First of all welcome and secondly congrats on the weight loss man. i just lost 37, i know how you feel. i really didnt have all 37 to lose so im in killer shape now, although sidelined by ankle surgery. MA's will definately help you maintain your weightloss and work on sculpting some muscles i bet you didnt even know you had. so start go out and trying places, you will know which studio is the right fit the first 15 minutes your there. it's good you have a list. check out websites and check out some classes. good luck in your search.

I actually think i know what you are getting at, if not this is useful info for this post... a policy officer has his or her duty weapon holstered. he or she being 30 feet away from a knife weilding suspect. by the time the suspect brandishes the knife and charges at the officer, the officer has enough time to unclip, draw, aim, and shoot but the suspect can STILL deliver a fatal blow to the officer. from 30 feet away! we use this statistic while we teach our women's self defense course. it's interesting stuff.

Its considered dangerous because you can't really pull it. In order for it to be a point it has to be within the body, and you can't do that without anialating the person. So its considered dangerous. once you launch it, it's going.

Black Belt ceremonies
NewEnglands_KyoSa replied to IcemanSK's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
After successfully passing your BB Pre Test and Test our chief warns you a week in advanced and asks you at which school and during which class you'd like to recieve your rank. you usually choose your 'home' school and whatever night you think will be biggest or according to your schedule, or whatever. everyone lines up with masters, and instructors at the front while you stay in line. you are called up one by one by the chief master&founder. you will run to where he is, by stepping back in line and going around to the right of the room, you will stand in front of him and bow he will shake your hand(the traditional way of course) and hand you your certificate(once again, traditionally) and you will 180 turn to everyone in line and the audience and he will say everyone face mr/ms/mrs/master and then call the commands to bow, at which point everyone bows to you. and then the next master down the line will hand you your belt in the same fashion as before. you will go down the line and bow and shake hands until you find yourself at the end of the line where you will turn around, put your belt on, and join the line. the certificate is 11x14 i think. it's beautiful parchment paper, signed by your instructor and the chief master with the date your rank, all that stuff. the school's beautiful gold seal. and all the signing and filling in is done in beautiful calligraphy. the belt you recieve here is the ceremonial belt, the association name down the right side, your name as you want it with your rank bars down the left. you get a new one everytime you're promoted but im stuck on my original one from when i was a cho dan. i use the ones given to me for my rank display. then usually after everyone gets their rank, if you are one of the more senior black belts or are an instructor he will say a few words about you and then address the rest of the class as to what it means to be a Black Belt, etc its interesting to see what everyone's is like. good post! -
eating for top performance
NewEnglands_KyoSa replied to Hwa Rang Warrior's topic in Health and Fitness
funny you should mention this, i was just at a fight on saturday night supporting a school member. well, it was a four round kickboxing match for a title which our guy held, and because he lost like 10-15 pounds by going low carb high protein, he owned the first round and then ran out of gas. my instructor actually threw the towel in for the fourth round. he would have absolutely romped the guy it he didnt burn out from going on an uncessary diet. he didnt even need to lose weight to qualify or anything. stupid stupid. but anyway i usually go high protein and a 'medium' amount of carbs i guess you could call it. it gives you all you need(mostly depending upon what it is exactly that you eat). this is usually satisfied by wraps or breaded chicked for me. -
welcome back...and sorry to hear about your ailments. knees are terrible, it must really hurt when it rains...i hate knees...

wow, again, quite a jump. congrats -
Oddly enough that was actually the TRADITION at my first school. When you got a new rank, the instructor called you up to the front of the class. On the way there you took off your old belt and tossed it aside, most students flung it as far as they could. When you got to the instructor he would tie your new belt on you. After class (belts were always given out at the end of class) you would find your old belt and take it with you. It was always a good idea to write your name on it first though, because there could be a number of people getting the same rank that day and it might be difficult discerning whos was whos. Aside from that you never let the belt touch the floor, to the point that when we stretched out we would purposefully lay it across our legs during stretches like the middle stretch instead of letting it touch the floor. I think the idea was that you throw away the old identity, and take on the new responsibilities of your new rank. It was actually really fun, I was a young teen at the time, and I looked forward to that part of the very short ceremony. (toss the belt, get it tied on, bow to the rest of the class, go back to your spot). Everyone cheered when the person threw the belt. That is a very interesting history lesson sangngak, thanks for sharing. That's understandable. There's a concept that goes behind it, and the concept isnt carelessness, this kid was just being careless. But that is kind of a cool idea, it sort of makes sense. It just goes to show that every style is different.

Wow, that's a really cool story, thanks for sharing. And it makes sense too! That's cool about Ed Parker too, that's awesome that you two were friends, he was quite the gentleman, and an amazing Martial Artist.

Hi Zanshin, I agree about the domain name. I myself did not create it. One of our other members of our school was running this site for around a year to two years, and after months of not updating it, and it just being an overall plain and very very boring and uninformative site, i asked my chief master instructor for permission to take the site over. so, i kicked him off the project and was left with a mess, so i pretty much reconstructed the whole thing. i'll have to look into how much trouble it would cause, how much it would cost, and how much it would take to switch to another domain name, and i'd also have to see if the masters of the school agree upon making the change. other than that, i agree it is very, blahhh to say the least...

Thanks, your feedback really helps(anyone else's is welcome too! ) But yes, i think the rules are crucial and we actually sat down and spent a long time thinking of what belongs and what doesnt. It's a little long, but i think that everything in there has a direct, and conceivable purpose. It took a really long time to research for the rules, and im glad to hear you think they came out ok. and in the FAQ i dropped many hints about coming in and actually VIEWING a class because i think that's crucial. i like the instructor bios but will be adjusting the pictures in a few months, as i've seen a set up on another site that's nice and i wanna try. im also going to make a member's page when im done with my computer problems im having, it'll help condense some of the stuff that's only useful to students, not visitors. again thanks for the input! anyone else's is welcome to!
