What exactly is a reverse blade sword?
King of Fighters replied to KaratekaAikidoist's topic in Martial Arts Weapons
A reverse sword blade is a katana that has the sharp edge on normally what would be the dull side and the dull edge on which would be normally the sharp side. It puts the sharp part dull so the person wouldnt kill the person he is attacking, but in case he needs a sharp edge for an emergency he can always turn it around, alothough then his technique wouldnt be as good. Rurouni Kenshin is a really good anime. I personally like the oavs better than the episodes though because they take place in the revolution before kenshin vowed not to kill. Oh, and saito is one of the coolest bad guys ever. -
I was just wondering how effective traditional juijutsu is in street fighting. Does it have strikes such as punches, kicks, knees or elbows? Does it have pressure points, chokes or armbars? How good would a juijutsu fighter be able to do against a wing chun or hung gar student in an all out fight? Answers to any of these questions would be very much appriciated.

Deadly and dangerous strikes
King of Fighters replied to Nickgarren's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
The best deadly strike is a punch to the throat. It doesnt matter how tough you are, if you get punched there, chances are you wont get back up. -
Wushu
King of Fighters replied to Bratt's topic in Kung Fu, JKD, Wing Chun, Tai Chi, and Chinese Martial Arts
Training on your own from a book, video, or website in any martial art isnt a good idea, and i dont suggest doing it. You should take another martial that is in your area, and then maybe get a wushu book and learn a few extra techniques but you can never become good from just training from an instruction manual. -
I know that once you have learnt a martial art that you keep on doing it and keep getting better but when i say to master i mean to achieve the highest rank. and wingchun, my friend said that his master had been training in hung gar for 30 years and is at the second highest rank of black sash there is (and i think theres 10).
-
My friend who takes hun gar sais that to recieve the highest black shash degree and to master the style it takes about 25 to 30 years?!?!? Is this true? I know that most styles of martial arts take anywhere from 8-14 years on average to master but 25 to 30!! by the time you were ready to start training in another art you would be like in your 40s. I think thats pretty crazy!!!

Thoughts on contracts
King of Fighters replied to GreenDragon's topic in Instructors and School Owners
No offence, but I smell a bit of cheese in his system (i know thats kind of a lame way to say but, what the hell). Contracts arnt nessesarly a bad thing, but the whole, 2 years red belt, 3 years black belt i think is trying to say that he sells belts. Not everyone is ready in that amount of time, and he schold be teaching everyone at thier own pace. Also, the price thing makes it sound like he wants you to stay for a longer period of time so he have more of your money, so he slightly lowers the cost of the membership for people who wish to have the longer contract. -
I know, this one is old, look, the last time somebody put a post was in 2001!!!! But i would just like to say the benny "the jet (what a lame nickname) urquidez is a huge fake!! He claimed to have " beat muay thai fighters frequently" but in reality i dont think that he even faught more 1 in an official match. There were 1 or 2 times where he beat thai fighters under american kickboxing rules (which limits knees, grappling, elbows, and low kicks, so is it even muay thai then?). But when many thai fighters invited him to fight in bankok under muay thai rules, he always rejected or never showed up. He also rejected to fight some great thai fighters under american rules because he didnt think that he could win. So my point is benny "the fag" is nothing but a fake, a poser, and somebody who is insecure with his style (if he wasnt he wouldnt have demoted muay thai to make kickboxing look better). I hope you all know how much he sucks!!!!!!!!

how many years of expierence should an instructor have? How much do you all pay a month for your martial arts? (also put what country your from so il know if your couency is worth about the same as ours), and how many styles can a school teach before it becomes a mcdojo?

Sparring methods for combative arts.
King of Fighters replied to JerryLove's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
We usually do light sparring, or heavy sparring with all the equiptment and pads on. -
Personally, i dont think that it would be very effictive in a street fight. I consider it more of a dance and exercise than a martial art. The attacks are more for show i think, but hey, you could really impress people at a club, dance or party doing some of those awesome breakdancing kinda crazy spinning on your head kicks kinda like what eddy gordo from tekken 3 did.

help chosing a martial art
King of Fighters replied to King of Fighters's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
jmy77, there is no kempo is my city, if you look on the other page you'll see what we have. That might work by doing that saifighsMS, but its still like $625 for a year and i used to take judo which was only like $140 a year for the same amount of time and my parents think i should take a martial art taught by a non profit organisation so it wouldnt be so expensive. I have seen some pretty good solutions, thanks guys, and if anyone comes up with more ideas, let me know. -
help chosing a martial art
King of Fighters replied to King of Fighters's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
Im only 14, i cant really get a job, and its like over 600 for a year. This is back to paolung, I would like something like muay thai because i have been taking it. but it would also be nice to take style of kung fu (like wing chun or jeet kune do) because kung fu is effiective, street proven, it builds fast reflexes, it teaches all sorts of types of attacks, and builds good self defence skills, and theres weapons. And i like how it teaches all sorts pressure points and joint locks. -

help chosing a martial art
King of Fighters replied to King of Fighters's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
Thanks for your help GreenDragon. kickboxing sounds ok but im not sure if i want to take it though because it would be like taking a step backwards from muay thai because there are no knees, elbows, low kicks or grappling. Also its not so much that i didnt like the grappling aspect of judo, its just that i didnt like how it was more tournament based, and when i tried to use it in real fights it never seemed to work, and i didnt like it because there were no strikes. Your right, i dont like forms and katas and that kind of stuff, but i still like kung fu because it is very effeictive for the street. -
help chosing a martial art
King of Fighters replied to King of Fighters's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
sorry, i didnt mean to make it hard to understand. here are the different styles at each schools. there is 1 school that teaches kobodu, tai chi, karate and traditional juijutsu. im pretty sure all the arts are taught by different instructors. 1 school that teaches karate, brazilian juijutsu and kickboxing. 1 school that teaches a tae kwon do and hapkido mixture, and ki kong ho hup (korean tai chi). i think the tae kwon do/hapkido school focuses more on tae kwon do and tournaments than self defence and hapkido, because i know someone who goes there and i watched a class. 1 gym that teaches boxing. and like 4 other dojos that teach karate. and i think there may be a place that teaches aikido. I dont know what styles of karate and jui jutsu are taught at each place, and i dont know if the schools that teach several martial arts have different instructors.
