Defense against School Scuffles
kamahlthedruid replied to ShotokanKid's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
You should move to a different school or try a home schooling program because no one has the right to verbally or physically attack you. I was maligned everyday to the point I developed a mental disorder in high school. I had to deal with gauche people who were insecure with there own physical defects. Bullies harassed me because of prude habits, jealousy, and because of my athleticism. Gauche people with the puritan mentality (scandal spreading witch burners) do not acknowledge their wrongdoings like in the short story "The Minister's Black Veil" by Nathaniel Hawthorne. -
Back in the old days, only the oldest son can be the inheritor of a system. Choki motobu's older brother learned motobu ryu, but Choki Motobu only learned naihanchi from motobu ryu. Choki Motobu was notorious for starting fights in the red light district to refined his naihanchi kata. Choki motobu praciticed naihanchi many times a day because he liked practicing karate excessively.
-
There is a difference between motobyu ryu and choki motobu's shorin ryu. Choki Motobu influenced wado ryu. I assume that a motobu ryu dojo is in bakersfield since a seminar of motobu ryu was held there.

please delete this post because i finally found a motobu ryu school in california.
-
I can't find any sites at google.com about where I can find a motobu ryu dojo in Southern California. Does anyone know where I can find a motobu ryu dojo that is near san diego.

The crescent kick
kamahlthedruid replied to Toptomcat's topic in Choosing a Martial Art, Comparing Styles, and Cross-Training
My dad (itf black belt) said that the crescent kick is good in close quarter combat. I've seen Mirco Cro Cop succesfully deliver a crescent kick to Andy Hug's face. -
These are the drills that I practice with my dad the most. He is an itf taekwondo black belt. I like pretending to kick the shin, and then do a roundhouse kick or do a side blade side kick near my partners face or head right after the fake shin kick. I like to parry a punch and use the part of the hand below the knuckles to pretend to strike the nose. I also like to block strong hook punches with my forearm then use the blocking hand to get my father into a clinch and pretend to break his nose with my elbow. I am pretty flexible for a newbie since I can do a crescent kick to the head.

I think kyokushin fighter would be even more effective if they incorporated gloves and face contact into their training.
-
I always thought kyokushin people prefer to stay linear and fight like crazy, but some kyokushin fighters actually have strategy.
-
kyokushin has tai sabaki! I wonder why almost every martial artist I meet puts down other people's style and think that their style is best.

The master at the school I plan to train at forces students to wear shin guards, helmets, and gloves when sparring. I heard that sparring becomes more intense as you progressed to higher belt rankings. One time I saw a black belt charging at the master with a double knee muay thai slam. I was really shocked that my instructor evaded it and I was shocked that the move was even allowed at the dojo. I had a talk with my old instructor not too long ago at a book store, and he said that belt rankings are not done that frequently anymore because most students are not worried about ranks since students come just to train to become good fighters. This sounds really cool because I can be the worlds strongest white belt if new material keeps on being introduced to me. I think Sean Connery is one of the worlds strongest white belts! Goju ryu has tai sabaki but kyokushin doesn't attack at angles because it is too linear. These czech fighters are obviously heavily influenced by combos and not angle fighting because of kyokushin. What is the difference between Japanese Kyokushin and Russian Kyokushin? I heard these two styles look really different.

I think the fighters in this video look really good.

Does anyone here know if shukokai's punching techniques are stronger than isshinryu's punching techniques.
-
I think the fighter in the blue shorts uses muay thai and judo throws!

Looking for a new system...

I think aikido has staff and kenjutsu only -
The boxing straight blast also known as the vitor blitz works in the ufc, so I bet it would work in a real situation! Burt Richardson JKD unlimited creator introduced vitor belfort to this stronger, but slower version of the straight blast. http://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=vitor+belfort+wanderlei+silva&aq=f

Bruce Lee's Wing Chun
kamahlthedruid replied to sensei8's topic in Kung Fu, JKD, Wing Chun, Tai Chi, and Chinese Martial Arts
The strongest straight blast is called the boxing blast or vitor blitz because vitor belfort (ufc shotokan, bjj, and muay thai fighter) used to use it. jkd concept people excluding burt richardson do not use the boxing straight blast. -

Aikido isn't bad; however, the typical aikido fighter sucks because of the way he trains (not ancient samurai way). This is what I heard from my old instructor who is a daito ryu fighter and aikido fighter. -
there is a new movie out called tekken with cung le in it

I think traditional jujitsu would be awesome because they also teach weapons such as bo staff and sais like karate. -
These styles are both okinawan. For some reason the average uechi ryu fighter looks better than the typical isshinryu fighter. I am guessing that uechi ryu produces better fighters quicker because uechi ryu only has 8 empty hand forms and no weapon forms. However, isshinryu has 8 empty hand kata and 5 weapons kata.

I really hate forms
