like i told him: ive known it for a while, the awards people are just now figureing out who's the best. so no one has heard of Master Little? or at least no one who has arived yet..... i feel i know so little about him. at times he seems so local, but then he knows so much, more than a lot of sensai's i have meat from a lot of DOJo's. and i think he may have been part of some big tournament at one time, before he decided tournaments were games of tag and semi went against them. i dont even know his rank, he wears the red and white striped instructors belt to conceal it from us, he never said thats why he did it. but i know him, and i know better than to ask. im just dyeing for information, and i would LOVE to see him kumite, not against a student but one of his level. I want to se him in real action, unfortunatley though he is taking us i dont think he plans to compete in the IHOF tournamnet in Gatlinburg this august.

Any competitors here?

yea, id agree, i wish i could but my sensai has this problem with tournaments, he dosent really belive in them and this is one of the few we get to go to. Just the same, a title is a title, and it is a HUGE tournament. I figure i prove myself in my own style by eventually winning th Isshinryu Hall of Fame grand championship for kumite as a shodan, move on to prove myself as a martial artist against the other forms of karate in my nation by competeing in Florida at the ISKA, and then once that tiel is won, ill prove myself as among the best in the world at K-1. along the way between these three big events, ill do a lot of smaller ones, mixed as well as isshinryu-only, contact and point based, so i get well rounded. the good thing about first heading to a point and then latter, a contact, is that the point will let me develop form in my kumite. I found a secret weapon i use in training that is really helping my power out, i just want to make sure i can ablance it with form and speed. -
Gracie winning that tournament out matched and out numbered by other styles proves my point that nothing is impossible. but ithink through our debateing we hae actually reached a somewhat level ground (wow! thats rare!) but i must stick to what i have said, if you want to study BJJ because you have an intrest in its theory and style, more power to you, i have nothing but respect for the style. but if you want to study it because your giving up on finding away around this problem using your own styles concepts than i call you a traitor. There is a way! I am trying to work with sevral of you from diffrent karate forms now (particularly Isshinryu, Shotokan and wado-ryu) to find away around this problem.

from a kyu stand point as an issinryu student, shodan to me represents moving out of simply learning an art and moving in to try and master it. as well as to improve, not just yourself, but the art, the martial arts community, and the world as well. at shodan, you are not even half way, there is still much to learn, but at shodan you dont just take any more, you give back.

I now own it on dvd and watch it like once or twice a week, evertime i find something new. i want to find the creator whose last name i can not spell and personnaly thank him for greatly improveing my life by making this movie! did any one else like it?

i dont mean to brag...wait a second yes i do...but my sensai just won an award for the Master Instructor of the year for Isshinryu karate. I was just wandering, because i see a lot of people posting stuff about great quality teachers they know of in the United states (espicially people like Hobbitbob, i think TJS, andrewGreen, Rich) and i was just wandering if Master steven Little was on that list any were? any of you guys ever heard of him?
-

i will be a competitor soon, my carrear daybeau will be at the IHOF tournament on august 1st-2nd. im going for the title of Super Junior boys begginer champion. i know, not a very impressive title, but any title is a start1 just the first step towards my ultimate goal: K-1 heavy weight champion of the world! of course..ill umm...need to gain some weight first...but ill make it! -
Olympics?
fireka replied to aes's topic in MMA, Muay Thai, Kickboxing, Boxing, and Competitive Fighting
dont sweat it to much though. in my opinion, olympics would be a waste of your daughters skills, there are much more respectable sporting events to compete in (IMO) has she considered the ISKA? or is she already involved in it? -
holy kata! did somebody just try and tear my message limb from limb and destroy it pice by bitter pice...without even using the word 'glittering generality'....look at how over taken i was, i dont stand a chance, i mean geez! i just said glittering generality was one word! the problem with this statment is that it is exactlly the kind of hype i want martial artist of every style to ignore. there is one scentence TJS you did not pull, the fact that martial arts will show you that no task is immpossible. Ladies and Getelman can we please forget the hype, forget the statisticts, and focus. as a tae-kwon-do studied, i had really hoped you would have been a little more willing to take a stand your self, since your style, while just as equall as far as having both advantages and disadvantages, is the blunt of more jokes than even shotokan. (by the way what does the akronym KM stand for) the reason i ask this is because based on your post i was almost ABSOLUTELY certain you were a BJJ student attempting to defend your styles integrity. I was wrong of course, i guess no ones perfect. people are not a statistic. and martial arts are all about people. so focus! lets see what we can do within our own styles to penetrate this weakness. learning to grapple, no not the answer, because what i said was lets look at the principles our stlyes teach. a form of grappling yes, but surcomeing into the same darned old thing is a weakness because what if somethingsomeday comes a long that really can beat BJJ, then your up creek with out a paddle arnt you? because not only do they have the game over karate, but that second style you studdied, not out of intrest but lack of faith, as well.

