I feel like falling down after doing any high kick and I think my main problem is losing my balance. My Sensei said it will improve with time. My question is: Is there any sort of exercise that help you to improve your balance and do all sorts of kicks while you are pretty stable on the floor ?! I am currently doing a weird exercise I am not sure if it might help or not .. I am trying to stand on one foot as long as I can (I can't do more than 20-30 seconds on each side) ?!!

Does that mean all the basic kicks and punches will not be effective because you are not new to receiving them ?!! IMO its effectiveness and degree of risk will depend mainly on your opponent and the right timing to do it !
-
Can I ask you why it's not a high risk ones ?!! because I think it's a high risk one as IMO (as a beginner) you can't expect where the kick is going to hit in most of his kicks !

Before I start Karate my main goals were to improve my fitness, getting myself tougher and self defense. But now after 2 months of training, I guess I can add to the above mentioned goals improving my mood (specially with work/life stresses) and get the highest rank I can

I found this video while browsing the youtube I loved the kicking technique (specially the first one) for legend 5 "Kenji Medori" so I decided to share it, may be someone find it interesting too

Very nice and difficult kicking techniques -
That's an amazing video ... As usual Hawkmoon, you share some of the best kyokushin related videos

My opinion is a McDojo is the dojo that is concerned only with money not the art they are teaching .. so they lock you in contracts, allow relatively young and not that experienced people to teach in order to open more dojos and collect more money, allows you to pass gradings & pay for your belts even if your performance was very poor. That's all IMO but moving through your rank quickly is not a clear sign of it, it will rely more on how many hours you train weekly and the grading requirements, so for me I have to train for 40 hours in order to be eligible for grading ! Quickness of ranking is a relative issue

I have found this article by "Shihan John Taylor" and I would like to share with you ... hope you like it and will be happy to discuss it together if anyone is interested http://www.kyokushinaustralia.com/2009/01/pressure-of-participating/ It's good for beginners with sparring

Osu, that's good, I thought it's all knock outs !! I am 31 years old wish to see you soon too in a tournament
-
Yes I agree with you and actually this is the most common in the street ... I will check with my Sensie this issue

I know they are pretty good ones but as you said it's very expensive I got a soft copy of Essential Karate from a friend. If I was you, I'd not let that out of my sight. I'd attach a GPS to that thing so I knew where it was at all times.

It's different from kyokushin ... Thanks for sharing Osu -
Osu Thanks for your post .. I am bit worried as I am new to karate (started training mid January) & it's good to know that it's normal feeling at the beginning of your journey I am planning to go to a tournament to watch everything live I have done only 2 sparring sessions till now and for this reason I am still bit confused with techniques and so no confidence yet. Just a simple question: Are all Kyokushin tournaments Knock-outs ?!!!

Head gears are not allowed in kuokushin
-
But that's actually common in tournaments ! check this video:

Just wondering if anyone (specially kyokushin practitioners) have any idea about how common the head injuries are in Kyokushin specially with kicks allowed to the head. I am actually bit worried about this as I have seen lately very tough knock-outs videos !! Am I a bit coward or that's normal ?! Anyone has the same or similar fears?! N.B: I am training karate for self defence, well-being and getting tougher, it's good to do so but without getting serious injuries !

The instructors in the first video are direct/first line students of Mas Oyama so you can say that this is the closest to the origin -

If you check the last one you will be 100% sure of that. Till now I can't imagine myself in a tournament and getting a kick in my head (with full force) and then who knows what will happen to everything inside it ! Such injuries are very serious ... not sure how they survive it ... but I still love this style and anyway it will take me ages to be able to compete in a tournament (in case I decided to do so)
