  1. Another grand post, Shotokan-kez. Very few martial artists approach this term in this way.
  2. KUDOS! Now this is the type of fortitude for the belt.
  3. I agree with Montana. Who is Debbie King anyway?
  4. I dont care who it is, "honorable black belts" and such degrades not only the rank, but the serious people who "earned" it dearly.
  5. Would collectibles/collections be considered as hobbies?
  6. I have seen many arts put green before blue, I have seen few put blue before green. then, purple is placed somewhere in-between? These three colors may not fully symbolize a gradual color-darkening process, as many think bekt ranking does.
  7. 1.) I dont hold my instructors or myself on such a high pedastal. No one on my view, can be the greatest thing since slice bread. Nor, do I desire to project this upon my students. 2.) Yes. I have checked out other instructors at other schools. I can reccomend them in their particular fields. It is a grand thing to be recognised by your peers. It is a greater thing to recognised others, moreso.
  8. By what definition of its terms, can the modern martial artists ever be a "warrior"?
  9. "Giving" a "honorary" black belt is a disgrace to those who practice unwavered and hard for many years
  10. Therefore, can the "modern" martial artist ever obtain "warrior" status?
  11. Nice post. However, is this thread about how others perceive the black belt, or how we, as martial artists, do so when we remove it?
  12. Classic cars, art, writing, music, outdoor activities
  13. Not by name, EXACTLY by literal definition. The literal definition of Gung Fu is__________ Therefore one can have Karate Gung Fu...in a crazy mixture like Chinese American, Italian American, etc.
  14. Sorry to hear that. What or why, has he have back problems? Also, does this really keep him for teaching? Also, there goes the issue with the black belt and its issues agian. Also, the club should still meet, perhaps somewhere else.
  15. Not real in the sense hat it could be written or described.
  16. You'd be surprised on how many people I come across who think their martial art instructor is the best thing since slice bread. You'd be surprised, on how many people ask me to check out or reccomend a martial art instructor or school.
  17. I had my car "jacked". The besrt thing, get your people out as fast as you can and let them "have the thing." My vehicles are insured and can be replaced. The well-being of myself and loved ones, cannot. Then, less not forget the many nifty things one can do to a car, to keep it from being jacked. I think prevention, and no -gung ho heroics are the best course. Unless the car-jacker is trying to get the car and the owner (kidnapping), which may take on a different course of action.
  18. I would tend to think, if there is one whom kicks, is getting the best of one who doesn't, then the area of expertise to study, is not kicking, but better hand-blocking-jamming. As I had said, in sparrng, there maybe a certain environeent or set - type of rules. I for one, will not "spar another's game". There was a interesting bout with Muhammad Ali and Antonio Inoki
  19. Agreed. And each person has a opinion on what is common course to start or stop something.
  20. They are strong, whether you think they are or not. Even though they aren't in the same class of strength that power lifters are, they are still strong people, and likely still stronger than the average person who doesn't weight train, or just the average weight trainer. I know of a few guys who competed in body building competitons around my area, and they were all pushing around a lot more weight than I was. Well, I, for one, have pushed more weight than many who had double my size in muscle. The term "paper tiger" comes to mind. Also, at a gym, some of these "bulk masters", tend to train with weight under the same course as those before them. Lots of reps and much jerking, smooth, continuous moving actions.
  21. And drawing's sister, deception.
  22. Some grand posts here, and really informative without getting into hard core semantics. Could the term be misused out of context to a point to fuel a ego or position?
  23. Grand thread-link S-8...thanks for sharing !
  24. Grand post Blade96. Age and glasses do have slight disadvantages. However, these should not be a hinderance to particpate or study.
  25. There is some course of history, that gives vredit to Jaoanese culture prior to American-Chinese
