Battoujutsu - Help/assistance
battousai16 replied to DireEyes's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
man sevenstar, i just never figured you for an anime fan... it surprises me every time... at any rate, you have the whole series? even after the whole shishio thing? i thought it really got weird after kenshin started fighting jesus... and jesus lost because he wasn't as pure of heart as kenshin ... bah. at any rate, i've said it before and i'll say it again: i don't like the idea of learning sword form a video. it just never works out, especially with drawing. far to many little intricacies. drawings a pain even with an instructor hovering over you. so yeah. i like kenshin too, but it's not worth it if you don't have an experienced instructor there. it just gets to messy. one of the highest ranking in the world, eh? i'll have to check that out the next time i'm in TN... -
um, i started when i was 7, learned a lot, had great amounts of fun, stuck with it. there are children in the kids class that i teach who clearly don't want to be there, and it's the worlds biggest pain for yours truly, who has to try to get them to focus, and more importantly, not lose the focus of everyone else... than you have to try to figure out how to get them on task... so really, it depends on the kid. i have a 4 year old in my class that i would rather not be teaching. he's pretty young, and his techniques are flawed, and he has the attention span of a gold fish. but man, when he picks up on something, i get ecstatic, and he impresses me every time i see him. if he sticks with it, i think he could be pretty great. so uh, yeah, i guess what i'm getting at, is that it depends on the kid. just make sure they want to be there and know what they're doing, and i don't see anything wrong.

was he reffering, perhaps, to the girl who was the star in 4? -

um, i think ringu seemed really random because of some of the stuff they took out for the ring. i mean, all of the sudden the boyfriend can sense spirits? what was that about? ...i guess not all of the sudden, since it was made first and all, but geez! and the soundtrack was so out of place... as for good horror... i'll get back to you on that... "oh, and take your shoes off... i'll be right back" "FINE! GODDAMN IT!" ... i was just about to sit down with fireflies, actually. took my last final for the semester, so i've got nothing to study for.

The lost korean arts - What are they?
battousai16 replied to SifuGraff's topic in TKD, TSD, Hapkido, and Korean Martial Arts
^pretty much what he said^ in my supposedly pure korean style, you can see a lot of chinese, japanese, and thai influences in particular. you'd be hard pressed to find anything ultra korean. -
nice!

The Karate kid poll
battousai16 replied to italian_guy's topic in Martial Arts Gaming, Movies, TV, and Entertainment
the first one, by far. i mean, all of them had plots that were too simple and too obvious. ...in fact, they were all pretty bad movies, really... i still dig 'em though. anyway, the first one. -
though i would do both, if i could only do one or the other for whatever reason, i would run. running works a lot of the larger muscle groups in your legs (quads, hamstrings) and your core (abs, back). jumping rope works your calves, and allows you to be a bit more explosive. if for whatever reason you couldn't jump rope, you could get around that by doing a few sets of hundred meter sprints or jumping onto a crate and back down again... only really fast... don't know if i explained that to well.... at any rate, i think running is a bit better.

...you sure showed him...

yeah, but that dosen't make it very good i saw ringu not to long ago, such a random movie... that said, i've been in a pretty big napolean dynamite funk lately. certainly not for everyone, but i thought it was hilarious. ""I'm Rex, founder of the Rex Kwan Do self-defense system! After one week with me in my dojo, you'll be prepared to defend yourself with the strength of a grizzly, the reflexes of a puma, and the wisdom of a man. At Rex Kwan Do, we use the buddy system. No more flying solo. You need somebody watching your back at all times. Second off, you're gonna learn to discipline your image. You think I got where I am today because I dressed like Peter Pan over here?Take a look at what I'm wearing, people. You think anybody wants a roundhouse kick to the face while I'm wearing these bad boys? Forget about it. Last off, my students will learn about self respect. You think anybody thinks I'm a failure because I go home to Starla at night? Forget about it! "

i'm a pretty huge tekken fan, myself. i can't wait for the new one to come out:) -
wow, i wouldn't expect such shoddy work out of you that's ok though, i'm sure santa will provide me with my own personal set of tracks, too.

y'know, the same thing happened to me. never did find him again... good luck to you, though -
alright, my nak bop sucks. when i get thrown around, i land in the position ok, but i guess i "think heavy". when i land, my instructor says i land "as if he were throwing a wet dog", and he advised me to relax. now, i'm sure this is probably just a lack of experience with being thrown in the air and such, but i have a bit of trouble doing that... particularly when i'm upside down in the air rushing towards the ground.... ahem, anyway. is there anything y'all think about to "think light" and stay relaxed? or is this something that time and practice will just work out?

whoop, gotta' make a correction, we're no longer the obesity capital of the world; mississippi beat us out. i don't even think we're second anymore. i don't know whether to be happy we're getting healthier or sad that we lost our title...
