  1. The instep is easier to kick with yes, but the kicking with the ball fo the foot has distinct benefits. Kicks with the ball of the foot are more powerful. The same amount of force as a kick with the instep, and a smaller striking surface = more damage to opponent. You may also consider kicking with your shins.
  2. THat IS an option, but tends to get competitors disqualified in "semi contact" tournaments (which i think are wel....i wont' go there). I round kicked a guy in the jaw pretty hard last saturday in a semi contact tourney and was disqualified. The guy was a blackbelt, and i am a 4th kyu.....it was sad. Oh well you know what they say lots of tournament competitors have no MARTIAL skill anyway. BTW i'm not a tournament martial artist. I train for contact and not sport karate.
  3. yeah.....some girls like a guy that can defend them, and it helps that MA's get u into good shape.
