GRAND OPENING AROUND THE CORNER.....
Hwa Rang Warrior replied to Bushido-Ruach's topic in Instructors and School Owners
My instructor contacted the Mayor of our town to say a few things. We also had a short demo and then we were available for giving information throughout the day. -
I was just wandering what kind of diet everyone kept when training extra hard for an event such as a tournament to get their best performance

For those of you who are studio owners, how did you go about looking for a location for your school. Did you look in the paper for available properties, drive around your desired location looking for for rent signs? I'm not exactly sure how to start this process.

I was always told NEVER wash your belt.

My wife and I got one for Xmas. I have to admit I like it a lot more than I thought I would. I've never been much of a nintendo fan since the original. And most of the games are to kidish for my taste. I still think the PS3 reigns supreme though. I had that for a couple of months before the Wii. The graphics are better hands down (can't beat the 1080p display) and although the game catalog is small right now the majority of the games that have been coming out look great and all the ps2 games are compatable with it as well. When I get time to sit down and play a game its usually after a rough week so I enjoy the time on my butt.

I too have had a few instructors do this. It was basically to train us to tighten our stomach muscles. Usually the instructor just walks across but on one occassion I had an instructor give me a sharp heel strike before stepping down and walking over.

How do you keep your endurance and strength up to par?? I used to work out in the mornings before I left for work but my new job doesn't all for that since i have to get up so much earlier. When I'm in class I push myself to get the best possible work out but I feel like I've lost a lot now that I'm not doing extra work outs outside of class now. Does any body have any suggestions?

Besides my dobok and sparring gear I have a towel in my bag to wipe me down after a sweaty class. There's nothing worse than trying to put clothes onto a sweaty body.

Try engaging your hips. Make sure what ever technique you're doing isn't being done with the limb by itself but rather with the whole body mainly the hips. If you hips are properly engaged then your drive will dramatically increase. and as bushido man said. pay attention to the instructor. He/she may catch some suddle thing you are forgeting in your technique.

I've used this drill several times. It's great for helping to increase reaction time.

I've been possed and interesting quesion by one of my students. They wanted to know what they should do if they have been subdued knocked unconcious and find themselves tied up in by their aggressor. I honestly have never thought past making sure I never get in this type of situation so I'm clueless . does any body out there ever thought about this senerio and have some suggestions? Also as a side question what would you do in the case of an attempted car jacking?
-
Basically the students take a stance while the instructor strikes them with force in different areas. He also broke what looked like a 2x2 over their stomach. Some of the other training was strength training that used more ancient methods such as lifting clay pots and spear handing through bundles of bamboo

So like many of you I've been following human weapon. I was intrigued by the iron body training in the karate episode. I've heard of it but never really saw any of the methods. I was wondering if any one here in the US does this at there school and if so to what extend. I partially have the feeling that this is something that has been lost as the martial arts was americanized but I'd really like to find an instructor that uses these traditional methods.

tang soo do
Hwa Rang Warrior replied to KNOCKuOUT's topic in TKD, TSD, Hapkido, and Korean Martial Arts
Tang Soo Do is a Korean martial art that like many of the korean arts is known for its kicks. It was created by Hwang Kee and is really an amalgum of many styles such as okinawan karate, shaolin boxing and shotokan and I'm sure there are other influences as it stands today. It's history gives links to the Hwang Rang, who were the aristocrats who brought the martial arts from main land china. Unfortunately due to japanese occupation many of the pure korean roots were never mixed in as the style was being developed. -
Testing for 3rd Dan rec
Hwa Rang Warrior replied to bushido_man96's topic in Share Your Testing, Grading, or Promotion
I'm sure you don't need it but good luck anyway. -
Doesn't seem like it to me. As long as you're not paying x amount of dollars to achieve each rank with little regard to the actual training required then you're fine. The way you describe it seems like you'll get a lot from the class. Also remember you get out what you put in.

Back to TSD!!!!!
Hwa Rang Warrior replied to karatekid1975's topic in TKD, TSD, Hapkido, and Korean Martial Arts
Thats Real cool , who's the instructor? -
The only equipment I plan on using are targets and mats. Since its for a short time I'm only going to offer uniforms for those who wish to persue rank and keep up with training. The syllabus is a good idea I'll definately try to put one of those together.

As my interest grows in sword play I've decided I need and want to find a place the will teach me hands on. Books and videos are great and all but as you all know an instructor is much better and my current art doesn't teach the sword all that extensively except for the 3 forms we have to learn(that were just added by the Assoc.) So with that being said does anybody know where I can go to learn to use a sword in the NEPA area preferably close to the Scranton area. I'm looking for Korean or japanese or even chinese sword play. I have several katana's already but I'm always willing to expand my collection so any excuse to get another sword is good with me. Hopefully someone has som good suggestions

I'm starting a new "club" at one of the local colleges. It's going to be a basic martial arts class provided by the college as an extra curricular activity. The college wants me to draw up a contract but I'm not sure how to word it since I've never done anything like this before. We've already negotiated a price and the duration of the program. I'm not sure what the contract should cover. Does any one have any suggestions???
