs are the minority on a global scale, not that the majority or minority necessarily dictates what's "right." In fact, over half the people on Earth are required by their local laws to learn how to operate assault weapons. Perhaps you've never heard of places where many people train with assault weapons: A) Most of Africa B) Most of Asia C) Most of South America A little bit of searching turned up a military base in "Winnipeg." I understand that they have assault weapons there, I guess that must mean that the people there are all crazy, since they train tactical movement and assault weapon use. Maybe you should call up Iraq and tell the American soldiers that they're obviously just a bunch of kids trying to act tough toting their assault rifles and driving their little tanks. Maybe I missed somewhere, I don't recall reading anything saying "civilians only" in the posting guidelines, so I guess that's just a giant EXCUSE ME for being in a militia. Maybe you should just crucify me for thinking that armed conflict is a fact of life for some people, and that MMA is not an accurate depiction of it. Way to assume everyone lives in "Winnipeg," AndrewGreen. -
The jab is used to distract your opponent to set up the real strike. It's very quick compared to other strikes, and so is much more difficult to block. If you just do crosses/uppercuts/body shots all the time you will get blocked. Technically speaking, you can score in boxing with a jab, but it rarely lands good enough for the judges to call it a point.

MMA vs. Reality

Actually, the term "faggot" is often still used to refer to cigarettes by some people, and others continue to use it to refer to sticks. Coke is still used to refer to cocaine, and to Cola. On top of that, I'm not 16. If I were, my parents would need to be slapped for letting their son develop experimental weapons at such a young age. A supersoaker would make a poor flamethrower. Typically compressed gas is used to propel the fuel charge at great speed and to considerable range, though some people prefer a motor-driven piston system to pump the fuel because it is more compact. As for assault rifles.. well, I've never seen a supersoaker fill something full of holes. You're awfully presumptuous considering you've never met me. Were you unaware that assault rifles and flamethrowers actually exist? "Mars Attacks" and "Independance Day" had similar topics, but were very dissimilar films. Similarly, though the tales of Charlemagne's "paladins" and Arthur's "round table" had a similar premise, the stories themselves were not related. I trained in Shotokan Karate and for a while in Boxing. The guy I spar with most often has trained in JiuJitsu, Boxing, and Shotokan Karate. The other guys I've never asked about their prior MA experiences. -
That's silly, real slaves are way cheaper than that.

Grasshopper kung fu?
Warp Spider replied to Breakdancer's topic in Kung Fu, JKD, Wing Chun, Tai Chi, and Chinese Martial Arts
That sounds kind of expensive. On the other hand, I can punt a grasshopper really hard and it barely seems to hurt them.. maybe it could be an effective style. -

Your "Research" proves nothing except that the people you "learned" that from don't know either. Unless your source professes to be, or to personally know someone who was alive over a thousand ago when the word was used, I'd highly question the authenticity of their knowledge on the matter. Further I'd highly question the relevance of the "historical use" of the word. I suppose some people must smoke a lot of sticks.. surely it can't be a cigarette when it's called a "fag," which originally was used to refer to a bundle of sticks. Heck, come to think of it, this site shouldn't end in ".com" because that originally was used to denote commercial sites. It should be ".edu." While we're at it, I don't think the term "coke" should be used to refer to cola, because it was originally used to refer to cocaine. The point being: A) You can't prove the origin of a word any more than any other living person can. B) Even if you could, it would be irrelevant. I could call my stove a freezer, it wouldn't stop it from cooking my food. I doubt it would hear your pleas of "but that's not what the word freezer was meant to refer to!" C) No matter how much you bash the name of the art that I practice, it's not going to make me say "Gee, I never realized that some guy on the internet who I'll never meet disagrees with me. I guess I should just throw out thousands of dollars of assault weapons and tactical gear. I have seen the light! MMA is so real! I should just drop everything and devote my entire life to MMA, as that must be far more effective than something based around realistic circumstances. Never mind the ability to disarm and use weapons, they never have weapons in MMA anyway. I should also never practice eye gouging, biting, or fighting with steel toed combat boots, since I'll never use those things in MMA. I can just rely on my MMA experience to protect me from people toting knives, handguns, and compact gas-operated semi-automatic rifles. After all, it works in MMA." PS The stories of Charlemagne and those of King Arthur were not related in any way, except that they had similar topics. -
what do you think of mediocre blackbelts?
Warp Spider replied to kungfumaster's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
I'd agree, there are some black belts that are not very good, like there are some low belts that could mop up. Belts are kind of like grades in school - just because you're a higher grade, doesn't make you more intelligent or more knowledgeable. -
Actually it was that sort of proofing itself that caused the problem, allegedly. A power surge at some plant went down the lines and tripped all the safety interlocks.

MMA vs. Reality
Warp Spider replied to aznkarateboi's topic in Choosing a Martial Art, Comparing Styles, and Cross-Training
Um... yeah, it was... Well, I would disagree with that, but there's really no way for either of us to prove it. -
I don't think it's bad being dependant on electricity.. I mean, it's so readily availible, (usually) it's like wondering why we are so dependant on the atmosphere for our oxygen. Sure there's alternative sources, but considering the extra expense.. I'd say it's worth the savings to have a blackout every few decades. That's my opinion anyway.

