yeah thats right, capoeira is a form of dance, it cant really be used much for self-defence (the hole point is actually to pretend to hit each other with elegance and form) although it does get you fit and acrobatic.

Did u know that capoeira was the martial art that Wesley Snipes studied.

What are the best ways to improve ur posture? I find that I slouch quite abit with my back bent. This is a very common problem, and u'll find that most ppl dont have a proper posture. A good posture is back straight, chest out and shoulders down and relaxed. Stand in front of a mirror and attain this posture, u'll probably find this feels unatural, but infact its how u should be standing. Standing in a good posture makes u look much fitter and more confident and also is excellent for ur back and will help prevent back problems in later life. Other than remembering to hold a good posture as u go about ur life are there any exercises that will help to improve it? I think having a good posture is very improtant throughout life, for fitness but also for generally leaving a good first impression on ppl. U look at any sportsman or athlete and u'll find they have an excellent posture, with there backs straight, there shoulders relaxed and there chest out, its an excellent sign of fitness. Can anyone help plz?

Aefibird, I got those chatup lines from a website, they were under best chatup-lines. There was also a list of worst chat-up lines and "get your coat, u've pulled" was on there! Its abit of a cheeky one really, but it may work now and again, if the person really likes you.

Isn't Ticky Donovan the Ex-England team coach?

Clan? its not somthing i've ever came across in martial arts. Usually a clan is a large group of people who are all bound/related with the same name or ancestors. So i'm guessing it means families of ppl in which the martial art has been passed down through the years, maybe the desendants of a martial arts founder or grandmaster.

Personally I would do pressups every day. Have a look at this thread, and check out the link on it. Its an excellent martial arts training program, and it says to keep goin till muscle failure, ie. untill u cant go on anymore. Give it a read. http://www.karateforums.com/viewtopic.php?t=12886

Well i'm supposed to be workin' that weekend, I doubt I could get time off. It's a pitty that I didnt see it eariler on in the year . Anyway, tell us how it go's, and take a camera with u, so we can see some pics! -
I think its better to have a target amount when doing my calsinthetics, that way I have to reach it no matter what. Working to failure doesnt really mean on a physically level but on a mental level, its all about willpower and if u can push it that little bit more, if ur tired or not in the mood, ur reps will greatly reduce because u simply cant be bothered.

U've got to remeber to watch their eyes too, they can tell alot.

Unfortunatly guys its too late. Karate is to be entered into the 2008 olympics, the board is set for karates downfall, lets hope that it turns out OK, u never know.

I recently discovered the existance of dynamic stretching, and i've found that it is crucial for any martial artist, especially for their training, because it reaches your full range of movement and gives you the ability of still kicking high without a warmup. It is also the fastest way towards doing the splits. If you dont know what dynamic stretching is, here is an extract from an article I found: "Have you ever swung your arms round in circles just before you start a weights session? This is dynamic stretching. It gradually increases reach and range of motion while limbs are moving. Kicking an imaginary football is a dynamic stretch for the hamstrings and groins. Twisting side to side is dynamic stretching for the trunk. Don't confuse dynamic stretching with ballistic stretching... Ballistic stretching consists of bouncing, jerky movements and can be quite dangerous because it forces a limb beyond its normal range of movement. Dynamic stretching is useful before starting an aerobic workout and particularly for martial artists. Thomas Kurtz also recommends dynamic stretching as a great way to loosen up first thing in the morning. Perform dynamic stretches in sets of 8-12 repetitions. Perform as many sets as is required to gain your full range of motion. Stop stretching when you are tired. Fatigued muscles produce diminished returns during dynamic stretching exercises." Anyway back to the point, does anyone know any good dynamic strength exercises or any good websites?

overall best korean martial art
Rich_2k3 replied to JLee's topic in TKD, TSD, Hapkido, and Korean Martial Arts
I know i'm gonna get stonned for saying this, but I think that Hapkido does overtake Aikido for self defence. Hapkido is a combination of many styles to create a "complete style". It has borrowed techniques from aikido, but has left some behind that were not effective in terms of self defence, or where other techniques could be used in the same situation but with better efficentcy. The process of createing Hapkido is similar to Jeet Kune do, where technques were borrwoed from other arts, to create the "Ultimate art", if this was achieved, I dont know. Jeet Kune do has gone a step further and filtered aout even more techniques from many styles in which hapkido is included, which was supposed to be a "complete art". Spooky has a very vaild point, It really does depend on what you like and what you are good at. If u hate kicking then TKD isnt gonna be a good choice, if you hate punching then boxing isnt gonna be a good choice, if u hate grappling then BJJ isnt gonna be a good choice etc. One person might be able to defend them self better with somthing else, and vice versa. It also depends on what u want from ur martial art. Aikido is about stopping your opponent but with minimal effort and no permant damage to ur opponent. U look at karate and its about stopping ur opponent for good, real okinwana karate makes sure that ur opponent never gets up again. But is that good in 2days world? or is that what u want? Aikido and hapkido do not need much physically strength, because they rely on focusing ur energy in the direction of ur opponents movement, most of the time in other arts its about going agaisnt ur opponents movement which obviously requires more energy. Try this website, there is almost any martial art u could think of on there, have a look at what there is and decide whats best for you. If u want pure self defence I would suggest looking at: Jeet Kune do Hapkido Krav maga Wing Chun Kung fu http://www.martial-arts-info.com/
