  1. i love this game, and i loved the first 2. my only real problem with it is the lack of an in game save. grrrr, the game can be so frusterating!
  2. "I thought they were hitting the drums with escrima sticks. " anyone hitting a taiko drum with an escrima stick is a pretty lousy percussionist. there are sticks made especially for them, which can easily be supplimented with clavés. anything to much longer, and you'll get to much leverage and damage the drum head.
  3. alright monkeygirl, i've been reading this silently enough, that's it. superman couldn't take wolverine or spiderman. superman was a total loser. as long as we can throw in other superheros, batman takes 'em all. ...dear god, did i just say that? say what you will y'all, but i'm the biggest loser out of all of you.
  4. well, the kenshin/saito fight was amazing, and i'm partial to the kenshin/cho the sword hunter fight, and the christian saga was very cool, but compared to the OAVs, they're nothin.
  5. "Do you practice Sanchin or Tensho in your style?" eh? whuzzat?
  6. well, thanks guys, y'all helped a lot. i'm breathing normally again, and all of the extra practice on top of the extra practice has made my forms a heck of a lot better. thank you.
  7. if you goto the health, training, and fitness section there are a whole bunch of threads on stretching and such.
  8. i don't really prefer either one, i just use whatever is more convenient. i typically like to throw around a slower opponent, and people often try to throw you to the ground and pin you, so grappling is nice to have. i think at a self defense stand point it's almost essential that you know both.
  9. mortal kombat has become hideously over used. i think it's lost its edge. i use some heavy metal. and don't feel bad about using sonic to psyche yourself up. i once did this big form to "copa cabana" by barry mannilow, and it came to the point that when people thought of me they thought of barry mannilow and vice versa, so yeah, copa cabanas on my psyche out cd. "her name was lola... she was a show girl...."
  10. i think that ones a stretch. why would anyone attack a person carrying a big metal snow shovel? aren't you just asking for a concussion?
  11. well, i work part time in a library, which is really fun, because i like to read and such and the benefits are awsome and the people i work with are cool and i saw the new harry potter book before ANY OF YOU DID HA HA HA (which dosen't really mean much; as i'm not a large harry potter fan). anywho, i make some extra money as a drummer for bands who's drummers break there hand or quit and the band is in between drummers. you know, a "hey ben, $15 if you play for tim at our concert on friday". not much, but it pays for gas. i'm also 17, however, so it's not like i'm in a stable working position. but i can tell you that both of my parents hate their jobs. they can find the good in it though, as i'm sure you can. don't fret. if you don't like working that much, find a new place. i don't know, i know what i'm trying to say, i just don't know how to say it
  12. hey buddy; no harm, no foul. and actually, i typically don't shave my face often; i never seem to be able to find the time. i'm actually clean shaven now because i just had to get school pictures taken, but i'm typically about as shaggy as one can possibly get. most of my friends at school call me a bear
  13. well, from experience, all i've used are my keys, except i used mine differently. my keys are on a laniard, so i was spinning mine around and striking them that way.
  14. well, i've wanted to since before i can remember; i watched the ninja turtles religiousley and was obcessed with bruce lee movies (game of death will always be my favorite). but i live in a small city, and the only big dojo around was karate america, which was very very expensive, and i learned later that it's the prime definition of a mcdojo. on top of that, my dad and i didn't really believe in the martial arts. he thought about 90% of it was just movie stuff and that if you could throw a punch and take a hit you could do just fine in a fight. will, i was a very small child, about 4 feet and 80 pounds when i was in the third grade (absolutely none of that muscle, mind you), and at recess there was this group of 5th grade girls that kept beating the living stuffing outta me. to make things worse, other students at my school would find out and laugh at me and make fun of me and such. so my dad signed me up for wrestling, thinking that if nothing else i could at least put a few pounds on. the coach never showed up, he refused to come in and eventually moved out of town. no one ever figured out what was going on but a new dojo had rented out space in the gym at the middle school, which was about a 3 minute walk from my house. my dad talked about it with my uncle and my uncle said, and i quote, "it's as close to real fighting as you'll ever get him". remember, small town, middle of WI. so i got signed up there and learned the martial arts, where i quickly learned to fend off those stupid girls (actually, one of them and i eventually became friends), and by the time i was advanced, more schools had moved in and there were more demos and such, so awareness was raised about the martial arts and my dad watched some classes and was impressed and all went happilly ever after. i continued because i absolutely love every bit of the martial arts, and when i go more than a day or so without training i really don't feel right. and holy cow, i'm really rambling tonight, i'm sorry, i'm gonna stop this post right here
  15. OH! now i remember! you can't judge whether or not there is honor in the world based on your personal experiences, because the world stretches so far beyond what you know. especially, for example, someone like me, where i live in a small town in america, where i'm completely sheltered from the rest of the world. maybe the people with honor by the definition of shotochem only lies in a small handful of people, but just because you don't know them dosen't mean that they don't exist. i guess i'm just interprating the old adage "you can't spell the word 'assume' without making an @$$ out of 'u' (you) and 'me' (me)".
