  1. Does anyone mix dynamic streching with static stretching?
  2. That is great. Some people just have that artisitic touch. To think, when I go to the supermarket I just see food........ lol
  3. I've put some thought into it. I always thought that weapons or kata competition would be neat. I usually end up having family plans the same weekend. Maybe some day.
  4. I think too much is placed on this kind of thing. I think their first name out of class it acceptable.
  5. Welcome ! Also, thank you for your military service.
  6. We have good old fashioned commercial carpet. Undernreath I'd imagine 4" poured concrete floor. We don't do too many throws, so its not that bad. My feet though, have become callous from the carpet. (turning ect...)
  7. My school we know what and when we'll test. I like it that way. I'm not big on suprises, so it suits me well.
  8. I love these sort of pictures. NASA fan from way back.
  9. Nunchaku Bo Sai It starts at 6 Kyu with the Nunchaku.
  10. No testing fee. Done after class and infront of the instructor. Whenever you feel ready and do the the requirements correctly.
  11. Currently 6 months (8 KYU) in Shorin Ryu and before that Chan Mu Kwon TKD never tested up.
  12. I think I'm with everyone here when I say, I just want to see solid competition in the UFC. Do I think it's cool that there are guys in the UFC that practice Karate? Heck Yea!
  13. White gi with black or white pants.
  14. I wasn't asking if one was better than the other. I was just curious in the slight differences for style to style. The differences in philoshpies and such.
  15. I understand that variety is the spice of life, but why are there so many different styles in Karate? I study Shorin Ryu, how does that stack up against Shotokan or Goju to name a few. Im sure there are differences in stances and katas, but is that it? Looking forward to hear the responses.
  16. Welcome to the board!
  17. I know I would rather live in Miami than Devner. I'm sure a change in scenery will do him well. Besides, I think a WR of his caliber is easily worth two second round draft picks. I would rather take known talent over potential anyday.
  18. A kake geri is more like a side kick but instead of bringing the leg directly back like you would in a side kick you're essentially bringing it back like you would for a roundhouse kick. The striking point is the back of the heel. Although the head is the top target for the standard hook kick and the spinning hook kick, it's also been used fairly effectively in Kyokushin tournaments against the body, especially against the liver.I'm sorry that I didn't know the Japenese term. When Kuma placed his comment, it made me remember what my teachers call it in class. We call it the kake geri, and thanks again for the help.
  19. Not to be the politician here, I think it's important to use both. Knowing the english translation is important, but also to know how to say it in japanese is cool and important to remembering the roots. Well thats my two cents worth.
  20. Everyone thanks for all of your help in this topic.(one of the reasons I joined this group) Jay, you have the kick I was talking about in mind. As for the other examples that were given, I lack the flexablity to get my foot that high to hit the head. Though I do definatly see the application with those kicks.
  21. Thanks everyone!
  22. I've been training for about six months now. We always start our classes with a few of the basics. We get to the kick portion and we start the hook kicks. What is this kick designed to do? I've put some thought into it and wonder if it is good to use against someone with a knife/weapon. I'm curious to hear other thoughts. Thanks!
  23. Hello everyone. I was looking for a site to help compliment my training in the Dojo, I finally found the place. Looking forward to reading and possibly sharing ideas. I'm out!
