actually, theaters don't screw you on concessions to rip you off, they screw you in concessions to stay open. movie reels are very, very expensive, even just to rent, and the ticket prices generally don't cover it. in fact, in it's first week, 90% of ticket sales go straight to the producers. that number goes down as weeks go by, but, say, for big blockbusters that flop and make all of there profits in the first week... y'know, like what we've been getting... that said, i don't buy concessions either. i also read an article on the hollywood slump. it blamed our trend in terrible movies. hollywoods best has been pretty lousy in the grand scheme of things, and all of the best movies in the last 10 years have been indie.

you might consider bussing at another place. or waiting tables, which i always got a kick out of. also, if there's a target near by, they pay pretty well and give good benifits to wee ones such as ourselves, and i've always found it a pretty friendly environment... and as far as massive corporations go, they're not the most evil.

well, it wasn't that good, but it certainly didn't physically hurt. but that's coming from a pretty big batman geek. um... except now that i think about it, i don't think one part really stood out over the rest of the movie. not to call it bad, it was just pretty on par for the whole thing. though i hate the new batmobile, i'm not gonna' lie.

ELVIS PRESLEY "KARATE KING"
battousai16 replied to HARD HITTER's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
actually, a friend of my father's has done a lot of body guarding and did some work for elvis, and says that he was a wonderful guy. evidently he used to want to be a police officer. -

i hear his wife was a far more talented karateka than elvis himself. -
"Almost all the fight scenes are done to close up and the camera is constantly moving so you don't see any of the details of the fight, drives me nuts" that seems to be a trend right now, i've seen it a lot in recent movies. i guess it's easier than actually choreographing a real fight.

"Read there song White Flesh. It is about killing a girl. In one of their songs, they talk about being in a school yard, preparing themselves to kill." actually, that's the song in question. and? johnny cash writes "i shot a man in reno, just to watch him die". no one calls him a tool of the devil. "The kids that did the Columbine shooting said that Rammtein was their favorite music. If you watch the Columbine footage, you see them sitting in the school yard loading their guns before going in and killing their classmates. " Rammstein is one of my favorite bands too... i still haven't shot up the school. so unless rammstein is sending subliminal messages that i'm just not attune too... i hardly think you can call rammstein an integral part of the shooting.

not quite in the same vain, but this has always impressed me. http://www.ubersite.com/m/38520

"Try looking up their lyrics." what about them? du hast? amerika? alter mann? sonne? engel? reise reise? ohne dich? sure, they have a lot of lyrics that... er... provoke, but even a lot of those are generally taken the wrong way. and it's tough to beat their blend of harmonies and melodies and guitar and keyboard. brilliant, i tells ya.

^maybe, but i also heard that there aren't very many.^ i had high hopes for the movie until i saw another preview for it the other day. the first few previews i saw for it peaked my curiosity, but this last one... hopefully this is closer to the hero or once upon a time in china side than the romeo must die or kiss of the dragon side. -
i'm a huge tekken fan. i think it's easy to play, and as stupid as the stories usually are, i tend to get absorbed in them. and it's always good for a laugh or two. lee's 5 ending was great. i'm also a big tenchu fan. the stealth kill animations are cool, and i like the stealth genre in general. and rikimaru is inherently bad *.

Family Guy

that new episode was great. the intro alone was worth the wait and the mess of the show. did anyone see the one where stewey does a duet with that girl... i want to say her name is olivia... they have a pretty good fight scene somewhere in that one. the flow of the combonations and the fact that they actually utilize stances is something that always impressed me, especially considering that so much of its audience is a bunch of drunken frat boys. as far as cartoons go, i think this one's near the top as far as good fight scenes. then again, i'm a pretty big geek... -
Kung Fu Hustle
battousai16 replied to elila's topic in Martial Arts Gaming, Movies, TV, and Entertainment
well, i saw it yesterday. it wasn't worth the price of admission, but i don't regret the hour and a half i spent on it, so that's always something. i'd say it's worth checking out. shaolin soccer is mentioned a bunch cuz it was made by the same guy, and it's the same basic style of humor. -

Worst martial arts movie?
battousai16 replied to Grenadier's topic in Martial Arts Gaming, Movies, TV, and Entertainment
"1. no retreat no surrender....the ghost of bruce lee trains some kid in an abandoned house" oh man, i know what i'm renting this weekend! -
"He started his dancing movements...back and forth, which I had seen them do extensively during their demonstration, and I can easily see how it would be confusing and deceptive it I had not seen it before." i'm still painfully to capoeira, but my instructor says that if someone is in jinga for that long, he's either new, or he really sucks. so, using that logic, if you saw it that much, they were either pretty new, or something. that said, i haven't seen much out side of omulu capoeira, but know there's a difference between playing capoeira and fighting with capoeira.

that's one hell of a plus, really. don't forget, the leaps and flips also impress the ladies
-
actually, as far as the martial arts go, i think the flashy tricky stuff is the only thing you can learn pretty well off the internet, though i'll admit, i've made leaps and bounds since i've started playing capoeira. at anyrate, i'd go for the websites listed about, except remember that doing a trick on a trampoline is not the same as doing it on the ground. i reccomend staying grounded first, then go to the trampoline, else your... what's the good word... um... feel ? will be thrown off.

SAMMO HUNG
battousai16 replied to gordo's topic in Martial Arts Gaming, Movies, TV, and Entertainment
i generally don't mention him because my favorites are when he's with jackie chan and yuen biao, which i regard as chan films... with the exception of the one where they're in a prison. but that wasn't that good a movie anyway. -

"This seems to happen often with that Christmas Chipmunks song where they're pleading Santa to give them gifts or something. I always hear the part where one of them (Theodore I think) says "Caaaan I haaave a hooola hooop?" over and over and over again." you poor girl...

man, i had "this love" in my head for the longest time, which really sucked cuz i hate that song. the worst is when you get a song in your head that you don't really know, so it's the same 8 bars or so forever! the trick is to have an arsenal of the catchiest songs ever to get less catchy songs out. particle man, anyone?

there are a billion websites if you google 'em, but to tell you the truth, the best way to learn is to go out there and screw up. a lot. kick down on one end to put it in the air, use the other foot to manipulate it; there's not much to it in theorey. personally, i use an enjoi deck because i think it gets a bit more pop than others. just skate around with people and you'll pick stuff up.
