  1. I guess age is never a problem when you begin to take MA, it only depends on wut you want from the MA... If you want to be the world champion, as sooner the better... but if you wanna master it, and do not bother about these "tittles" there's not a perfect age to start... it all depends on your intentions...
  2. no... annan and ananku are completely diferent... Some say that ananku is the complete version of anan... but that's not true... i dunno the history behind these 2 kata... but I know how to do them... and they are completely different... that's somethin for us to research about heheheheh
  3. and there's also chatanyara Kushanku, Tomari Bassai, Niseishi, Annanku, Aoyagi, ryufa...
  4. vc treinava com a sensei Hisuru? Goju-ryu é tradicional... agora num sei como a seigokan ensina...
  5. i agree.. I just hope I don't loose my teeth while learning... or don't brake my arm or anything like that... let's see... my training re-starts august 5th... I'll let you guys know the news hehehehe thanx for evrything...
  6. yeah... that's usually wut I do... return with blows in the solar plexus... or ribs... I dunno.. I'm not used to get hit in the face... and that kinda f*ck up with my ego... as sho-ju said... he's doing me a favor I guess.. it's a good way to loose my ego... I dunno... i guess it's good for me to face situations like these... so I can learn more about myself, and to control myself... right?? I mean.. it's all part of the "art", I guess me not wanting to get hit on the face, Is like boxer not wanting to get hit on the face, a tkd guy not wanting to get kicked on the face... it's part of what we do right?
  7. Hi... today I was at one of the dojos that I practice, and there's this guy that he does everythin he can to fight w/ me... So today, we're havin kumite practice, and the guy came e got to be my partner... I hate practicin kumite w/ him, cause he like to play a little dirty, do things like, kick the knees, frontal punches the head too hard, grab your arms, do somethin similar to that judo's soto gari, and things like that... But anyway.. there we were practicing shiai kumite without any protection or anything, I was cool... playin simple e light... not hiddin hard... and suddenly the guy gives me a punch at the throat, thank god somehow one of my hands kinda protected the full power of the punch that he gave to my throat.. Then I started to get angry w/ him.. but always controling myself, and then a couple of secs later, I got a punch in my mouth... it bled a little... and my sensei didn't say a word... and the guy didn't seem to care... And I got really really angry, but at the same time avoidin to do somethin, cause in my religion there's somethin we say like: Love your enemies... so respectin my "partner" as a humam being, I kept it cool... and then, when i thought it was over, the guy gives me an open hand strike on the back of my head, I got little dizzie... and then to me that was It, I was going to transform this shiai Practice into a street fight! But before I do anythin I came to my senses and asked him to wait while I put my head in it's place... so I don't hurt him... Maybe he got a little mad cause even knowin that i'm playin cool w/ him, not puttin much effort to fight him, I'd still win... hehehehehhehehe But I heard he already ripped a dude's kimono, broke one guys feet... gave some dude a Black eye! and the sensei didn't do anythin! I can't understand that, i've never seen anything like that at my shito-ryu dojo... So now I wanna know, what would you guys have done? is this normal in your training? is it normal the sensei to didn't do anythin about it? please send me your comments about it... btw, the guy is like 30, 1,90cm, 1st. dan... i'm 18, 1,76cm. 9th.kyu ( i'm in that experimental kyu, cause I'm a 2nd. kyu in shito-ryu... so I'm only a couple of months in that shotokan dojo, and the sensei is kinda decidin wich kyu I'll be in shotokan... )
  8. http://www.geocities.com/alaumirm/index.htm at this site u can find pictures of my sensei a little bit of his history hehehehehe at the Nago Budokan/Hemisul Shito-Ryu... And in the link part you can find some of the katas... and there is: https://www.shitoryu-org https://www.shitokai.com https://www.hkshitoryu.org and if you go to https://www.altavista.com you can find a few videos... just choose instead of web search, use video search... you can also find some kumite and kihon videos there...
  9. Ow yeah! I'd be really great if you could share a few sites with us.. By the way, ANYONE who has a site and wishes to share with us, please post it! I've put a few on the topic Shito Ryu katas... if you wish there are some links there! Thanx! I'll see you!
