  1. Students who desire to achieve Dan ranking in our JJ system ARE required to obtain a concealed weapon permit which entails an extensive background checks. No permit no advanced training. Even then discretion is of the Professor.
  2. I suppose I can be accused of cult-ish behavior myself as I am extremely passionate about the system I trained in and am always talking about the Founders & my Master Instructors as their impact on my life was so profound.
  3. It is a matter of philosophy here as I too would not hestitate to wear a white belt in any school regardless of my ranking in the style however, I would question the integrity & intentions of any school that would not honor a black belt in their own style simply because you come from a different dojo.
  4. Welcome-hope you are enjoying your time here!
  5. I teach the same base (basics/kata/one-steps) to kids and adults but eliminate knife skills and the more "adult" subject matter until they reach advanced levels. By that time they have usually proven they are a serious student and are allowed to begin learning the rest of the curriculum so that when they are eligible to take their Black Belt test everyone is on the same page.
  6. My kids gave it to me years ago-I'm a ninja...and a nurse.
  7. Craving bread may be the result of not totally eliminating wheat from your diet as it has a morphine like effect on your brain which gives you a "high". In a sense, you are a wheat junkie! Paleo eliminates ALL grains thus detoxing the body from these addictive substances that wreak havoc on your metabolism. Thus, once you detox, you will not crave it anymore.
  8. Rank is awarded due to personal hard work and sweat, a title is earned by your actions towards others.
  9. A 10 year old Black Belt should be compared to another 10 yr old not an adult. If the instructor is doing his/her job their technique and understanding should be commensurate with their age not their size-of they meet the requirements they should be granted the rank. That being said, systems that cater to society's penchant for instant gratification and design their curriculum's to allow 10yr olds to test for black belt do not have the best interest of the students or the integrity of their arts in mind.
  10. Start now because if you wait you'll be behind those who didn't!
  11. White Orange Yellow Green Purple Blue Sr. Blue Brown Sr. Brown Red Sr. Red Red/Black (Cho Dan Bo) Black I teach a system that uses TaeKwonDo as it's base art.
  12. I have used my martial arts training in nursing....on several occasions.
  13. Absolutely stretch after warming up-in fact I never stretch before running! I always stretch after and we only do light stretching in class after a 10-15 minute warmup. Students are encouraged to stretch AFTER class before going home.
  14. I stretch daily and encourage my students to do the same. This is essential for mobility as we get older and for injury prevention to boot.
  15. Welcome.....happy to "waste" time with you!!!!
  16. Welcome and congrats on the kyu!
