Good and bad of your style.
Rich_2k3 replied to doubletwist's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
There are always pro's and con's, no style is perfect. For example take a style like Krav Maga; probably the best style around for self defence but has no sporting aspect, pro and con. I hate it when ppl say their style is perfect, perfection is well over-used! -

Useful bodyweight exercises to do at home?
Rich_2k3 replied to BritNoob's topic in Health and Fitness
I know I keep bombarding you with websites but I would really check this one out. Reebok do some real high quality fitness gear, and they come free with the Reebok university training programs, real good stuff. Check out the strength section u'll find some of those bands that Little Dragon mentioned (resistance tubes). I've got one myself, great for upper body workouts, check out the Iron wear too. http://www.reebokstore.co.uk/stores/reebok/fitness/default.aspx -

Try dynamic stretching, heres a good link for some to do: http://www.brianmac.demon.co.uk/dynamic.htm Belows an overview of dynamic stretching (found quote on a website somewhere): "Have you ever swung your arms round in circles just before you start a weights session? This is dynamic stretching. It gradually increases reach and range of motion while limbs are moving. Kicking an imaginary football is a dynamic stretch for the hamstrings and groins. Twisting side to side is dynamic stretching for the trunk. Don't confuse dynamic stretching with ballistic stretching... Ballistic stretching consists of bouncing, jerky movements and can be quite dangerous because it forces a limb beyond its normal range of movement. Dynamic stretching is useful before starting an aerobic workout and particularly for martial artists. Thomas Kurtz also recommends dynamic stretching as a great way to loosen up first thing in the morning. Perform dynamic stretches in sets of 8-12 repetitions. Perform as many sets as is required to gain your full range of motion. Stop stretching when you are tired. Fatigued muscles produce diminished returns during dynamic stretching exercises." Hope this helps. -

Yes Krav Maga could be classed as the most effective style out there. Its a quick to learn, very effective, no-nonsense style. The kind of thing thats taught to police and special forces. -
You dont need to train in them to know about them...