  10. Awright... So, I ask u people here, in terms of the motion of the punch, from it's beggining to it's end, wut's the difference between that in karate styles? You could be a Wado karateka, a Shorin Karateka, a whatever karateka, the motion of your punch will be the same as everybody else! There ain't such things as "In shito-ryu we punch this way", "In shotokan we punch that way"! So, you guys might be thinking:"Wut's your point?" My point is, to say that a style is fastest than another is absurd! of course some styles focus more on strenght, other on speed and so on! For example shotokan is famous for it's incredible gyaku zuki's! That's theirs speciallity! but if a goju want's to master this technique as shotokan guys master it, he can! because he knows the motion, the only thing he has to do is to put as much effort on the gyaku ziku as the shotokan guys do... MA are like drinks, if you're thirsty you can drink a lot of things to cease it... for example, you can drink water, beer or whatever, so there aint no thing as the best MA, or karate style, each one has it's characteristics, you just have to pick one to cease your thirst... well... i guess that's all... thanx... see ya...
  11. Hi... I'm a shito-ryu karateka too... I guess from the all Big Fours shito and shorin ryu are the fastest styles... And I think that Shito-Ryu karatekas have an advantage cause we train as fast as Shoto or shorin but we still practice the Goju katas, so that's why I think shito ryu is one of the most complete styles... might not be the most beautifull one to watch dependin on the kata... cause let's face it... some shoto katas are awesome! At least I like to watch them hehehehehehe Shito-Ryu also has a singularity, the MOTO-DACHI, wich I kinda suspect is what the other styles call KUMITE STANCE... And Some shito-ryu katas makes me feel like I'm doing Kung fu hehehehe like Nipaipo or Chatanyara Kushanku! those katas are awesome! And wut do you mean with open hand strikes? YOu mean the shuto-uke? or the mawashi uke? I dunno.. I just can't understand why shito-ryu is so underestimated by other styles... I mean, I don't think that shito-ryu has the recognition that it deserves.. I mean... for example You can find ALL goju katas, Wado Kata ( even some Yakusoku Kumite videos), Shotokan Katas, SHorin Katas, But you can't find ANY shito-ryu kata videos to download on the net! And that sucks cause I can't afford to buy those video tapes that are in american dollars! they're too expensive! But that don't bother me so much now heheheh my sensei is teaching me all katas now hehehehehe Well, Got to tell ya.. a few months ago I posted a few topics about shito-ryu and there were so few people that practiced it here... and I know it seems like the our "shito group" is gettin bigger... and that makes me kinda happy ehhehehehee Osu!
  12. Well... Maybe when u go to a all style tournament.. u'll realize... hope u keep your shotokan studyin, and hope that you do not loose so bad to anyone in other style... cause I can't imagine wut that would do to you... maybe it'll show that your becoming each time more limited as a fighter every day...
  13. If you don't do MA research, don't know anything about any other style or history u're a fool to make certain statements... all the styles comes from the same place, so arguing about wich one is better is a waste of time... And a great karate-ka or Martial Artist is not great because of his style... it's because of him! It isn't the style that makes the karateka, it's the karateka that makes the style!
  14. If you go to a tournament in japan you'd be surprised... Kumite winners are almost all of the time from Wado-Ryu... In 1998, wado-ryu came here in brasil to a team champioship... there were 6 of the best Shotokan guys around from Brasil... and there were all wado ryu guys from japan... Brasil lost all 6 matches... and a guy lost his teeth! I gotta say that those wado guys were amazin... I can't describe it... it was the coolest thing I've ever seen! And shotokan doesn't have anything that other style doesn't have too... if you think that shotokan is fast? shito-ryu has a few things that are faster but not so powerfull... because ( correct me if I'm mistaken ) in shotokan you defend usin power against power right? In shito ryu is a little bit different, it's less power, more technique, because your oponents arm will slide not crash in the block ( got it? I can't express myself to well in english ehheheh sorry... ) and the shuto uke's are faster too, cause the movements have a different way of doing it... and if you think that shotokan is harder... I'd like to see a shotokan fighters practicin sanchin or tenchow... And to end I'd like to see a shotokan guy breakin a few boards like the Uechi Ryu guys do! Anyway... not looking for a "who's better then who" here... but I don't think that it's correct to say that shotokan has or not an advantage from other styles... cause they're bassicaly all the same! some styles have more advantage then others... but in the big four I guess it's all the same... even tough that every wado guy that I've seen fightin was awesome! ahahhahaha And just to clear things up, I don't have anything against shotokan, I practice shotokan too, and shito ryu... to b honest I'm just practicing shotokan cause the sensei is one of the best karate-kas here in Brasil! so it's being a great thing just to see him in action! and shito ryu has my heart, and the sensei was one of the first black belts here in Brasil, he's a 9th dan now! hope that someday I'll be able to open my shito-ryu dojo hehehehe Well... I guess that's it eheheh see ya guys...

