  1. Welcome. Came to the right place
  2. I like to keep my training a secret. Only my family and close friends know what I do...
  3. I think with the arts that were mentioned there wouldn't be a problem with learning online if the instruction was good. I don't how learning kata could land someone in the hospital. I understand why people don't like the thought of online learning or learning through DVD's, but I still think that good instruction can come from anywhere and people shouldn't be so closed minded about it.
  4. Is this a serious question??? I always wear my cup no matter what. If your teacher says naaahhh, its because he isn't the one getting hit in the pills. lol
  5. I don't know much about the websites that were mentioned. I think training is training and good instruction can come from anywhere.
  6. I'm usually found playing 360 COD3.( Message me and I can exchange gamer tags). As for hobbies im slowly finishing up my degree in Computer information systems. I currently work as an electrical engineering tech., working on industrial controls. I like to spend time in the gym lifting weights. I had the goal to bench press 300 and hopfully will get there. (someday) I also play in a soccer league. Thats about it... later gator I almost forgot... I'm currently working towards my blackbelt in karateforums! lol
  7. This is by no way a plug, but there are great ideas on Bodybuilding .com. I get alot of useful information there and they have great workouts and diets. Truth be told, Abs start in the kitchen. Like everyone says eating lean clean foods (not processed) and increasing cardio is a great way to see those abs. As for carbs, we all need them for energy. Don't want to burn the protein for fuel, you'll need that for muscle bulding and recovery. If you do eat carbs the slow buring ones. The rule of thumb is stay away from white starchy foods. Those typically are the fast burning carbs... All of this advice is easier said than done. It takes dedication and discipline, which i have a hard time with. I hope this helps
  8. Eve, I like your upper body workout. I do pretty much the same thing, however I don't hit the flat bench everyweek. I'll do bench for a month and break for a month swapping in incline and decline. I find when I do that my bench tends to increase. I also have shoulder issues and if I do bench alot it tends to aggrivate my right shoulder.
  9. I've been helping out with instructing and I usually never hand out punishment. Its just not my style. I seem to get the attention and results i need without punishment.. I'm not sure why, its just the case.
  10. I really like the Chinto application. Thanks for sharing.
  11. I've never had a hard time sleeping. I guess you just need more physical activity on days that you don't train so that you can release all of you energy.
  12. I pay $69 a month and I have an option of training four times a week. I also help with the kids classes and the give me a couple of bucks for my time. (I never asked for the money, it was just given)
  13. The hardest part of studying GU is finding partners to train with. I like their videos and find them very well done. If you have a good core of guys and some mats i say go for it. I started a Gracie garage and they make it sound like when you start one people will be beating down your door to roll. I found it to be the opposite. I'm not saying that it can't be done, I was just my experience.
  14. I hope it is not too old. I started at 30...lol Seriously, like everyone is saying if you want to do it then go for it. Sure it is something new and a bit wierd. Just try it, you already have an intrest in it..
  15. I love the breathing control, it totally makes sense. I've seen a Frank Mir video where he touches on the same topic. The diaphram thing was just plain crazy. You definatly have to do that on an empty stomach. Thanks for sharing it was a great vid!
  16. Strength training for MA. I like to concentrate on the core. A lot of power comes from the core, such as the abs, obliques and glutes. If you are solid there you are much stronger all around. If looking for a place to start I would start there. You can work on the beach muscles later.
  17. I like my roundhouse kicks to be directed towards the legs and inner thighs. Now in sparing I don't try for the inner thighs, do to the risk of accidently catching my partner in the pills. Round house can be a very powerful kick even when in close.
  18. Pinan Sho Dan Pinan Ni Dan Naihanshi Sho Dan Naihanshi Ni Dan Naihanshi San Dan Pinan Yon Dan Pinan San Dan Pinan Go Dan Passai Sho Matsumura No-Passai Seisan Chinto Kusanku Goju Shiho These are the Katas we have for our stlye up to 3rd Dan. My style is Matsumura Seito Shorin Ryu.
  19. I will continue with my strenght and conditioning. I've been seeing some good gains in both. I hope to be able to test for my Shorin Ryu black belt and JiuJitsu Blue belt. Keep on learning in both areas and mainly have a good time doing both. 2011 was a crappy year with a loss of a brother and mother having a stroke to name a few. So, I'm ready to get 2012 rockin and rollin.
  20. That is very cool. I have never seen that before. Thanks!
  21. In my school we do not break boards. I see nothing wrong with it., though some people go crazy with it. YouTube is full of examples.
  22. Welcome! I'm also a a late starter in the martial arts.I can't wait to have kids so that I can share the fun.
  23. What you described is being bullied. My point is, if it bothers you enough that you come on here and talk about, you should probably do something. I'm not saying go in there and start throwing haymakers, but you can do something like tell an adult or just tell them to stop.
  24. This is solid advice too. Not sure you are assuming that I am a minor, I'm 32. I've been told that I look young for my age, but not 14 years younger.....lol
