For what reasons do people fight?
gheinisch replied to WadoGuy's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
I agree with what you say,but I do have to question this, don't you mean the ignorant fight to lose?I don't find anything ignorant about wanting to win. Sometimes a person has no choice but to fight in order to defend themselves and I'd rather win then get the crap kicked out of me.It would be stupid to fight and want to lose,in that case why even bother defending yourself? Hello MT, It's not my quote but one from Zhuge Liang, what I think the writer is saying is that those who acquire knowledge and skills realize that violence is meaningless while those who don't will fight all their lives never achieving true inner peace. Kinda deep huh? IMHO Greg -
I've made some great friends in the MA. Our class is in our church so I had already seen a lot of my fellow students around. It's a big church with three services so it's hard to get to know everyone. But once we started taking classes together it was awesome to find people with the same interests and goals as your own. Family is a great thing to have!

Philosophy 101 "Those who are skilled in combat do not become angered, those who are skilled at winning do not become afraid. Thus the wise win before they fight, while the ignorant fight to win." -Zhuge- -
Welcome to the forums and welcome back to the Martial Arts.

I agree with all. Looks like his walking a tightrope. Could be knocked off balance with one finger. Widen the stance.

My wife thought it would be a good idea for me and our son to take Karate together when our church started offering classes. I was hesitant to begin with being 34 yrs. old and all but went ahead and started. Now we have both been at it for 4 yrs. and are purple belts in Hon-Shin-Do getting ready to test for our 3rd kyu brown. And look at me now, posting on Karateforums. I guess you could say we're hooked!

Interesting history. Glad you are here, Welcome to the forums. I took a little fencing in college and loved it but didn't go any further with it. Martial Arts is now my passion. G

Nothing much to add that hasn't already been said other then when you turn and spot your target imagine striking the center mass of the target. The two inch center of the body, that will be most effective. Good Luck!

Hello, I haven't read the book but I have read some articles by Kurz at this link http://www.fightingarts.com/reading/get_articles_search.php?word=kurz&Submit=Go%21. Some are specific about splits. Hope this helps in your decision to buy the book. I'm thinking of buying it myself. G