    KIME!

I was doing a research here, I didn't find anything about kime! So, I wanna know what you guys think about it! What muscles you should focus on? is it 100% speed? Is there a certain age that you achieve kime? ehehe I know I kinda took a while to start "having" kime... When I do Kihon or Kata I always imagine that I'm hittin somethin, do you guys imagine things too to improve your kime? Well, I guess you guys got it right? feel free to post anything about kime you want! See ya...
  16. Ow! And I forgot Nipaipo! I learned this a couple days ago.. cannot do it very well... probably I won't do it very well in a few years from now.. ahahahah but it's a beautifull kata... as Ryufa... but I don't know in wich style Ryufa belongs...
  17. I like Kanku Dai from Shotokan and Kanku sho! From shito ryu I like Seisan... ow boy.. that seisan kata is awesome... i love the explosion in the beggining of the kata... but there are a lot of beautifull katas... like Matsumura Bassai, Seiunchin, even tencho... but I always do Kanku Sho, Seisan and Kushanku Dai ( from shito-ryu )
  18. wow... that 24 chickens site was good! i agree with the guy! I kinda gave up of the makiwara after i talked with my sensei... I'd rather do a few diferent types of push up and that kinda of exercise rather than punchin the makiwara... maybe i'll change my mind a few days later... hehehehe but i agree with the guy... I guess if you have a good punch, a real strong one, you wouldn't be able to hit a board 100 times... u'll just end up hurtin yourself...
  19. well.. shito ryu would be one of the most complete style.. cause it has all shotokan katas, all goju, and a few that only shito ryu has... i don't know if that fair of me to say but i guess shito ryu is one of the hardest styles to master... because it has so many katas... and the rest, like, kihon, waza, they're all the same, the only difference is that in shitoryu the main stance is motodachi, and we don't have kokutsu dachi like shotokan, our kokutsu is like an inverted zenkustu, and we don't use Kiba dachi, we use shiko dachi... but these are the only differences... cause the rest it's all the same...
  20. thanx for the replies! I really needed to know how the kung fu guys practice... cause in karate there's a thing called makiwara ( a board stuck on the ground)< and the guys use to punch this a lot, and i can't afford or make one... so I thought, how that can't be so important! cause karate came from china, and I doubt that the chinese MA had makiwara... so the question came to my mind: How the hell did they practice their punches... I guess reps is the answer right? thanx! keep postin and sharin! thanx!
  21. there REAL HUMAN people that do 100 times better then him... go watch a class... no matter de style... just see what REAL karate is about... not based on a game...
  22. Well... as I said it's a mix of both... he doesn't do any style in special... it's just a mix... could be shito ryu and shotokan, or shito ryu and wado... it's just a mix of different versions of the kata... and u should play less tekken... cause u're kinda loosin it... if you start karate over a video game you're already startin it wrong... peace
  23. What to you guys use to strenghten your punches? heavy bag? hit wooden dummies? punch walls? Pads? NOthin? A set o different kind of push ups? Cause I'm a karateka and I would really like to know wut you guys use to make your punches better, since that Kung Fu is the mother of the martial arts eheheheheh well, if you decide to answer my question please identify wich style u practice! thanx just for readin! See ya
  24. And I also read in a book ( the essence of okinawan karate-do by Shoshin Nagamine ) that Makiwara was not used in china ( where the "founders" of karate learned the art ), makiwara is an okinawan "invention", and I wouldn't dare to say that the "chinese" are less powerfull...
  25. can't I strenghten my muscles (that are exercised in the makiwara ) using weight or isometric exercises?
