Bruce lee vs. chuck norris
dineshm replied to masterintraining's topic in Martial Arts Gaming, Movies, TV, and Entertainment
The fight was in a movie. No use comparing them. -
This is going to sound rough but.. Apoligise, explain what happened. If you love her, tell her that. Tell her whatever you have it. IF she doesn't forgive you then(anything short of cheating she probably should), cut your loses and move on. You dn't want to be with a girl that can't accept you, or your shortcomings. I learnt that the hard way a long time ago.

Tokaido , Shureido, Hirota. All are great brands. Then comes the Cotton/Special Cotton/Satin/Silk debate. Silk--Looks nice, ages well.(by well I mean turns white faster). Satin-- Looks great, difficult to keep a knot I get my martial arts supplies from kuroobiya.com Service unsurpassed, and the guy replies to any queries in good time.

You can teach a dog new tricks, or in this case, new kicks. -
Hasn't the WKF already established that

They should of given you some medication for the sinusitis. At least an analgesic, or some form of anti inflammatory like cataflam. It's an infection, that's why your phlegm is coming up green, dead white blood cells.

5 years to reach 2nd kyu? That's a hell of a long time, if you ask me. Usually, kyu ranks tend to grade every 3-5 months. Training at different dojos are different, as can be expected. Ranks are not comparable in different orgs, and heck sometimes not even at different schools within the same org, or style.

Cross has some good advice for you. Many instructors might not object to you cross training in a different style, eg from karate, to judo or even something like kickboxing. However, if you say " I wanna go train with that dojo down the street for a while" , you might be in problems. -

what's in your black belt grading ?
dineshm replied to NeilT's topic in Share Your Testing, Grading, or Promotion
When I did my shodan grading back in 2003 it went something like.. 2 , 4 hour sessions. 400 (or was it 500?) of each of the basic kicks(front, side, back, mawashi Same for some punches Blocks-Shuto uke, outside block, inside block , down block , jodan age uke , and maybe one or 2 others. Had to just demonstrate a few stances. Katas were, basically all the katas I knew up to that point. Pinan 1-5 Nihanshi 1-3 Passai sho and dai Chinto Kusanku Gojushiho Rohai Seisan I really cannot remember which ones were used for the grading itself, it's all such a blur now. Kumite was just a few rounds of sparring, nothing'fight or die" like you might think. There was some running, rolls , situps, breakfalls, breaking , an essay, a written exam, and..I had to conduct a short class. -
I used to train 3 days a week in the Dojo-- Mon, wed, Friday. Monday and wed for 2 hours, and friday for 4. Nowadays, I make it to the dojo, maybe twice a week, for 1.5 hours, and do alot of personal training at home.

Well... I ignored it for a few months, kept going gym and training as normal. The pain become really bad at a point, could barely turn a door knob without alot of pain. My hand is in a splint for 3 weeks, and I got a long lasting steroid injection into the joint area. That should accelerate the healing process.

TKD black belt exam
dineshm replied to kingebret's topic in Share Your Testing, Grading, or Promotion
It's good that she didn't drop out, I probably would of. You learn alot more from failure, than from passing. It may sound rough, but it's a good life lesson for her, and from the looks of it ,she has handled it quite well, becoming of a young lady. You should be proud of her, and keep her on the right track. Good luck with your exam! -
I had a wrist problem recently. Pain was on the surface near the little finger. Turned out to be triangular fibrocartildege complex tear.

Is my Sensei being unprofesional?? HELP!
dineshm replied to Charlie_Shodan's topic in Instructors and School Owners
If you transfer to a new school, ;-> you realize point on that the styles are similar, katas etc with only mild differences, have a talk wtih your instructor. If he point blank tells you that "hey, this is my style you have to go through all 10 kyus and beyond, paying me for each one by the way", then find a new school again. -
Stand on one leg. One trick my instructor taught me , was to tighten up the opposing hand. So if i"m kicking with my right leg, keep left hand back, and get tension in it It helped alot, now I dont even have to tense it most times, unless i'm doing multiple kickseg: front, roundhouse, side, without putting my leg down.

Congrats . Hope you enjoy the college experience, beer and all.

Just take it easy for a while. That , and ask the guy if he did that deliberatly, how he did it, and to teach so you can use it on the street.
