  1. Welcome to the forum.
  2. Hello and welcome to forum.
  3. Hello and welcome to the forum.
  4. I did this, was a 1st Kyu of 8 years before I felt ready for the responsibility of a black belt. We were always told what our Sensei thought a black belt should be and what was expected of us. If you didn't want that, or like me, felt you weren't up to it, stay at 1st Kyu. The black belt's were the elite and still should be.
  5. Hello Ronnin360 and welcome to the forum.
  6. Goshin Jutsu If it's the one I'm thinking of, it is a modernized form of Ju-Jutsu, founded by Professor Clark in the late 1960's. Heavily influenced by Karate, as mentioned. Technical , when I saw it , it always seemed to go in for overkill responses. Note: this was a UK based system that was big in the 1970's
  7. Hello Ryukyu Lover and welcome to the forum.
  8. Welcome to the forum Konjuki.
  9. You are looking at it from the oriental martial arts point of view. There is a fundamental difference between a coach and a sensei ! From the view point of modern coaching, his behavior outside of coaching is irrelevant. All that counts is coaching ability. Within the oriental martial arts the sensei needs to have a good coaching ability, but must also be an exemplar of the behavior required, both inside and outside the Dojo. A lot of us fail in this. This is the whole concept of BUDO.
  10. Well done BassaiNige, keep it up.
  11. Good luck, hope Snowdons weather holds when you do it.
  12. Tensho Kata and it's application.
  13. Same could be said for Ju Jitsu. An instructor friend of mine jokes that you don't need to look at the belt to see some ones rank, just look at how much strapping they have on.
  14. Hello Nabil Kazama and welcome to the forum.
  15. This is a very relative subject, in my experience, only a few women are prepared to be on the receiving end and want equal treatment. In the old Dojo, we used to have psycho's corner, inhabited by by myself and those who wanted to play rough, some girls came to visit. Even then the rick of injury to a women, caused a toning down. Sub-consciously or deliberately. That said, what's the Dan grade crying off for ?
  16. I recommend what DWx say's. alternate weeks would allow a better focus on the training and prevent confusion.
  17. Well done to all involved.
  18. Hello Epyon and welcome to the forum.
  19. Thank for sharing that lovely post Shizentai, it is heartfelt , domo arigato .
  20. Hello mocochoco, welcome to the forum.
  21. Well done and keep up the good work ossemon.
  22. JusticeZero is correct, abs definition is more about diet than conditioning. Look for a good sports nutrition book for advice.
  23. Hello ossemon and welcome to the forum. Also well done with founding and keeping a club going.
  24. One after thought, was it hypocritical to what the instructor teaches in class. Have they undermined their own credibility ?
  25. I agree with JusticeZero and MasterPain. A simple assessment, if it's not a legal matter. Was it martial arts related, business, personal ? If it doesn't directly overshadow the teacher student relationship or the future of the school in a business sense ? If not I say stay, things will blow over.
