  1. I don't want to scare you but it could turn ulcerous, get it checked out, you could lose your leg.
  2. Neither do I, never heard of them
  3. An Iconic actor and great Martial artist, Rest Well indeed.
  4. My Style is a product of Evolution, but the ethos is traditional. I say it can work and work well.
  5. Mal is right, go to each club, have a look. Do the students look happy? Is there a good mix of grades? Has anyone stayed with them for a long time? There are many questions you should ask yourself. If you can afford them, go for it. Beware those clubs that offer more than a week for free or free uniforms, you don't need to be under any obligation. Good Luck!!
  6. What a course! We were grouped into threes so we could rotate and observe. We did some shooting to ground and some counters, some side and stomach throws, some osoto gari, seo nage, o goshi and a devastating kote nage that was demonstrated on me! I flew through the air even though the Sensei hardly touched me. Well Done D.M.A., great job!
  7. I'm off today on a Throws and Takedowns course with Dragon Martial Arts. I don't know what to expect, but I know that the instructors are training in Japanese and Brazilian Ju Jitsu to compliment their Karate training so it could be quite interesting. Wish me luck.
  8. Hello and Welcome, I'm over the border in North Wales, osu!
  9. Congratulations! A High Quality Cotton Belt is better than any other material. It lasts longer and the knot holds more securely.
  10. I have the jump in Pinan Godan to do, I think I can do it justice with some practice.
  11. My present Sensei has 30 years experience in Shukokai and Shito Ryu, he's going for his 5th Dan this year. His Sensei has 40 years in Shito Ryu, Shukokai, Okinawan Kobudo and Ju Jitsu. My point is that the Master of our Style here in the UK, if he went to a different school of Martial Arts; Tae Kwon Do for example, he would wear the white belt of a beginner.
  12. A belt's value reflects the work you had to put in to achieve it. If you we're given it as a reward for spending copious amounts of money on your training; then it means nothing. If you achieve it through hours of hard work; if you had thoughts of giving up many times but overcome them with will, courage and sheer determination; then it can mean the world to you.
  13. I started training when I was 14, that was 26 years ago. I have trained in several styles, Karate being my favorite. I was never a sport fighter, Kata is my focus. I study good Bunkai with my present Sensei and I enjoy it very much. Good luck on your quest for MMA fame, it all starts with that dream and the resolve to stick with it.
  14. I think Karate and Ju Jitsu compliment each other perfectly. A stand up and ground based style is good for a well rounded martial arts career. It is better to practice two styles that contrast than become confused by trying to perfect two similar styles.
  15. Honor may seem to be an old fashioned virtue; but it is just as valid in the modern world of street and dojo as in medieval battle fields and training halls. They say it is all in the mind; I say the spirit is just as powerful and our only true opponent is ourselves.
  16. For me, any good Okinawa pattern Gi can be just as good. As a guild line I would expect to spend £30 on a new Gi, no more.
  17. I don't have a traditional Makiwara, I have a Wing Chun Wall Bag - Canvas with a dried black eyed pea filling. It does the same job.
  18. Bassi Dai, no question - Storm that Fortress!!
  19. I hope this forum helps you, you are very welcome to ask as many questions as you wish. Please comment and argue, that what we are here for. Agree, disagree and enjoy.
  20. I have little MMA experience, but a Shotokan style Round Kick with the ball of the foot to the inner thigh works great for me in self defense.
  21. Iron Maiden!!!
