  1. https://www.kuroobiya.com , the site owner is very knowledgeable and should ship to canada . Yes heavywieght Gi are warmer. I guess it should last longer, though they are making lightwieght uniforms pretty good lately. I personally have only owned heavywieght uniforms with the exception of one. If you have the money, the Shureido New Wave 3 is a good buy, expensive, but light and sturdy while still giving you the snap and feel of a heavywieght uniform.
  2. http://www.andrebertel.blogspot.com/ Great blog!
  3. I use Tide on My uniforms , it works great. One very important thing is, when your gi comes home dirty...throw it to wash IMMEDIATLY. Fill the machine(with Cold water, or that Proforce is going to shrink) , throw in the tide and let it sit for a while. You May want to try hot water on those areas, but it does shrink the Gi.. Otherwise...take it to a professional dry cleaner, and see if they have any secret chemicals.
  4. My gym workouts change tomore endurance than strength/size. Eg: instead of doing a 5 X 5 workout, or a 3 X 8 set workout, I do 3 X 12, or 3 X 15. A bit of cardio etc. i break down the kata into parts, and practice those separatly...then assemble them back into the kata. Hitting a bag is great for sparring.
  5. Lie to him. Just kidding...Instructors aren't evilpeople, well most of them. A student in my former dojo once lost a pair of sai given to my instructor my Fusie Kise (shorin Ryu). He's still alive today.
  6. I have been doing blackbelt katas since I was orange/green in tournaments. The kata doesn't matter, its; how well you do it. Give the kid a break, his hormones are taking over.
  7. Why not donate some money, I need some socks. Will pm paypal info j/k
  8. It's seienchin, a bit different to the shito ryu version that I do though.
  9. The teacher makes the style, not the name. Go to each dojo, sit through a class. Most instructors are accomodating, and would probably let you train for one class to see if you like it.
  10. AFter the first 3 shiko dachi, you rushed the next movement , up until the elbow strike. Slow down the first part of sequence , just a tad, and then accelerate as you step back with the elbow. Also watch your posture as you move from shiko dachi to shiko dachi. I'll probably give it a 6.8 - 7.1 range of scoring.
  11. The NW3 doesn't shrink that much at all. After the first wash , or 2, that's about it(in cold water of course).

Any instructor, in my opinion, that gets defensive when you ask about , or to see credentials, has something to hide. Be weary.
  13. You are having a laugh aren't you? Either that or your school is having one with you. I mean come on! "50 knuckles push ups in parking lot behind dojo" Ive done a few JKF (Japan Karate Federation) dan gradings and never been asked to do half the mad stuff you were asked to do. Are you pulling our legs lol!! I don't think so..One of my old instructors trained in Okinawa back in the 70s, under Hohan soken + fusei Kise. A typical friday training, WOULD consist of knuckle pushups on asphalt, and not only that, but doing kicks down a parking lot, hitting nearby trees...Thank heavens my new dojo is on the 3rd floor of a building, with no trees in sigh.