MMA vs. Reality
Warp Spider replied to aznkarateboi's topic in Choosing a Martial Art, Comparing Styles, and Cross-Training
That's where the term came into popular use, but those were just stories. The term was not invented for those stories. The flamethrowers and rocket launchers I build myself, because military suppliers gyp you big time. Automatic weapons on the other hand are relatively cheap so I can just buy them, though I've been considering building my own so that I can use caseless rounds. (thus far no commercially availible ARs use them, only sporting rifles, so I'd have to make my own.) -
Help! What do I use to holster my Sais?
Warp Spider replied to BobaFett688's topic in Martial Arts Weapons
I think they're a bit sharp and long to carry in your belt without stabbing yourself when you move around. In addition they are illegal in many places so you want something discreet. -
MMA vs. Reality
Warp Spider replied to aznkarateboi's topic in Choosing a Martial Art, Comparing Styles, and Cross-Training
Yes. As we all know D&D involves compact assault rifles and handguns. Roll in a submachine gun of slaying +5 in your tactical holster of holding along with your HEAT Rockets +3 and you'd be ready to go. Ironic too that you judge my art based solely on it's name, yet the website for the academy you claim to teach at says that it in fact encourages it's students to develop their own style. Also I could not advise anyone to "goof around" with automatic weapons, flamethrowers, and rocket launchers, especially in a back yard within view of the general public. I hear the police have a tendancy to overreact when they see people in combat gear wearing gas masks and toting assault weapons. ... as if that matters. If you really like, the term applies to the knights closest to the monarch, and at the time the term was used, the monarch was, of course, the head of the church as well. The term applied to his or her uppermost bodyguards and military generals, though it was not an official title. Dungeons and Dragons took the term for their game long, long after it had primarily fallen out of common use. -
Well... since they are only six it wouldn't be hard for a person to just happen along and throw them against a wall until they were crippled. For maximum effect you can shout something about "eye for an eye." If you have difficulty stomaching that notion a swift kick in the stomach would still drop a six-year-old easily.

Help! What do I use to holster my Sais?
Warp Spider replied to BobaFett688's topic in Martial Arts Weapons
I don't think many places would make holsters for them because I believe they are illegal to carry in most countries. Depending on how sharp, you could just wrap them a few times with some kind of cloth or alternatively use a thigh holster for a handgun and just remove some of the material to make the sai fit. If they're really sharp you could sew a holster from kevlar. -

Warp Spider replied to aznkarateboi's topic in Choosing a Martial Art, Comparing Styles, and Cross-Training
I've never heard of these, but it's quite possible. I've only ever heard of police training using simunitions. Sorry, I didn't see those. I suppose you could say it originated in North America, though some "universal" techniques have been used from other styles. Technically speaking those moves did come from a specific art but are practiced across many arts nowadays. (EG Rear Naked Choke and Double Leg Takedown) It's been developed collaboratively by myself and by the people that I spar with. If you had to pick one person as the founder I'd probrably say myself, though not all of the moves were developed by me. We didn't really give the moves we developed names, but I suppose I could still give some kind of descriptive name for them. The ones borrowed from other arts thus far are: Rear Naked Choke Double Leg Takedown Single Leg Takedown A takedown that I don't know the actual name of, you sidestep a strike and kind of spin them around you. Piledriver I'm not a big fan of arm-bars, but I grudgingly include them too because they are effective. Kneeing - not really taken from a particular martial art, though I can't claim I invented it. Spear - again not a traditional martial arts technique, but some people would consider brawling an art. Tackle - if all else fails... The ones we've developed would best be described as: The "disarm" takedown - this is intended as a knife or gun disarm but can be used in any situation where the victims arms are in front of them. The "paladin stomp" - very neat, it makes my house shake. For obvious reasons, never tested on an unarmoured opponent. It's basically a much more developed version of stomping on a person once they're on the ground. The "leaping kick" - not much to say about that, jumping up while kicking.. kind of like an uppercut with your foot (in effect). It's faster than it sounds like it would be. On top of that there is of course "targets of opportunity," if the person leaves a vital area open then by all means take a swipe. The remainder of the art focuses on tactical movement, as well as various weapon techniques, knife, handgun, SMG, compact AR, stick (short sticks, like Kali, not like a bo staff), and of course, the use of the environment as a weapon.. there's always something pointy around. -
They don't sell the Elises in the US normally because of some silly copyright issue. You can get a continental european-spec Elise imported "grey-legal" but they usually go for over $50,000 US in that instance. You can get the "racing only" versions from Lotus dealers in the US, but they aren't legal for the street. Also there's been talk of making the "next generation" of Elises (IE the next "redesign") availible to the US market.

Warp Spider replied to aznkarateboi's topic in Choosing a Martial Art, Comparing Styles, and Cross-Training
Not by much. You can get handgun paint ball guns that look like the real thing, or shotguns, or other things of that nature. He isn't talking about training with a clear plastic Stingray you bought at wal-mart, he is talking about using the paintball guns used for simulations in Police training. Those are simunitions, which is exactly what I recommended. Those aren't special 'paintball guns', they are real firearms using a special type of round called a simunition which has a paintball instead of a steel bullet and a reduced charge. I'm not psychic. You're going to have to ask them first. -
They're pretty expensive cars.
