  1. I agree with you. The dojo I am training at doesn't accept kids younger than 5 as well.
  2. Thanks jaypo for your reply. It will be really interesting to discover which type I am. Being a new karateka, I guess I will tak a while till I discover !
  3. That's a good point to consider as well
  4. Thanks Alan, great advice. I can say that I am currently good at number 4 & working on number 1 ! The rest of the points will be in the plan
  5. I agree with sensei8 & Nidan melbourne, In our dojo it's always both even in kumite your higher grade partner might stop & show you how to block or correct a technique or .... etc
  6. I agree, that's really upsetting, You can immigrate to Australia then , here we have one of the best Medicare / Health system models I have ever seen ! I am so happy to hear that you are doing well with your exercising & HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO LINDA I hope you got her a nice present, otherwise you will end up on the couch anyway Thanks, Safroot!! I'd love to live in Australia; beautiful country!! To avoid the couch, I took Linda to Red Robin for dinner; it's a gourmet hamburger restaurant chain...got her a $100 Amazon Gift Card...Roses...a birthday card...a Star Wars cake [she's a die-hard fan]!! Nathan, our son, got her a nice birthday card and a very cool Wonder Woman coffee cup [she's also a die-hard fan]. Our daughter, Krystal, sent a nice birthday card [she's a University Student, with very little extra money] from Oklahoma, and I was surprised that the card arrived ON Linda's birthday...US Post Office still surprises me, to this day. All in all, Linda had a nice birthday. Good news...I avoided the couch!! Good to hear that you did it & avoided the couch
  7. I have had that comment (No need to be angry, being Angry puts you in a weak position while fighting) while sparring couple of times from my sensei. Tbh I don't feel I was but I just feel I want to hit my target really hard beacuse I got a hard hit, so it's sort of payback ! I am trying to do my best to control it now.
  8. Thanks Alan. Once I start reading about it, for sure I will have lots of questions to ask !

  10. When it's appropriate, and not any time sooner. There's no set time...there's no set age!! Each individual, in their own time, to their own talents!! As a parent, that's your given right to change schools anytime, and in that, the parent doesn't need to offer reasons to anyone. Out of the mouth of babes, and this is to include babes of the MA...allow time to do what it's the best at...TIME!! Just as in adults, each one learns at their own pace, none sooner or later than the other, but just at the right and exact moment that they're suppose to learn. Allow time to take time, and when the time is right, that AHA moment(s) will happen, when it's appropriate, and not before. Thanks Sensei8, as usual to the point reply
  11. Thanks Alan, I am not familiar with Chinese MA so it's first time for me to hear about Yin Yang punches but it's worth more reading about it. Distance & timing are important factors indeed & at this stage I am trying to know myself & adjust distance and timing accordingly.
  12. Great videos. Thanks for sharing LLLEARNER I was actually going to search for it tonight. You made my life easier
  13. Yes we are planning to start Gymanistics once she turns 5 as this is the minimum age they accept & I am pretty sure my daughter will love it. She is currently doing swimming (great progress for her age) & karate (little progress) !
  14. I agree, I think I really need to know myself at this stage & lucky me I have a really good Sensei & senior grade students who are helping me & pointing out any issue on spot which for me is great way to learn. I know it takes lots of time & practice & I am happy to wait, will never rush anything out
  15. Thanks LLLEARNER , I will try it
  16. That's a great idea but in my case myself is also a beginner ! and in a different style, I am doing Kyokushin & she is doing Shotokan and due to my lack of experience I don't think I will be even able to comment on her technique but at least I am working with her on basics now, like how to punch , how to kick, how to block, .....
  17. Same here Lllearner, I was just expecting little improvement but tbh never thought of the points you raised, I was focused more on basic techniques !
  18. I will try to have more patience. Let's wait & see
  19. Thanks Catlike for the advice, sure I will try that video tip
