You are Very Welcome, this is one of the most well deserved honors ever. Well Done! -
Welcom to KF xinyitaichi, we have a similar Chinese martial arts based school here in the Uk, check out Shi Kon Martial Arts in southern England. I used to practice Wing Chun and I use Qi Gong every day. I hope you enjoy our forum.

The hook punch in sumo stance is what I performed and it was right. The proper name for the suit that my Sensei required was "Karatedo Gi" And yes there are two Wasa-ari in an Ippon or full score.

Gi's are different sizes, People are different sizes and proportions. My last Gi was a Japanese cut; Long Jacket, roomy with short sleeves and big pants with short calf length legs. They look great for Kata. My new Gi is a Modern western cut; long sleeves and legs, short jacket with tight fit. The second is ideal for Kumite, it gives nothing away and is lighter for fast movement. It's horses for courses I suppose.

The Game was won in the first half, the best Defense in the World trounced the Broncos and their Legendary quaterback. But running in a kickoff return straight after the break? Well, that was just another swoop of the Hawks' wings. And this is a young team guys!

Hello and welcome, we will help if we can.

It can vary from day to day, but usually 2 or 3 times a day.

The coverage goes on all night in the UK, the program starts at 22:30 GMT and goes until 04:30 GMT next morning. Can't wait! The guys at work on monday morning will just shake their heads and say "Superbowl" with disapproval just as they did last year.

I think the dark gi looks good; even the patch has a combat drab look to it now. Keep up the good work Noah.

One thing to be aware of while watching Youtube; It has highlights, yes; but it is also a large cross section of the Martial Arts world. The Good, the Bad and the Ugly. Some of it is useful; Some of it is Very Poor, Some of it is Dangerous. My Sensei hates Youtube; "It's full of ego and poor technique; if you copy someones Kata from Youtube; you copy their mistakes too." Youtube is a poor Sensei guys!

Oh, that's ok; I've never seen the word written down properly before; thank you for that. I shall add it to my armory

We play a game in our Dojo; it's called Pop Quiz. Sensei Williams calls out a name of a technique or stance or term in Japanese and the students attempt to perform it. Or he can ask a martial arts related question. The juniors have great fun with this game and it is very important. We played it tonight, even some of the senior grades joined in. I was challenged to play one to one against our shodan sempai. It was the first to score 10 points. The score was 9 - 6 to sempai Becky; then I won 3 points in a row and was out done at the very last. (A dubious decision I hasten to add.) Here were some of the questions; 1; Perform a Kage Tsuke in Shiko Dachi 2: What is the correct Japanese term for a Karate Suit? 3; How many Wazari make up the Ippon score? Any ideas folks?

What an interesting Video! The Karateka uses Zanchin Dachi during the block! Wow! So it can be a very advanced Kata indeed!

In my Opinion as a Traditional old Toad , if it has no Bunkai; it is not a Kata!
-
Kata Bunkai is the root of our Karate; we teach it appropriate to grade and maturity from the start. One Wado Ryu Sensei said to me that Bunkai was for Gangsters! He said that there was no need to teach it, only to the most advanced inner circle only. I almost laughed, what do they teach then? This is where the karatedo is! Without application; you might as well teach aerobics!

I thought the Italian Kata was better. I thought the Japanese Bunkai was better. What clinched it for me was that the Japanese team shared the Bunkai more evenly, so I vote for them.

A local so called master had a similar sounding system in his schools. The students of the elite club wore different color pants and payed more per month for some perceived benefits. There was a feeling of a two tear class, the have's and the have not's. I think it is a weapon of a few other schools too to encourage the ego of their chosen students while making them spend more.

Kata Training vs. Concepts Training
Harkon72 replied to bushido_man96's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
Our cross Kata are the most basic, there are 10 of these. They are taught along side the other Kata as you progress. To the layman's eye, there are 4 blocks and 4 punches or strikes in each; but you find in practice that each of these basic looking kata have techniques that can be applied at the most advanced level within them. I'll give you a clue; a reaction or Hikate hand can prove just as deadly as a more obvious technique and each turn in a simple Kata with an appropriate block can prove to be a throw or take down. The thrusting hands of the first punch in Shio Tsuke can be a termination technique if applied in an adult's bunkai of the kata; and this is the first kata ever taught. This concept of progressive maturity of bunkai is a common thread of Okinawan Karate. We look to develop our Karatedo from the most basic to the more advanced throughout the whole spectrum of our teaching. We always return to the core, kata is not a vessel for gaining belts. -
Hail and Welcome! Enjoy!

The only way to know is if you experience one. Ask a Wing Chun practitioner to punch you in the heart, or a Thai Boxer to kick you in the thigh. On second thoughts; don't, I don't want either on my conscience. Being Tough is cool, but there are always tougher and ultimately, you only have one body.

I knew that Korea had a Sword Tradition; but this is the first video I have seen of an art from the peninsula that looks like it comprises of Japanese style Iaido and Kenjitsu. Interesting, has anyone else seen any Korean Sword Play?

I'm not going to bleat about crippling injuries that can happen with shin and leg kicks, they are some of the most effective techniques for self defense are they not? I'll tell you a fact, plain and simple; My first Karate Sensei was a Karateka that fought full contact, with no hand or chest protection. Before old age and leg injuries took hold, he suffered poor heart function. This was a symptom of a left lead stance that he had taken in years of full contact kumite. He had taken hundreds of punches to the heart. And even though he lived on fish and vegetables and never smoked or drank alcohol; he died of heart failure before he was 70. Bob's comment on taking punishment without evading or blocking is a profound one. It is well known that Kayokoshin are some of the toughest fighters in the karate world; but in this day and age, and granted you have free will, is it not a choice I would make to prove my martial arts skill. As the Master said; "Best block - Not be there."

I'll give you some advice; Relax. That's it; the more tense you are, the less efficient your technique, and the quicker you will tire. If you do Kihon tense; you will feel that you cannot even hold up your guard hand after a while. If you do your Kata tense; you will feel that each one is an uphill battle and the faster you go to finish the more mistakes you make and the whole form is lost. If you fight Kumite tense; you will be amazed at how fit your opponent looks as they rain in combinations as you pray for the bout to end. Relax

I would add a get real title on self defense like "Fear" by Geoff Thompson.
