It's all in the Practitioner
wingedMonkey replied to wingedMonkey's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
I really don't think that these are what most people would consider "ground fighting" techniques. They are techinques done standing, while someone else is on the ground. Most practitioners' definitions of "ground fighting" techniques are going to be related to those of ground submission types of moves, like arm bars, leg locks, and chokes. Things like that, where both of the fighters are on the ground, or darn close to it, like kneeling. I think you are kinda not seeing it , sorry its kinda hard to explain, i would be doing these moves WHILE actually being on the ground so i consider them ground techniques. They are actually for if u are knocked down during a fight...i know, its kinda weird. -
Taekkyon help
wingedMonkey replied to wingedMonkey's topic in TKD, TSD, Hapkido, and Korean Martial Arts
I'm talking about the weird thrust kicks and their weird, kicking while rotating the knee backward. They also have awesome creepy combinations and a weird jump over the person and kicking them in the back of the head one! -
Taekkyon help
wingedMonkey replied to wingedMonkey's topic in TKD, TSD, Hapkido, and Korean Martial Arts
That is true but i learned a lot of the advanced kicks that 4th and 5th degrees do are from taekkyon, their kicking power was really awesome compared to even taekwondo and i believe it would give me an awesome advantage. I mean come on, Tony Jaa uses a traditional form of muay thai. -

Yea, I meant standup vs ground. Oh and fighting techniques for tkd on the ground are usually consisting of kicking people also but there are stuff like how to jump correctly if someone dives at you in order to have them just go underneath you and then you twist as you jump and axe kick them in the head. More ground stuff would be the whole kicking to shins/knees. Then there is the other rising kick which you do to people's faces. Nah, you can't use them for sparring, they are more of the military past of taekwondo which came from taekkyon. I 'll try and get the link for you'all, its pretty interesting, hopefully i'll get it on here by tomorrow. -

E.M.C is awesome and the only way to get into it is to go to california, where they are at and train with them. They teach you several different styles but of course are all like, pretty young, its awesome, i want to join them one day too for a free run. -
Well guys, Kihap is actually roughly translated from Korean as "battle cry" and well a lot of the meaning got lost when Martial arts came to America but it basically IS to keep your muscles relaxed as you hit, and be able to put focus on your attacks. That's also why in some forms or martial arts you only do one when it is meant to be a strong hit, not on all attacks.

well, the only styles i would say that would not be able to be tested would again be something like ground fighting versus a martial art. But of course little is known about this but taekwondo DOES have some ground fighting, you just don't learn it until you are some degree of blackbelt, even though i was taught a few cuz my instructor rocks. Oh, and there is a video of a taekwondo blackbelt going up against a juijitsu school, and in the beginning of the video it asks, "How would a tkd blackbelt do against grappling?" and the whole video you think oh its this guy from the grappling school beating all these tkd guys, but in the end, it shows that it was the tkd guy that won! Then at the end of the video it says, "Never underestimate a tkd blackbelt!" but anyways..i think that says also of how it was probably him who dedicated himself a lot. -
I need some extreme help! I love taekwondo and i'm enjoying practicing it but its my DREAM to learn Taekkyon! I need help! I don't think there is a school here in the Phoenix area in Arizona where i could go and learn it. So far i've practiced a tiny bit from videos but i reeeeeeeeally want someone to teach me. If anyone has any helpful information i would greatly appreciate it.

hehe, that's cool, our school emphisizes the stance i was talking about but eventually you see everyone in the school form their own default stance. Of course the instructors still emphisize to keep your hands up, move around, knees bent..u know important stuff like that.
-
our school uses an interesting and effective sparring stance. They call it a sparring stance but its more like a default position of ur body. The knees are slightly bent, bouncing on the balls of your feet and turned at a 45 degree angle to maximize direction to the side and front all the while keeping your hands up.

Hi, sorry hadn't introduced myself!
wingedMonkey replied to wingedMonkey's topic in Introduce Yourself
thank you, that's what i'm trying to say. -
Bruce Lee once said that if it helped you, to practice it, no matter what it was. He did not believe in styles but believed in getting what best worked for you out of the traditional styles. It has been this way forever now since there have been countless fights of TKD vs. KungFu, Muay Thai vs. Karate, KungFu vs. Ninjitsu, whatever vs. whatever, and always there is one winner but never necesserally on style that wins overall. Why? Because its all in the practitioner and how hard he dedicates himself to his training, if he keeps his mind open to learn from others, and if he always reaches for perfection. With this in mind, I don't understand why everyone dogs on ATA. I know they run things as a business, BUT, to me, they have one of the finest styles of Taekwondo out there, and that is also an opinion, but what I am trying to say is for people to stop saying that EVERYONE that comes from ATA is horrible. I am in ATA, but i leave myself open to all other styles, I DO love ATA's style but of course its mostly about money to them. I dedicate myself as hard, if not much more than the next guy. So why must I continue to hear from fellow martial artists that I'm no good just because of the school I go to? Its all on how hard the person practices and how much he cares for it. What do you'all think?

I agree with everyone else, the kung fu guy may be good but he wasn't like a shaolin monk, that's for sure, that practices 24/7 or the taekwondo guy wasn't one of those 50 something korean guys that were masters when they were like 20 and live for that too. -
Korean ground fighting?
wingedMonkey replied to Adonis's topic in TKD, TSD, Hapkido, and Korean Martial Arts
I am trying to learn Taekkyon on my own too because there are no schools here for it, mainly in korea and like south america but i notice the kicks are reeeeally awesome! i even recognized some of the kicks of the 4th degrees doing one day as like taekkyon stuff in taekwondo...but i would love to learn Hapkido and also a grappling technique if there is one from korea. -

Tae Kyon's kicking influence
wingedMonkey replied to bushido_man96's topic in TKD, TSD, Hapkido, and Korean Martial Arts
Hmm..i'm starting to think that Taekyon was a mixture of the previous arts of war, but i'll look it up again in my thesis if i ever have time ...ughh..i only get to practice now about three times a week cuz of work instead of six times a week..*sorry off topic for a sec*. -
Korean ground fighting?
wingedMonkey replied to Adonis's topic in TKD, TSD, Hapkido, and Korean Martial Arts
OH yea! your right! Hapkido was a combination between akido and the kicking dynamics of koreans. I totally was thinking sideways there. -

Hwarang Do was one of the fighting techniques developed at the time. There were two main ones, and actually they called the military group or watever, Hwarang. But yea, there was more than one umm..i'll try and find my notes tomorrow, i'm not remembering most of the stuff though lol. -

I noticed in our testing time the dojang i go to seems to concentrate more on sparring than the other three sister schools do. -
