This is the dojo I train at: http://www.gojuryubujutsu.com/ -
I was just doing Seiyunchin bunkai this past weekend. I will try to find some online. My teacher is a student of Higaonna Sensei. Goju Ryu in particular is very "sticky" - all about limb control and very close quarters. Lots of push hands and attacks from push hands.

Karate Problem
cheesefrysamurai replied to Wado Ryu Karate Student's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
Welcome to the forum. Please understand something. You CAN roundhouse kick. Just poorly, right??? Welcome to the martial arts! NONE OF US HAVE MASTERED ANYTHING. We strive to be better then we were yesterday and thats it. Some are gifted with great kicks, your strengths might be in other places but your kicks will come along - trust your sensei and trust yourself. Be patient. Put your hand on a wall, bring your leg up to chamber and throw 25 kicks a few times a day slowly, then try staying off the wall. Then hit a bag lightly for form. You need to build the muscles and the balance. BUT PLEASE DONT STRESS IT. We all have our struggles. Getting frustrated is normal. This is something you have to push through - it will set you apart from the rest and your kicks will be better then most peoples for it because you are spending the extra effort. GOOD LUCK -

Is judo too rough on the body?
cheesefrysamurai replied to Himokiri Karate's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
Injuries happen for sure. Yes, judo is pretty rough. 2 years ago I got thrown with hiza guruma and needed knee surgery. There are many factors in my opinion. In my experience some issues are 1. Playing with inexperienced players- they move with jerky movements with way too much power. They can't yet rely on technique so it's all muscle. Using muscle to oppose joints can be disastrous. They simply lack finesse and don't feel the "JU " 2. Not warming up properly. 3. Not having a complete understanding of the technique as both the attacker and receiver. I personally have backed off judo. Many people play a rougher Olympic style Judo. I plan to study ma for the rest of my life and judo seems a contradiction for me, and besides my knees aren't too great and I am pretty old - so I decided to choose my battles and focus on my karate do. -
Sanchin quite possibly. Endlessly complex.

First off welcome to the forum. Very nice tat and a great bass solo! Your form is interesting. Linear with lots of power strikes blended with soft movements. Great effort. I study a more traditional art, rigid in its structure but fluid in its form (in my opinion.) Try watching traditional kata for ideas. look at the bunkai for the kata as well so you will see the form and the application. Good Luck!

Martial arts inspired tattoos

any pics? I have none. I came close once in relation to a personal tragedy. I like the art and always sort of looking for that perfect idea -
These are all solid posts - and I agree. Thousands of people have tried to make these connections. Many books have been written on the subject. There simply is no real smoking gun anywhere. I know some senior Okinawan Sensei's went into China to research claims and stories but I'm not sure of the result.

Aiki Jiu jitsu and MMA
cheesefrysamurai replied to chrissyp's topic in BJJ, Judo, Jujitsu, Aikido, and Grappling Martial Arts
Well put! I know what you mean and I agree. And that's exactly the way I was instructed - maybe to a lesser degree but the same spirit. It's the application of physics, for ex. Your whole body doing a tight rotating cork screw vs your opponents wrist or shoulder. And Though you should have he control to stop way short of doing any damage in class, we were taught to disengage at a point but follow through. -

Sensei8 of course you would suited for mma, striking and tuite skills are essential for competitive or combatitive fighting. The only point I am trying to make is that aikijitsu is effective for current combat conditions though I would say that one preparing for the ufc could find more effective training methods as it is not designed for the goal of the tapout -

Nice answer tailgeese- well thought out. And I agree. In the parameters of mma - as you stated, I couldn't agree more. I more took that statement as being general which is my bad. It sounded General- sounded like broad statements -Regardless what i do not agree with is a statement regarding aikijitsu or jjj as being defunct because the conditions of the samurai are. Aikijitsu is combat effective- but not effective in MMA- and you nailed the reasons imo, and yes the floor gives you the base for the joint lock - but in aikijitsu it's more taking it all the way, instead of terminating at the tap, somebodies momentum or body weight is challenging the joint - you don't need the base because physics is tearing through the joint, the base is your opponents body not moving in a precise opposite way to not allow the joint to be compressed -

You are incorrect. Trust me- you are taught to defend single hand push, double hand push, lapel grab, double lapel grab, wrist grabs, double wrist grabs, all types of punches and kicks- bear hugs, hair grabs,,,, etc. this is a common misconception I have heard a lot coincidentally from people who take bjj. Usually it's part of an arguement that suggests that it's a prehistoric form of what the Gracie's perfected. In my experience this system can get pretty nasty, you try putting your hand on the collar to get your grip, you will not be a happy camper. Aiki jitsu will be helpful, show you how to find and be aware of joints and things of that nature. You have to keep in mind, it's not a competition. IMHO bjj has more in common with Judo. Just my 2 cents. -

This is a tid bit of tremendous wisdom. Training outside of the dojo is wonderful as long as it is properly done. Solid post ! I must completely agree- real training time is a gift. And there simply isn't enough time during class to train and learn.

I've already decided to give tbis a try actually. This place seems cool and the cheif instructor seems pretty legit. http://www.bournemouthkarateacademy.co.uk/instructors/ Every trainer I've ever had in any style has been a world champion so I'm quite keen to get with a good trainer. Sensei Ernie Molyneux is top notch - world class from what i know.
