Sai I too stike with the ends of the nunchaku, but I was asking if you strike with the handle of the tsun kuwa. Apologies if I didn't make this clear
-
Ive beaten her to it.......SaiFightsMS is a woman, not a man. You're not the first person on this site to make that mistake. Hope this clears things up Tobias

The difference is hard to explain - but its kinda like the difference between Tae Kwon Do and Shotokan Karate. CALLING OUT SAIFIGHTSMS : In our tsun kuwa work we never, ever attack with the handle - fearing that it will break. DO you in your style?

I just checked out that website. Be warned that Okinawan Kobudo is all about effectiveness, not show. My examiner recently threw a student out of his school for constantly 'showing off' with the nunchaku, instead of using them in a proper manner. We imagine that we are against an opponent, and traditionally the opponent would have laughed at you if you tried most of the fancy stuff (I'm talking about finger flips and chain grabs) But, people say the fancy stuff is more fun, but there goes. _________________ Oh well...time will tell Tobias Reece Nidan (Shotokan Karate) 5th Kyu (Okinawan Kobudo) [ This Message was edited by: Tobias_Reece on 2002-06-10 12:47 ]

It depends if you want to learn Okinawan Kobudo (which I teach) or japanese weapons. If just japanese weapons then the Demura books are good - but are totally different to the Okinawan Kobudo syllabus (which I learnt the hard way) If you want to learn Okinwawn Kobudo, and be graded by Sensei O'Connor, then purchase the Mikio Nishiuchi tapes - but be warned they are expensive. Hope this helps.

Hey PoisonFree, check the dates on the posts - Taesujutsudrw left a long time ago, way before you came onto these boards. But don't worry about it - we alll make mistakes - no harm done.

The kata for the gama in my syllabus is Kobu Ni Cho Gama Once again this is a modernish kata created by one of the Matayoshi family. TESSONE: Kama are basically sickles, with gama being the plural. Kata is a form

I use this move a lot when I practice/teach bunkai. We all know about hidden techniques, and a head butt is one of them - when applying kata, they are al over the place Cya

"My god, that was a great workout - I'll still aching!"
Tobias_Reece replied to Tobias_Reece's topic in Health and Fitness
Ok, cheers guys - so that means I wasn't talking a load of crock. I feel so proud -
Oh, I understand now - silly me I have done that a few times, but I dont incorporate it into my regular training. On second thoughts.......

WOOH WOOH WOOH.......I dont think Aikido is what Leo is after. (if I am correct in thinking that he is after a street based MA) But, countering that, if the Aikido instructor bases his teaching on street work (which is quite rare) then maybe you want to explore that root. Bottom line as G95 said: it all depends on the instructor - there is no such thing as universal Karate/Jiu-jitsu/etc,

Bobby I hold a Nidan in Shotokan karate and a 5th Kyu in Matayoshi Okinwawn Kobudo, under the tuition of O'Connor Sensei (who happens to live down in Essex). I'm open to any Private messages or postings if you want to chat more Cya

What do u mean by this? Do you mean if we all go in different directions when doing kata? If so then yes (obviously) However, I think that you mean to question if we practise our katas facing different 'walls'. If so, then yes to that as well (obviously ). ANyway, if I'm wrong I'll admit defeat, and maybe you could post again so we can all understand.

Hey guys Dont post much in this forum, but I have a nagging question.... The other day someone came up to me and said "My god, that was a great workout - it's three days later and I'll still aching!" Now correct me if I'm wrong, but I read that a muscle "burn" should die off after x amount of minutes. If the pain is still there after several days, the muscles are actually damaged. Is this correct, or am I talking a load of crock? Cheers everyone

Hapkido or Aikido
Tobias_Reece replied to Hapkido-Cougar's topic in TKD, TSD, Hapkido, and Korean Martial Arts
Once again........ -
Unless you are refering to all martial arts as 'karate', then you have been a tad mislead. Surely you should have said "Martial Art"

Yup, the staff is a very versitile weapon, and is very good as a first weapon

Chris Yeah, I suppose I could have guessed what style you do - it just goes to show how much attention I pay!!! LOL I am not familiar with that kata. Juji-uke is an X-block, with the arms crossed. Kosa-uke is done with one arm doing gedan barai, whilst the other doing an uchi-uke. RE: The 3 different examiners - That is a major problem in many schools without an over-ruling instructor that teaches. At the moment, at our club my father and I are the people that set the techniques, and our senior coaches follow what we say. The problem arises at our other club, but the instructors/coaches there work well together, and any problems tend to get ironed out immediately. But at gradings, there isn't really a problem. Hope this is OK, but I'm a bit brief at the moment....tired...so very tired
