  1. Sadly its becoming less and less about self-dicipline self-respect self-improvment and More about beating each other brains out.. In some cases its required but not has often has people are lead to believe.
  2. It all takes time. Has you progress in your training you will get better. And one tip for sparring is, spar BLACKBELTS. Especially male black belts. If they know you are a beginner they will go easy on you. But most female black belts won't go easy. I know from experiance... hehehe...
  3. It will give you a good "grasp" of grappling and striking.
  4. Not yet, hope to someday though, just for the experiance.. hehehe
  5. sansoouser said: AndrewGreen said: Funny, I seem to remember ufc being one - on - one with rules. And please can everyone get over the whole Style V. Style thing. Don't you think its unlikely ( not saying it never happens) that people from 2 different styles will be involoved in brawls. Most of the time its a martial artist and a person with no formal training. Hopefully martial artists understand that there is more to training than just fighting.
  6. Depends on the situation, if its in a crowded area and close fighting is the only option then it has potential. Against a striker it may be less effective because blocks against strikes are generally not taught.
  7. Actually the bow is a stance used in some kung fu styles, looks basically the same has karate's forward stance(zenkutsu-dachi).
  8. Ok, i see what your saying.
  9. Aznkarateboi Said: What about the TKD taught to the korean armed forces or the traditional TKD that doesnt have all the competition rubbish. Is that inferior to MT. This ofcoarse works in both directions has im sure the Thai army does some form of MT that would be more combat ready than whats taught at your average gym.
  10. welcome.... feel free to ask any questions you like.. but remember to read things that people have posted already becuase they may have the answers to your questions.
  11. TJS Said: Actually i think he was trying to say " I would bet my money on a MT fighter over a TKD fighter anyday. " Most things arnt equal on the street are they? But the again, maybe, by chance, if the wind is blowing in a southward direction and the moon is three quarters of its way through orbit... Then maybe they will be the same height, the same weight, have the same muscle to fat ratio etc.. And the MT guy will win
  12. Just poke his eyes out ... after all "captain insano shows no mercy" hehehe
  13. Shotokan_Fighter Said: Is someone trying to increase there rank on KF with posts that don't answer the questions??
  14. ok.. what happens if the MT fighter is 5 foot tall and has been training for a year but didnt learn anything except that getting kicked in the legs hurts if you can't defend against it. And the TKD fighter is a 6 foot 10 monster who has been training for a year and has picked up the techniques well and can punch and kick effectively?? would you still put your money on the MT fighter? or will the 5 foot guy win becuase he has a name tag that says "hi my names garry and i do MT kickboxing so whatout.. even though i cant do anything except hold my hands up i still do muay Thai so you better be scared" ??
  15. basically... also there is bunkai (application of kata) where you learn how to apply the techniques to real life situations. If you perform them slowely they are also good for relaxation.
  16. aznkarateboi Said: Hmm.... How can u judge the effectiveness of a style if there are no people doing it to prove how effective it is?? It all comes down to the person! If there were not people who used the techniques they learned then there would be no such thing has styles and you wouldnt be able to judge there effectiveness or in-effectiveness.
  17. If he trained hard in ground fighting im sure he would do great.
  18. I don't know if this will help: http://www.fightauthority.com ... contains videos of techniques from most styles.. anyway check it out.
  19. Even if bruce lee was a "fake" or whatever he contributed more to martial arts that any other person ever has. He made a choice to question tradition and customise techniques that worked for him instead of useing things that worked for someone else. And the fact that he had such an impact on the martial art community is highlighted now becuase people continue to talk about him ( and question his methods, which im sure he WOULD have wanted) 30 years after his death. RIP Bruce
  20. Depends how you use what you learn and how you adapt it to a method that works for you. They can teach you how to do a groin strike but unless you know how and when to use it and can do it under the stress of an agressive situation than it will be useless.
  21. Generally it will depend on the person and how they train in and use the techniques they have been taught... The best self defence style for me may not be the best self defence style for you. All comes down to the practicioner.
  22. crouton Said: Sounds alot like my own comments of: Please try and read the other messages before replying or write something original... regards.. cross
  23. Thats correct... many people are so worried about getting into a confrontation that they never leave the house or go out and have fun. Most people don't want to get into fights on there night out. Unless you annoy them then thats your fault. Or if they are intoxicated at which point the best defence is to walk away hoping that they will be to drunk to follow you.
  24. Thats true.... the most effective way to train for somehing is to do it... even though its not the best way to have a bit of fun and get fit... hehehe
