  11. This is the second time that posts have been pruned from this discussion. Please keep this on topic. Ones background is not open for disscussion on this board. Everyone can have an opinion but this is not the place to question someones history in the MA's. Thanks in advance for keeping the discussion civil and on topic. Greg KF Sensei

  13. Sounds like a job for Jem618 or maybe Shorin Ryuu. A little help fellas, please.
  14. Let's please try to keep this on topic and try and help. Style bashing is not allowed on this site. Everyone has their preference and likes and dislikes but lets keep this civil. Thanks, Greg KF Sensei
  15. I'll move this to Health, training and fitness section.
  16. I'm guessing you mean the sound for Kia's used when executing a strike or block. The breath used to in the kia should come from deep within the abdomen. The purpose of the kia is to focus all of your physical and mental energy into the block or strike. The sound can be anything as long as it suits it purpose. I've heard people use ice, dice, die and even the word kia. Just let it come natural to you and you'll soon settle on something that works for you.
  17. Welcome to KF.
  18. Our Hanshi tells us to give him three business days and 5 bucks and he'll get us a black belt. But if we really want to be a black belt it will take years of hard training and then a black belt just represents you starting an all new level of training. Books and videos are a nice compliment but can't replace getting out there and going at it.
  19. Hello and Welcome back to KF.
  20. I'll go with what G95Camp said. Our Hanshi says the goal is to be able to react without thinking. You get to the point where things come natural too you much like walking. Hanshi uses an analogy about driving your car. Do you think about putting the key in the door to unlock it? Now sit down and place the key in the ignition.... You get the idea. You just do it now, but as a beginner you may have thought out each one of these things. Some students in class who have been training for a while sometimes question weather they would be ready in a real life confrontation. Hanshi tells them that when the time comes they'll be ready and react to the situation at hand. Other things come into play here as well, confidence, attitude and the level at which you train are only a couple.
  21. I'll move this to the equipment section.