im not claiming to be invincible, the gracie brothers are. And nothing ever happens without people who say, its time to go. forgive me, again i am a hipocrit for claiming to be a budo ka, but patince is a sorry virtue. i like courage alot more. All i am saying is, is that fine, karate has a natural problem dealing with grapplers. thats okay, we have a lot of good things other people dont. but now that we have regonized a problem, instead of mopeing about how some little grand master's brats can mop the floor with us, we need to look at the theroy behind our styles and see what we can add, adjust, or remove, to fix the problem .
-
so, the gracies call themselves martial artist, yet there so cocky they belive them selves to be invincible? thats just fine, so am i! I do not doubt there have been many victories in the past, and i do not doubt that BJJ is a good art that has amny advantages. However, style really dosent matter in the end does it? all forms of martial arts are merely diffrent roads to the same destiniation. allow me then, to meet the gracie brothers at our destenation and defeat them, both at once, if that is what it takes. Beer-monster hit the nail on the head. blood sweat and tears, you'll get nothing less from me. But i dont think i have to be the one to do it. sure, if you all would like me to, just rember my name, i can make history for you. But what i am claiming is that even a shotokan practioner can beat them. The one thing martial arts has shown me is that no task is immposible, this is my philosophy about all things. not to mention, lets look at simple trends. there was a time when wu-shu and kung-fu were considered elite invincible arts. will, that died off with enter the dragon, so now BJJ gets its 15 minutes of fame. enjoy it. because it will soon be karate's turn. If there is a problem, ladies and gentelman, with our style against grapplers, than i suggest we stop moping, get off our lazy hides and fix it. A wing chun artist once told me that i should try looking at the core of the style and not as much the technique, the techniques are important, but if you look at the theroy, and apply it to the situation, a formula can be devised to defeat anything.........SO WHAT ARE YA LOOKING AT LETS GO!
-
i saw a post earlier that said karate wont work well if you are attacked from behind...what could i say to this....YEA IT WILL! and anyways, how are karateka's of all people going to say that just because BJJ fighters have defeated shotokan a few times that there is NO shotokan ka that can take the heat. even boxers know that style dominance changes all the time. i personnaly, as an isshinryu student, am not impressed by Brazilian Ju-Jitsu. i would love to enter a match with a practitoner of the style and allow them the chance to 'impress me'. i dont sweat a coup,e of cute little lacey tiitles. shotokan practioners, you should sweat them either. im telling you, if you will ignore the hype there making and just train hard and do your best youll find these guys arnt gods, take them down and place Master Funakushi's name once again among the greatest founders of the world.

Fighting Games

no your not! do you mean ultimate battle 22? wos your character on it? -
im not sure who posted it, nor will i waste my time by clicking back to check, but that think about jutsu suffix vs. do...what the heck! do simply means 'the way of' it has nothing at all to do with the sport. i was going to just be a referee..but come on...oh and to clarifiy, strictly karate, otherwise i would have put this in style comparrison. and karate is very effective on the street so ehwww!

the idea that the martial arts can not, and should not, be adapted for both defense as well as sport is not only ridiculus, but futial. its to late for such a fight. every year the popularity of competetions grow, competetive fighters are rising to the elite among the noticed sports stars, more power to them. i have heard over and over to the point of vomiting about how traditional styles should not be used for sport. i love being traditional, but i also understand that the martial arts are still growing. an excellent example of this is the creation of the nunchuku, a 20th century weapon despite contrary beliefe. the nunchuku would be about as familiar to a ninja as a labtop. But the fact is the concept of the nunchucku is traditional and effective weapon when used properly. dont be narrow minded (speaking to no one in paticular) the martial arts were create to be adapted to the needs of the user, weather that was individual protection or use in an army setting. well, now we have shown the need for karate as a sport. yes, a need. i also dont belive this is a completely new concept. All stlyes now should be learning this new method of using there art, including shotokan. (geez, my sensai would kill me if he saw this post!)
-
this is foolish. until someone here goes up and fights your not going to know either way. I say you shotokan fighters show up or shut up. i mean that respectfully to, i think shotokan style deserves the same respect as all the other styles. one of you needs to prove the jokers calling all your schools 'mcdojo's' wrong by competeing and winning.
-
everyone, its the moment youv'e been waiting for! ive wanted to post this for a long time. Lets watch now as these two nations go head to head in the debate to end all debates (or, more likely, to string like, thirty new ones!) who do you think is more effective in tournament, defense, ground tactics, stance, power, speed, ect. ect. The world influenced, survivalist motivated Island styleings of Okinawa, or the hard hitting, competetive, fighting styles of the Japanese mainlands! you be the judge! all styles, final set, ready go!
-
andrew, how can you base the usefulness of a style strictly on the fact that it has frauds. there were frugulent popes and priest who did evil things but to claim that catholic are evil would be wrong. Yes, there are Mcdojo's but i can guarantee you there are some solid Shotokan schools out there. Although i am on a quest to prove myself among the elite, i hope that shotokan someday soon finds its name among the best in the world, there are plenty of examples of were shotokan has succesfully deffended against an attacker, we are all Karate-ka's and should be supportive of one anothers style. And if shotokan_karate0 statemtn was invalid, fine, i join him in his ignorance. Shotokan works!
-
if shotokan is so usaless even in its own practioners opinion why is it studied so widely? please, you guys must have more faith in your style than that! i studied shotokan for a while, ill admit there was little ground work, but from what i saw, the idea was never to end up on the ground in the first place. from what you all know, would a fairly well seasoned fighter of Isshinryu style stand a shoot in the K-1?

okay video game fans. lets talk fighting games. suprisingly enough, despite RPG's renound tendincy to attract the intellegent and character influenced players, fighting games tend to stir up more intense discussion on plot. most people who play fighting games have three things they put into there favorites list. first, of course, is there favorite game series. second being one game from that series that they like the best and the third being that one special character who, we dont always enjoy playing just because of there fighting skill, or there special moves, but because of the characters attitudes and personalities as well. what is all of yours? My favorite series is definitly STREET FIGHTER. I love it because ive kinda always wished the real world worked like the street Fighter world, were everyone rushes home to see the martial arts tournaments, there the highlight of the day, and professional fighters come from diverse backgrounds and style sto live a life of world travel and intrigue as they go from adventure to adventure. Im totaly stuck on Street Fighter alpha 3, its just cool. and my favorite character, definitly sakura. Ive always thought it was pretty cool, for some reason when small women defeat large guys (like say, sakura versus Zangief) it just goes to show what real skill can do against any dilema. i also just love her attitude toward fighting, she beats the crap out of random people and maintains perfect innocence!