  16. "It would be an honor for me to pay you master.....?" i may be a little late with this post, but i figured i'd say this anyway. i live in a very small city outside of madison. we really don't have many dojos, and the ones we do have are courses offered inside other buildings (we do, however, have a karate america, for those of you who participated in that post. remember the guy about his daughter and the mcdojo? yeah, that's the one). the one i went to was held in a small auxillary gym in a junior high school. my sensei was getting up there in years and was getting a bad back. the main school was in sun prairie, which is about an hour away from me when traffic and weather was good. on top of that, his car was not the most dependable thing ever. eventually, the cost of renting out the gym became to much, and he had to discontinue classes there. he felt really bad about doing this, especially for me, because i was really the only person who came regularly (small town, most people goto karate america) and i was quite close to achieving my black belt. he felt so guilty about his, that he actually refused to let me pay him any longer for classes. the tuition was absolutely free of charge for the rest of my life. i still had to pay for tests, weapons, tournament fees, etc., but tuition was free, and life was good. there was a school farther in madison, only about 35 minutes away from me, so i was able to continue (i was fairly young, about 12, and i had to count on my father to get me there, who had a work schedule of his own and really dosen't believe in the martial arts. i love, respect, and admire him for doing that for me very much). what i found out later was that he actually offered free tuition to several of his students. everyone else who went to the verona school got the offer, as well as people who were having money issues. this eventually lead to a large lack of funds. the madison school got moved to a gym in a high school, where that was then discontined. i haven't heard from my sensei since or the school since. i assume it was shut down and he moved on. i love, admire, and respect him very much for that. there's another thread around here about idols. he's mine. sorry, didn't mean to make this so long, i guess there was more to the story than i thought. i even forgot what my point is. hopefully you can find it in my rant,
  17. i had some serious self confidence issues and was a very depressed little man. those are gone; however, as a lot of you seem to have also, i have a huge temper, which has gotten me into some skirmishes that i could have probably avoided. not that i've started any fights, but i still need to control my anger so that i can talk and walk (HA! i got a new term going!) outta fights instead of just going on through.
  18. it was an open work out, and my instructor was demonstrating a ssang jyel bang (nunchaku) form for me, and the bearing snapped when he was doing an over head strike and the handle flew straight in the wall right above the spectator chair luckily, not many people were there and the chair was empty sorry, i've never had the opportunity to use that one and i really wanted too... also, i ordered a new chang bang (staff) last night and my instructor was telling me this story about how he ordered a new staff and he took it out to try it out and i guess there was a knot in the center because he did this downward strike and before it even hit the ground it pulled apart and the other half flew across the room. i forget why he told me, something about refunds... whatever. i thought it was funny
  19. gosh mr. love, that was fairly spiteful! though in all fairness, i think that's the first time i've litterally burst out laughing on this forum
  20. "he'd better use a familiar name like "karate" or everyone's coming in ordering Chinese. " yeah, that's about right.
  21. well hey, if you ever do finish it, i'd be very interested in reading it. i have one, but i'm not very good at keeping up to date with it. i'll scribble some things into it every month or so, and then look back at it and realize i can barely read my own hand writing i should probably be a little bit better about that...
  22. well, as far as ki goes, i seem to share the same philosophy as martial girl. i believe people can do neat things, but i dunno how much that has to do with ki; going back to granmasterchen and his air currents and angles and his page turning and stuff (that's really cool, by the way). that's why i read these threads on ki, but rarely participate. i'm interested and would like to know more, but i really don't know enough to make a good opinion. i forget where i was going with this, so i'll leave it here
