  1. There is Hapkido, and i guess Taekkyon had some takedowns but only because it had come from actual military fighting.
  2. One of the things that our school emphasizes is the ability to know that you never stop learning and to continuously have respect for those lower-ranked than you. In fact one of the sayings that goes on in our school is, "A black belt is only a White belt that never gave up." I would say that you should try your hardest to try and be a white belt but it seems that it doesn't help that the instructors are also treating you more like a black belt .
  3. I'll just put it the way Bruce Lee did, "If I tell you I'm good then you'll think I am boasting, but if I tell you I am no good, then you KNOW I am lying."
  4. It is NEVER too late to start, one of my friends in taekwondo started at age 46 is now 47 and took 3rd in nationals in his age range, he can keep up with me and i'm 21!
  5. I know that for ATA(yea..yea..i know) you have to do all forms from white to black during testing and actually now go through a physical requirements testing that is actually harder than that of the marines...i'll try and get a sheet from it and put it up here..if anyone wants.
  6. Taekkyon was developed during the time period called The Three Kingdoms. They were three kingdoms that sprung up, and since two of them were usually fighting the skills to fight were developed. The actual students usually chosen to do Taekkyon were kids who excelled in the arts, rithmetic, and other subjects because it was thought that if they were that bright there then they would carry over their dedication and intelligence to the martial arts. Eventually one of the Kingdoms sided with China, only to be betrayed in the end by China too. So basically Taekkyon did start as an actual combat for war even though it was taken later into sport and celebrations. Sorry for so much writing, I did my final presentation report for my Senior Level class of Geopolitical History in college.
  7. heheh, that is so true though...i don't really practice if there are people around...
  8. Hello, I just joined the forum and actually found it by accident when I was looking for sparring videos online haha! This is a really great forum! I notice there is much more control and mature discussion in this forum. Unlike in other forums for martial arts where everyone usually argues endlessly about what is stupid about the other. Here everyone seems to contribute, discuss maturely, and even have threads for their own type of martial arts. Well as for me, I am 21, love taekwondo, but have taken seriously the teachings of Bruce Lee to not stick with one and enhance my horizens to learn as much as i can so i also study kung fu (leopard), wing chun, muay thai, and boxing. I also recently started to broaden into grappling. I also love to do tricking, but that's another story haha.
  9. I know traditional dojos are awesome or dojang in my situation but i reeally love the outdoors, especially parks. With all the fresh air, sunlight, breeze, and nice green grass..its the ultimate feeling of calmness and relaxation one should have when learning martial arts even though i hardly get to do this.
  10. I was incredibly interested in Taekwondo since I could remember because of its kicking, so I knew that it was the one for me since I was like 5.
  11. I am 21 years old and am a green belt even though i don't think much of belt colors.
  12. awww darn! i put in that i like to use reverse kicks but i reeeeally love Crescent and Axe kicks!
