By the time Freeza was defeated, a power level of 1,000,000 didn't mean much.

I too like studying things which if you call them what they're called, isn't really the thing which you call them. The Tao's confusing like that.

My bet's on Bruce after Gene Lebell taught him what a grapple is and Dan Inosanto taught him what a stick is.

Words That Lose Their Meaning
MasterPain replied to sensei8's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
Feel- As in a combination of cognition of sensory stimuli and intuition based on prior experience. That along with the awareness of breath in and out of your belly(I know it's your lungs, but you should breathe in your belly). -
Showing up sick at the dojo- please don't!

I have been polite and stayed home the last couple days. I'm just now starting to breath through both nostrils again. I hate colds. -
This is where scenario training comes in handy. Set up a situation where you don't know when your partner will attack you or with what.

I'd rather they call me so I can take the safety off.

I assume you mean doing some sort of kata type thing while a sadist gleefully whacks you with a shinai?

Sparring is scary! A Public Service Anouncement

Congrats on being smarter than a large portion of the population. -
Zombie makiwara training paid off.

Nope, I call shenanigans. If you're sparring partners are any good and doing their job, they WILL hit you. The problem is that you are being hit too hard. The body will toughen by things that are a little sore in the morning. Anything lasting a week is an impediment and will not be of any help to you.

Just lost one of the more likable characters. But i think his influence will carry on. Carl is having some learning experiences. I think he's been changed by the events in this episode.

If it's hurting for that long, you are being hit too hard. Ask your training partners to ease up on you until you have built yourself up to the level of contact you're at now. Pain is fun, but not if it doesn't go away.

I was about to say stack the two, clinch and use human shield while beating up the shield, or stack the 2, create space to deploy weapon and stab the human shield. Then I saw this post. You're apparently not training to fight 2 people, but fighting 2 to be better at fighting one. Your instructor isn't wanting you to employ a proper strategy, but simply to test you under bad conditions. In which case, the only real advice is to be stronger, faster, and better than everyone else involved.

Nice work. Looked like a great time. -
Have fun and good luck to ya.

Musashi had a chapter in the Book of 5 Rings about how other schools of swordsmanship relied on a heavy or long sword, and how dumb it was. This is an old concept.

That first one, at least in my mind, was quite graphic and disturbing.

That I can totally relate to. I'm not sure how strengthening my next muscles would have helped as my windpipe protrudes past the muscles so took the full impact. If I remember rightly I stepped forward as my opponent came in with an oi tsuki so it all happened so quickly. To be honest I couldn't help but be impressed with just how effective the whole technique was. Strengthening helps, but tensing right before impact with a sharp exhale, while keeping your chin down is what protects you. This pulls your adams apple out of the way and does other scientific-type things that helps prevent injury. Had to look up oi tsuki. I use that a lot, as the step in makes up for being short.

I hope you recover soon. Sounds nasty, and I'm sure quite scary when it happened. I've been lucky enough not to be caught by surprise with one, but there have been numerous occasions where I was very happy that I knew how to absorb a hit to the throat.

The base shotgun, or one similar, could be had for less than $100. I refinished my own metal, which could cost you anywhere between $15 and $75. A professional refinish on the metal would be somewhere around $125 and $250. I did the wood myself, although you'd want a real buttstock on the thing (maybe shorter than factory) Refinishing wood is pretty easy, so doing it yourself would be less than $25. Shortening the barrel to a still legal length costs about an hour and a hacksaw. You'd probably want to put some sort of sight bead back on the thing, which would add another $5. That all adds up to about 8 hours of work with some friends, and as little as $150 or so. Sweet. Do you happen to know of the legallity of putting a bayonet on such a thing?
