  1. I like this art and yes it is very legitimate one however it also depens on the teacher, remember the movie the one when jet li is walking in a circle and punching the walls in the jail well thats the same style he was doing what they call meditation in movement.
  2. Chi/Ki Do u beleive in it yes or no and why its important to the proper growth of a MA? THNX CIAO
  3. welcome
  4. Welcome &goodluck
  5. Welcome friend
  6. I agree with u all but listen to this story, there was a test between two MA's about the most benefits from training the two men were given a test by pressing his finger on a board using strenght then another man did the same only he did not use force but thought in his mind he was getting stronger, the results: the man that pressed with force increase muscle strenght by about 50% but the other man increased muscle strenght by 25%, so what do u think now If we traing hard physically while continuing to challenge our minds then we should have a ruff 75% increase because of mental and physical harmony Thats just in numbers though so what will u do now GOODLUCK AD HAVE FUN TRAINING!
  7. Most of what is not intierly correct, a human is much more than a slap of dead weight, humans can yield to an att, my friends ninjitsu teacher can take a sever punch fullpower! by four more than large men to the neck And suffers no damage "We must not limit ourselfs to our pre-conceived fixed notions"-TRUTH- "Boards don't hit back" -Bruce Lee-
  8. My friend there are those that can fight and those that can teach if he is a BB he should be qualified however we must inspect the ranking and advancement system aswell.Srry to kinda go off topic I find in the MA's world some of us have led ourselfs to beleive that if i learn a technique that can really hurt tthis guy then hes finished ...not totaly coorect..bruce's observation of the MA's classical mess is very intriging and he was surely ahead of is time, to fortify this there is a saying quote "Knowledge without skill is useless but skill without knowledge is just a waste of time"
  9. I understand ur point but kinda disagree if im reading what u mean correctly. MA's IMO is souly of self development if u increase ur mind ur body will just follow(with proper training ofcourse) however i do agree with the confidence view, i have found it has given me tremendous confidence in myself, there is a saying with great power comes great responsibility thus we learn how to fight so that we don't have to fight understand Its a philosophy that i have followed all my life in MA's as much as iam learning to pretty much kill an opponent the key is to make friends and most of all keep understanding and exceptance in the world but if that were true then there would be no war today.
  10. IMO the best way to increase speed physically is to train with weights I.E weight jackets, ankle and wrist weights for punching kicking runing ect... Train like that for awile then u will definetly c an improvement, sometimes after a day or two with them on and i take them off I go to take a sip of a drink or something and splash it in my face because i was so use to extra weight on me hahaha GOOD LUCK AND HAVE FUN TRAINING!!!
  11. Hey thnx alot guys for ur replies i really appreciate them, i agree with u all and wish u the best luck in ur MA' journey. KEEP TRAINING AND ALWAYS WORK HARD AT IT!
  12. Ok this might be a touchy subject but in your oppinions does one have to be a successfull competitor in MA's to be a good fighter on the street. I would appreciate it if everyone posting that this is open to only friendly discussion and that everyone should respect everyone elses oppinions please.
  13. Adrenaline is a natural reaction by our body increasing blood flow ect... it basicaly prepares us to run or to defend ourselfs like and animal would do however ur adrenaline can sometimes get the better of u causing u to make rash decisions especially in afight. I suggest u concentrate on calm of mind then adrenaline IMO i have found it to be much more practical in a real situation.
  14. Listen BJK First its good to wanna get better i respect that however u can injure urself by doing too much at once, at one point i was able to do 150 pushups straight ouch but by doing that i was damaging myself sure i can do alot but the lactid acids in ur muscles begin to eat away causing scar tissue which is not good. Do ur sit ups then go to push ups then squats or whatever ur doing then rotate u will get better results take my advice. Now i can only do about 70 pushups straight but then i go to my sit ups then squats then strecht back to pushups and ive been gettin great results, n e ways i wish u luck in ur training and always work hard at it!
  15. Vale tudo is more or less no holds bar fighting, like shootfighting very intense i like it. GOODLUCK KEEP TRAINING AND ALWAYS WORK HARD AT IT!
  16. I agree however i have found through my training that the combat effecient training is very rewarding when it comes to a real fight but i have also found the mind as being the most important tool. I was doing JKD religiously at one point and after class i would walk outside to find ppl walking more or less in slow motion(hard to explain). Its as if ur peace at mind helps u to see alot more clearly, whats funny is after one class i remember getting into a confrontation and it finished as quick as it started but i didnt remember a thing about the fight i just remember he agressed and thats it then he was on the floor and i was over him The guy was three times my height aswell, srry to go kinda off topic but i think through ur training that u should find that effectiveness does not come in the hands of the style more or less in your mind. I also agree with jerry dont try to train in every MA at once but i also disagree because it has given me IMO a broader view of MA's. Do what ur heart tells u and what u really wanna train for,competition,fighting,self-development ect..... Any advice i can give is to flow with change that envolves everything from life to MA, there is a Tai chi saying " The stiff branch will break in the wind but the blade of grass will yield and live to see another day" GOODLUCK KEEP TRAINING AND ALWAYS WORK HARD AT IT!
  17. Sure almost all my close friends are MA's anyways, its great having martial brothers and sisters hopefully we all can see this and soon the world would be a better place. "U can't change everyone for the better, start by working within a small community and soon it will spread like a wild fire of peace and understanding" -TRUTH-
  18. But i think it is a very good idea to cross train in similar arts however i have found crosstraining to totaly diff ones will give u a better overview of MA's. TSD and TKD are actually the same art,TKD derived from TSD because the name sounded too much like a chinese MA so the koreans changed the name to better fit a korean MA. SRRY to go off topic ciao and good luck in your search
  19. True jerry i like ur point thnx ill check it out ciao
  20. My father was a master in hop gar and white crane then received his fifth degree in kajukenbo when he brought it to canada, my sister does choylayfut and im carring on the tradition with kajukenbo and i study other MA aswell.
  21. Jerry said Thats not always true jerry i have been using my balisong for awhile now and have seen some pretty fast opening techs, thats is also why it is illegal in most coutries and states like jerry said because of the opening mechanism or ext + retrac. I can open a Balisong in less then a sec manually and im pretty much a beginer with it N e ways thnx for everybodies replies sometimes it takes a bit of understanding by the ppl who govern our countries to be able to understand this kind of dilemma KEEP TRAINING AND ALWAYS WORK HARD AT IT!
  22. Very true jerry my student also studies wing chun kuen and i find the same similarities u explained I too see aikido as an art of redirection and not overpowering, however i find WC in all its effectiveness lacks proper ranging even though ur opponent must be close to you, well thats IMO.
