  2. Matsumura Kata, and Matsumura Bassai is another... PAL, I´ve seen a video of matsumura Bassai, and it´s nothing like bassai dai.... but thanx for the answers...
  3. hi... if anyone can send me the descriptions of this kata i´d apreciate... or knows any web site that has it! I just watched Yoshihide Shinzato ( 10o. Dan in shorin ryu, the only 10o.dan here in Brazil ) doing them... and boy... that was amazing... so I´m tryin to learn them now! thanx!
  4. HI... I just sawa documentary about MA in the people & arts channel, and I saw this Goju Ryu sensei named Masaaki Ikemiyagi, MAN! WAS I IMPRESSED!? So, I just wanted to know if anyone here knows him or practiced w/, that could tell me something about him and his training! Thanx
  5. well, in the style of shito ryu that I practice, Minami Hankyo Shito-Ryu, it´s mostly motodachi, neko ashi, and shiko dachi... the feet movement when u walk in shorin are in a straight line, in shito as in shoto and goju, you walk doing a circular movement with your feet... The timing of the kata is probably as fast as shorin ones... hope I helped...
  6. I don´t think so... never heard of shinto ryu though
  7. Harleyt26, the sensei said he learnt it from shito-ryu, and from wut I saw in a shitokai website once, is was exactly the same, and I´m pretty sure that is named sochin....
  8. Hi, i´d like to know if anyone has the kata description or video to download or watch on the net of Sochin, cause I was learning, but the guy who knew the kata went to another state... and I was really lovin the kata... so I´d apreciate if anyone could help me... THANK YOU! Btw... I´ve watched Shoto version, and they don´t look alike at all! See ya
  9. hello... don't worry about katas... it's hard to get them at start... u'll get use to it... just keep in mind, that you're starting this... and kata isn't supposed to be learnt the easy, then, that would be foolish to dedicate to one two katas a year, a month or a lifetime as masters used to do... just relax and have fun... and about the dirty looks.. don't mind... they don't know you... that is normal in a dojo.. people will try to analize you... my sensei said to me when i first started: altought there'll be a lot of guys training, your training will be w/ yourself.. don't mind others.... good look and have fun
Have fun... always...
  11. q beleza.. cada vez mais brazucas aki no forum... vc treina aonde véi?
  12. I don't remember where.. but i once saw an article sayin that the bulls the oyama fighted were all sick or very old... and I don't wanna say that I don't respect Kyokushin or that oyama weren't that good of a fighter, but, I do sense some fake on him... some "show bussiness" on his karete.. and there are a lot of rumors, little facts... And I don't think that fightin animals means anythin, cause they don't fight back, they only use their instinct, there's no strategy, like that kyokushin dude that "fighted"w/ a bear... ridiculous...
  13. http://crane.50megs.com/index6w.htm please give it a thought too... thanx

  16. Hi... I'm 1,70cm and 70kg... sorry I don't know how much is that in ft and in lbs... but anyways... i'm trying to get a little heavier like 74, 75kg... so... I started a 3 days workout so the weight lifting don't mess my MA training. the workout is kinda like this Mon- Chest, Triceps and Calves- 1x8 10 reps medium weight cause I'm still adjusting Tue- Biceps, Back and Shoulder, same reps as above Thursday- Legs, fore-arms, traps, same reps as above.. I'm only using my dumbells cause I can't afford a gym, my first question is this: I'm addicted to push ups, but I don't know if it's okay to keep doing it... I was kinda of thinking to do 1x8- 10reps, with a day interval... and I don't know If you know an exercise that Bruce Lee use to call the Dand. I was kinda wanting to do that too, cause that's the only lats exercise I know... wut do you guys think? and the other thing is about my diet... I'm doing shake with milk bananas and the white part of eggs, and eating a few slices of bread... do you think that this diet will help me in gaining weight... I don't have the money to buy that vitamin products, and I don't know if I should because I do my exercise with dumbells not in a gym and stuff... well, that's it.. sorry if I got a bit confusing while writing it. Thanx for reading See ya
  17. does your sensei demand that u do a circular movement on you ukes? mine, says that theUchi Uke must travel a circular movement... not a straight line like shotokan for example... does people in your dojo use that exagerated hip movement in kata or is it more like shorin ryu? thanx for readin! and for your time... see ya
  18. c'mon! NO ONE???????????
  19. Hi, I've a few questions about kata.. 1- does Kosokun Sho have the 180 degrees jump? or is it just a fall like Kosokun Dai? 2- On niseshi after the kiai part, you throw the guy down, and then kokutsu dachi and double punches, there's the neko ashi and the mawashi uke, what goes next, before the gedan barai and the gyaku zuki? is it an elbow strike? I don't seem to get it.... thanx Thanx!
  20. I do Shito ryu, and seisan is my competition kata.. any question, just ask.. and by the way... Shotokan doesnt have Seisan, they have Seishan wich is the same as hangetsu. SO, goju has seisan, and Shoto has Seishan...
  21. ops, forgot to say that my sensei, who is an 8th dan. and trained directly from sensei Akamine, says that the correct way is do to the kata without the loud breathing.... but anyway, karate has evolved, i dunno, if that kinda of loud breathing is good or not.... just thought that was important to say my senseis point view...
  22. I believe that, if you love it, it's worth any sacrifice. And about the budo, It's hard to follow it in another century, society and everything, theory is one thing, the practical side is another thing... But anyway.. Best Wishes for u in your journey, the internal and external ones. See ya
  23. I dunno.. I kept asking myself that a lot of times, i kinda realized that, that's personal. You should exhale when you perform a movement, but that doesn't have to be loud or forced or anything. The best guys I saw doing kata did some kinda of noise when they perfomed a kata, but as they say, that's not forced, they say that helps them to keep the timing, and focus, and for some can be as a internal kiai. I dunno... I do the breathing sometimes, I dunno, I guess that's pretty personal.
  24. U seem pretty determined to do what you have in your mind, "that journey in the way of the warrior", so DO IT! Don't expect us to support you or to say "that's not right" or anything. U asking this things, makin this kind of threads only shows two things: U're not sure about doing this, or wanting some recognitionl. So, If you wanna do it, go and do it, and tell us what you learnt, if you learn anything off course. In my opinion, as far as I know about your MA background, you were a 9th kyu in isshinryu right? So how can you rebel about ranks, if you haven't even got one????? I believe that If a Shodan want to rebel, that's okay, cause he at least spent his time enough to get his shodan, and he had the time to think about grades, and wut that meant to him, but if you never even got to the half way of grades like a green belt, or a purple belt, wut are your complaints about it? ya know? why are you complainin about something u don't know how it's like? And I say that you want tradition, I doubt that you have the time, and the guts to practice like traditional senseis did, and even they had a regular master. So, anyway, good luck...
  25. well... if have any doubts about it... ask your sensei... read books about old masters... read nagamine's book... have you ever heard about an old master whose techniques was high kicks? and besides shotokan, wich style uses high kicks in katas? And u do shorin don't you? If I'm not mistaken there are no high kicks in any kata right? We have a 10th. dan here named Shinzato, he can confirm wut I'm saying... he's a shorin master. And there's a Uechi-Ryu book ( that I've gotta check the author now. sorry ) that also says it... and If I'm not mistaken, there are some masters that used to do sokuto in the chest level. but I'm not sure about that. The cool things about old master is that each one had a special thing, jumping, a kind of punch and etc... but as far as I've read or learnt, no high kicks... see ya
