  1. Do you think someone can change this mindset or not ?! so if you were raised in the way that Pressure is your enemy, can one day it be your ally
  2. Completely agree with you
  3. No worries
  4. To the bold type above... Why do YOU think that that is?? I think it's mainly because lower grades are still not able to fully control their kicking techniques, targets and force and to minimise the risk of injuries. for me it's also because I am not flexible enough to perform a kick that reach my opponent's head even if he is as tall as me still long way with stretching and training to be able to do it I am still a white belt with only 2 months training experience. What do you think the reason is ?!!!
  5. That's exactly right and that's why I liked his kicks
  6. Welcome to KF ... wish you enjoy it
  7. Thanks for advice ... It's always precious and very beneficial
  8. Solid post and to the point
  9. I totally agree with you and same here, I have started with less than ZERO level of fitness and overweight but now after only 2 months of training my fitness is heeps better and I have lost about 4kg.
  10. Solid post
  11. Sounds good ... I will try it in my next sparring sessions
  12. That's good experience ... How long did it take you (in training) to be able to apply karate techniques in self defence situations
  13. That seems like it would work. As long as you make sure to keep good form according to Kyokushin standards. I would add that after you get to the point in the video, to start throwing them faster and faster. This video is great for static balance, but static balance is a different beast than keeping balance during constant motion. In the end, I would suggest drilling it slow at first, kind of like the video (although I wouldn't hold it out there) so that you can practice good technique. Find that sweet spot for you and drill that while gradually moving faster and faster. Drilling away from the dojo is the best way to get the balance that you want. Zaine gives good advice here. I would doubly note how the individual makes certain to rechamber the kick, and not drop it down. Also notice how he doesn't lean over that much when kicking high. This comes from stretching. Don't lean to kick; if you kick high, your body will lean naturally. Zaine also makes another good point about maintaining balance in motion. This is called agility, and you should look into some agility drills to help you with this. Doing some bag work is a good start, as you have to maintain your balance when absorbing the contact that the kick makes with the bag. This will translate well to sparring. Finally, don't discount the advantage of having strong legs. Weighted squats (yes, weighted squats) are a great way to build strength in the legs, along with lunges. Your instructor is right, this will come with time. But, it doesn't mean you can't help it along, either. Thank you so much for you post I looked for agility drills and found these videos, are these drill what you are talking about ? http://www.kingsportstraining.com/blogs/training-blog/8269753-10-best-speed-and-agility-cone-drills http://www.martial-art-potential.com/agility-training.html
  14. Who is the legend that you liked his techniques more & why ?! Please exclude Mas Oyama because he will be the best ever
  15. Yes that's right but most probably sparring in the dojos are not with the full force like tournaments so the risk of head injuries is less. In my dojo for example lower grades are not allowed to do head kicks at all while sparring.
  16. I think he was saying here that they are above high risk. Sorry if got this wrong ... Thanks for clarification
  17. Basic kicks and punches are definitely effective regardless of what level you are. The thing with some of these kicks is that there is a little bit of telegraphing that goes into them. Even if you're very fast when you throw them there is always opportunity to counter and if you know what's coming the counter can be more dangerous than the kick you threw. So as you become known for throwing a certain kick or if you have had a certain kick thrown at you constantly you may be better able to counter effectively. Same with basics though, although it's a little easier to counter simply because at a BB level you've been on the receiving end of these techniques for your entire MA career, however, you don't put yourself in as much risk since you're not leaving the ground to do them (as an example). Still, awesome video! Thanks for sharing! Solid post and very nice and clear explanation that I really needed to know

I think I have to work on the static balance first then start on the motion one will be too much work for me but I am keen to do it
  19. I have found this video about drills to improve balance but not sure if this might work or not ? any ideas ? don't want to lose time and effort in something that might not help. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yq9Lzkc4v88
