  1. Haha, where are you? I'm testing today in south philly. And I just shoveled 14" of snow from my driveway. Lancaster! Same storm, got about 12-inches!
  2. Hello, hello!
  3. Given the percentages i would take the meds too. I hope my post didn't come across as crass, I just meant that I would research my diagnosis before I took anything. Unfortunately it seems that health care is based on insurance coverage as opposed to what is best for the patient. I was going to suggest tai chi. That seems to be a natural transition from MAs. No matter how old you are you can benefit from stretching and exercising those stabilizing muscles. Good luck to you!
  4. Wow, I'm not sure sorry to hear that is appropriate because its always better to know what's going on with your body. For me, if my tests showed "normal" I'd be every apprehensive about taking drugs to regulate my body. I would continue MA training until I was told to stop. If I was told to stop I think I'd try yoga or some other similar activity. Good luck!
  5. Sure. Like you said, you were just fooling around. It doesn't take much force to snap someone's knee, collapse a windpipe or blow out an eardrum and thats without fighting dirty. If its a life or death situation, you could stick your fingers in someone's eyes, throw something at them and attack, bite a "chunk" out of someone, rip hair out or etc. My advice to anyone going up against a larger opponent is the moment you know you have to fight, strike first and fight dirty. You need to do something to take away your opponents advantage. Throwing drink or a hand full of dirty can give you the moment to attack... this assumes that you can't run. Let's face it, getting out of a situation is the best option.
  6. Don't get me wrong, I love to watch the teams play HOWEVER I'm soooo tired of Balti being on the losing end I was at the sunday night game this year when Troy stripped the ball from Flacco.... then Flacco threw the ball at the TE's feet on 4th down to end the game I was ready to jump in the harbor after the game I was dancing around the house for the first half of the divisional playoffs, then I was crying in my beer the second half Don't get me started on the AFC Championship last year For some reason, Big Ben owns the Ravens.
  7. It's the night before I'm supposed to test and we are in the middle of a snow storm, AHHHH! Our dojo closes when the city schools close and I'm already seeing many county school closing for tomorrow, AHHHH! Hey, its more time to practice
  8. Hopefully GB wins, I can't take another Steeler SB! I'm bitter, I can't help it
  9. Hello, hello! Sorry, I can't help you with NYC schools. Goodbye for now.
  10. I had similar issues but not quite a bad as yours. I've had twitching in one of my leg muscles (front) and my chest. Both were irritating but the twitching stopped so I never gave it another thought. If i were you I'd do some searching online to find others that have had your problem.
  11. I chamber midway between my belt and my ribs but thats where my arm naturally falls. I've never had my instructor tell me to lift or lower my chambered position. I will look around the room during my next class to see where others are chambered.
  12. Welcome. Hopefully you find a new dojo sometime soon. Good luck!
  13. Nice! Its always interesting to meet an online friend to see how your perception compares with the actual person.
  14. I'm backing the Jets. I live in Steeler country so I get enough lip service from their fans now... bumping the Ravens then getting the SB would be too much to take. On the NFC side, its hard to root against GB.
  15. Thanks! That !@%$# game! My toes were tappin at half time. I just sat on the couch stunned for the entire second half.
  16. I love MA movies but I must admit, this movie was a little bloody for me but I'm wimpy like that. I can't watch a movie that shows graphic killing scenes, can't watch any medical programs that show operations and the last time I had to give blood I passed out. I have no idea where or when this feeling in me developed. That time I gave blood, I thought to myself that my phobia was ridiculous so I looked at the needle in my arm... the next thing I remeber is seeing the lights flickering, but it wasn't the lights it was my eyes rolling back in my head. The nurse starts yelling and 2 interns are holding my up while the nurse is yelling "talk to me, talk to me"!. I sat there for a minute or two babbling that I feel funny. I woke up covered in sweat! A half hour later (!!!) when I was fully recovered I thanked the nurse and left. The nurse had the biggest grin on her face when I was leaving.
  17. My instructor pulled me aside during my last class and told me that I'm testing for my blue belt (3rd Gup) on Jan 27!!! At our dojo, we obtain multiple stripes before we test for a belt. Each stripe test is a kata or a set 1 step defenses. After you obtain your last stripe there is a 2 to 4 month period where you work on all the things that you learned to obtain each stripe. Then the belt test consists of multiple kata, 1 step defenses, and sparring. The thing is.... I just received my last stripe so I'm not getting that 2 to 4 month period to prepare!!! I workout several times a week so the physical part of the test is not a problem but as most can attest to getting my forms perfected is difficult. Right now my head is spinning!!!
  18. I must admit that I don't expect the Ravens to beat the Steelers... but it would be nice!
  19. Hmmmm, I've never of this practice of buying a belt early. I don't think I would do this. At my dojo the instructor issues all belts after a successful test is completed so I've never purchased a belt (directly).
  20. Welcome!!!
  21. I'm not sure this is what you're looking for, but when mismatches happen in my dojo we usually train in some way that is out of the ordinary. For example, we may do a cardio class where we circiut train from push-ups, to sit ups, to squats, etc while running laps in between sets. By the end of the class everyone is gassed! Or we may get out the kettle bells and medicine balls and weight train. The point is to shock the body.
  22. Both Saturday games were great! Usually there is at least one blowout game on wildcard weekend... PLEASE don't let the blowout be the Ravens. Nobody seems to be talking about the Chief's pass rush against Baltimore's hurt left tackle.
  23. One thing that I've found annoying is having to disengage the machine, it doesn't slowly loosen the resistance on your legs
