I think if I could go back and change anything about my health decisions from the past, the first thing would be to drink a lot less alcohol. Not only is it bad for your health to consume large amounts, but it gets expensive, especially if you are ordering it in bars or nightclubs. Several possible long-term health effects of prolonged excessive drinking are liver damage, stroke, high blood pressure, stomach cancer, and higher risk for diabetes. In the short term - the hangover is enough for me to quit. The older I get the longer it takes to recover. Any enjoyment I get from drinking tonight will become regret when I am hung over tomorrow.

The NHL final four is set. NY Rangers vs Florida and Dallas vs Edmonton.

Oilers win 5-1, force a game 7 that will be Monday night on ESPN.

Dallas wins 2-1 in double overtime to advance, Florida defeated Boston by the same score in game six and moves on. Dallas and Florida return to the NHL final four as both made it last year.

Rangers advance, Vancouver wins to take a 3-2 series lead of Edmonton. Two potential closeout games on Friday as Florida tries to move past Boston and Dallas tries to win against Colorado. Both games are on TNT and TRUTV if you are looking to watch either of them.

Johnny Cash - I've Been Everywhere

Colorado stays alive winning 5-3, Dallas has a 3-2 lead in the series. They play game six on Friday. Two games on Thursday, Rangers @ Carolina, Edmonton @ Vancouver. Both games are available to watch on TNT as well as TRUTV.

NFL Schedule has been released. Regular season starts Thursday September 5, Ravens at Chiefs. Sunday night opener is Rams @ Lions and the MNF opener is Jets @ 49ers. I guess the NFL wants to retry having Rodgers open the season on Monday night. Thanksgiving games are Bears at Lions, Giants vs Cowboys, Dolphins at Packers Two games on Christmas Day, Chiefs @ Steelers and Ravens @ Texans.

It was one week ago today, at this time (3:00am central) that I was telling myself never to touch alcohol again. I had a big day coming up and wanted to get a full night of sleep, I got about two hours of that drunk sleep which is possibly the most ineffective sleep there is. I can honestly say (as I am sure I have at least a half dozen times after nights like that one) I have no desire to drink ever again. I appreciate the support. One of the tougher things of quitting drinking is the social aspect. There is so much pressure and celebration of drinking in our culture as it is advertised everywhere I look. There are many problems with excessive drinking, not the least of which are sleeping issues. I'm going to bed.

Boston wins against Florida, still trail in the series 3-2. Edmonton wins against Vancouver to even that series 2-2. Dallas and Colorado play Wednesday night. It is on ESPN at 8pm eastern time if you'd like to watch it.

Florida wins against Boston, takes a 3-1 lead in the series, Vancouver wins in Edmonton and takes a 2-1 series lead. Game 5 of NY/CAR and game 4 of DAL/COL are both on Monday and both air on ESPN.

Kid Rock - Run Off to LA

Carolina avoids the sweep by beating the Rangers and giving NY their first loss of the postseason. Dallas wins game three in Colorado, 4-1, and takes a 2-1 lead in the series. Two games on Sunday, Florida @ Boston and Vancouver @ Edmonton.

Toronto has fired head coach Sheldon Keefe after the Leafs first round exit. Winnipeg coach Rick Bowness has retired. The Jets were better this season and back in early January were the top team in the league, however they end the season the way they ended it last year, winning game one then losing four in a row to be eliminated in the first round. It was a disappointing finish to what was otherwise a decent season for Winnipeg.
