  1. i think that if the student, parent, and instructor talk it through and agree not to get a junior black belt then it is fine. there is a girl at my school who just turned 7 and she is a black belt and a very good one at that!
  2. anzie- who is that kid?
  3. i also would like to go to korea for a few weeks when i get older, not now. just to see how the do things over there. i like to get into tournaments and have a lot of fun!
  4. totally. you need flexibility. i have pretty good flexibility but i am not totally comfortable kicking that high so i practice it in class. that also might help you. and i agree with the bag work. it should help!
  5. i love tournament fighting, or sparring. i think that it does not contradict the fact that martial artists are not supposed to used their physical aspect unless needed. do you fight in class? do you do self defense in class? it is different in a tournament because you are fighting someone with around the same general skills. i think tournaments are a great place to see how you have come along and to show you how well you do against people of your same ranking.
  6. i think it is possible, but it is very hard to get them. women usually get the line down the middle and things before guys though.
  7. no, i haven't had to do that yet. if i ever get in a situation where i need to defend myself or someone else, then i will use my skills. but i am glad that i haven't had to!
  8. i would be p!ssed if guys wouldn't spar me. it's not the same as hitting a girl at all. i learn a lot from the guys at my school and sometimes when we spar i'm the only girl there except my instructor, and that is unfair to the girls, i think.
  9. it could be applied, but personally, i wouldn't do it. 5 to 6 hours a day is a lot. i mean, you would have to train on your own a lot unless your school(dojo) was open that much a day. so, if you want to be a top fighter and think that would help, then you will have to dedicate a lot of effort and time.
  10. welcome
  11. welcome. i want to marry a black belt too!
  12. welcome!
  13. no, i almost did that once. i almost said the wrong name but i didn't. in most of the tournaments that we have go to we don't have to introduce our forms.
  14. start training for endurance. running miles will help. also kick the bag for like 1:30 as hard and as fast as you can with out stopping. stay light on your feet and just keep working on endurance.
  15. hey, welcome!
  16. ouch. that sucks when people fail. i feel bad for them esp. if they just forgot b/c of being on the spot. i have never been to a test where someone has failed, but that would suck.
  17. everyone knows about me being in tkd pretty much. like my family and friends. but what really makes em mad is that some of my family members don't take it seriously!
  18. hello!
  19. have a lot of fun and don't be too serious for a while. also, be yourself and defiantely don't act like anyone else!
  20. i had an option, but not a big one. there was tae kwon do, which i am in. and then there was a karate place. i am very glad i am at the place i am at though.
  21. i started at 14 and i am now 15
  22. our school does bat-sai
  23. lol. everyone in my school tends to date each other. most of them met at the school and some of them have met before starting tkd. everyone jokes about it being the IAMA dating service. IAMA stands for Indiana Academy of Martial Arts.
  24. i am a green belt(6th gup) in tae kwon do.
