  1. Okay I started doing pushups yesterday(inclined on a wall sense I have a little too much body wiehgt my muscle could lift) and although it was pretty hard, I don't think I worked my pectorials at all. They woren't even sore after I got done doing the pushups. Infact the only thing that did hurt was my shoulder, but it wasn't the muscles it was like a tendon or something. Anyone knw what I could be doing wrong?
  2. Alright cool. I'm not really trying to be one of those body builders who look like there dad din't hug them enough as a kid. I just want a little more endurance strength, and a little more muscle mass woudln't hurt. Yeah so anyway it's free too at school, so I'm gonna do it.
  3. All I really want to do is toughen my hands up. Tehy're not very hard and they're rather sensative, in order to do some of the blocks I'd need tough hands and forarms. That's why I wanted to know if I could learn this at my dojo.
  4. how about shudokan, is there one for shudokan sai?
  5. ^but I am going in the right direction?
  6. Is it fixxed now? http://www.tectonic.cjb.net/4view.jpg
  7. How many people recomend doing a little weight lifting to increase strength. I ask because I'm starting highschool next year and they have weight lifting as part of the phsycial education class, I figured it coudlnt' hurt. But am I right in that assumption?
  8. Well in case anyone wonders my full name is Kenneth James Brown on a form that would be Brown Kenneth James so i shorten that down to BKJ then I add my birthday december 16 and that makes BKJ1216
  9. The reason I ask is that I havne't started martial arts and I'm still somewhat browsing what I'd like to take. I just want to know if there is any valid points behind what these people are saying. i.e. karate is mainly kata and has nothing to do with self defense those kind of things that i've heard
  10. ok thanks
  11. So is shudokan karate hard or soft?
  12. Well I can't start karate until may 12 and that' is just so long to wait. Is there anything I can start doing now?
  13. I've seen many post today kind of bad mouthing karate. One of them list it as the least effective art for self defense. The other said that most karate students woudln't be able to defeat a jiu-jisu student. I won't mention who's post it is. But give me valid reasons why karate is not good. Or why it is inferior to the other arts.
  14. Why would you need kata to shoot a gun. Load, cock, aim fire.
  15. I heard these terms used on a tlc special I was watching. Basicly I want to know three things. 1. What are the princples of them. 2. Which is better? 3. Which one is shudokan karate.
  16. I'm not really looking for it for self defense but what do you all think of shudokan karate to defend youself ont he street.
  17. I really want to know what I shoudl do this for. I was thinking it was like the ki stuff in the martial arts where you can basicly be hit extremley hard but not really be damaged. That's mostly what I wanted it for so when I start my martial arts.
  18. I'm really worried more about endurance then actually losing weight. I have good cholesterol, and eatign a good diet would be good anyway. Anyway back to what I was going to say. There is was a japanese exchange student at our school a couple years ago. I think he studied the original owinawan karate right. Well anyway he took his gi to class to talke about it and everything. During lunch there was a bunch of kids hassling him about it, they're lucky they didn't touch him they probably would wound up in the hospital. That's why I don't want people to know I do karate. And why I was askign, because highschool kids are probably a lot worse.
  19. Oh I didn't bother reading it, I first saw it during the morning, and well yeah I am lazy during the morning.
  20. Hmmmm well this sucks, I read this entire thing and I only saw 2 people that favored karate. ANd one who didn't have too great of things to say about karate students. Hopefully shudokan karate is different.
  21. I don't know if it's good for what you want. I think you shoudl also look at shudokan.
  22. You should probably go down to all the dojos you have available in your area. When your talking to the instructor, take a punch at him. No actualy dont' do that. I think you should follow the advice of the people on this site and look into those arts.
  23. I think I"m going to enjoy sparring more than kata. I'll probably spend a lot of time at home practicing kata.
  24. Oh alright hanks you everyone
