  1. Welcome to the forums and welcome back to the martial arts!!
  2. It is "kaizen" that I try to instill in my students everyday in the hopes that one day they will embrace it on their own. Thanks for the article!
  3. WTF since 1991. One system practiced Palgwes's the other Taegeuk's. Personally I am partial to the Palgwe's but it's all good! BTW Laurie: You haven't switched...you have just added to your experience!
  4. A quick reminder to all to keep their posts within the User Guidelines and be respectful. Differing opinions are welcome here as long as we respect those who disagree with us. Thanks!
  5. Our school has many patches that are optional. I only wear one-the organizational patch.
  6. This fall some guys car rolled down the hill and hit our house. His insurance company refused to pay because it was "partly our fault". I guess the house jumped in front of the car!!!!!
  7. Just a note: Most painful periods can be caused by fixable things so maybe a trip top the doctor can help in some cases. No one should have to suffer through their menses-it is not normal.
  8. Our Grand Master visited the US about 2 years ago and I was able to attend one of the many seminars he held while here. It was a great honor.
  9. And, to add to this, while there is a minimum standard to meet, each student should be evaluated not only on the physical but the mental and philosophical too, not always be compared to others. I have held students back that were very physically talented but who lacked in these other areas; and ,yes, I have promoted students lacking in physical skills who exemplify budo in their effort and character. Eventually the physical will catch up and hopefully vice versa.
  10. I would have to say I am generally in agreement with you here. Although I am sure that there will be discussions on which arts fit into each you seem to have hit the nail on the head. I too tend to look more to the philosophical aspects of meanings and feel symbolism is a very rich part of our martial heritages.
  11. I had all 4 out at once as did my son. I had IV sedation,he just had a little laughing gas and we both did fine. I wouldn't worry-just think about how good you are going to feel when it's all said and done.
  12. My "hardest" grading had to be when I first tested into my present system mostly because of the expectations that everyone had. I had also only been in the system about 6 months and had a lot of new curriculum spinning around in my head. As for the toughest physically, it had to be my 3rd dan test with WCTKD as I had cracked a rib the week before which made breathing oh so special!
