  1. The fact that I can do splits definately helps the height of my kicks but says nothing for my power. The higher they get the weaker they are. You have to build up the stabilizer muscles to get strong kicks that are high.
  2. We do flow drills for our self defense. We'll take one lock and change it into another and keep building and building so that the students learn to adapt as their opponent changes positions. It helps reduce what I call the "duh" reaction when grabbed
  3. TangSooGuy has very good advice. The only other thing I can add is that I the main problem I see students that have difficulty with this kicks is they don't rotate their head around fast enough. Their kick is coming out before they even see their target which results in an oddly contorted body. Tell them to get there head around first. The rest of the body will naturally follow.
  4. I've been training in Tang Soo Do for about 14 years and if I didn't have good instructors I wouldn't have stuck with it especially this long. The school definately depends on its instruction. I belong to a school in that is a member of World Tang Soo Do Association. Like many organizations its constantly changing and growing with time. My one complaint is the tournament sparring. The rules don't lend to good combatative fighting. I get a great work out with every class and with in the Association I can find some one that has some expertise in any question or supplemental training I'd like to do so therfore over all the art is great in my mind.
